I Cannot Place Any Pressure On My Back Tooth Without Causing It Pain, Is It Infected?

Thursday, June 20th, 2013
Q.

Hi Doctor Hughes. I wondered if you could help me with something? Well, a few weeks ago I had the gap between 2 back teeth bridged to prevent food from accumulating there. I was constantly flossing to remove food .I still cannot put any pressure on back tooth without pain. I was told I have infection & have been on antibiotics for almost 20 days now. Will the pain ever go away & do you think I could still have infection or do you think that something else is going on? Thank you for any help you can offer.

A Molar Tooth I Had Filled Has Become Very Painful, What Should I Do?

Wednesday, June 19th, 2013
Q.

Hi Doctor Hughes. A molar tooth that has a filling redone about 8 months ago has become extremely painful. There is a dull ache on this tooth and it also looks as if there is a small gap between tooth and gum. I suffer from constant twinges when eating hot and cold food too. What is likely to be the problem here? There is a tooth next to it that was removed last year and the one on the other side is bent inwards and that does have a small hole in it. I know that’s probably another problem in its self but what do you think? I would like a general idea before I decide to visit my dentist, will this cost a lot to fix up do you think? Thank you for your help.

What Can I Do To Prevent The Cavity On My Front Tooth From Getting Any Larger?

Monday, June 17th, 2013
Q.

Hi, I’m hoping you can help me with something please! I’m a 22 year old female and I have developed a cavity on my front right tooth that is now spreading to the other front tooth. It is quite deep now and is now turning very sensitive . What could I do to prevent cavities? I tend to drink a lot of tea with three sugars in, so I know that doesn’t help! Also, If i have these filled will the cavity continue to get bigger/worse? And will the filling I get match the surrounding tooth colour correctly? I don’t want it to look any different from the rest of my teeth. I hope you can help me on this. Thank you for your time.

My Tooth Was Almost Knocked Out Playing Hockey And After Treatment It Is Now Turning Black, Help?

Monday, March 11th, 2013
Q.

Hello Dr. 3 weeks ago I was playing hockey and my front left tooth was knocked back and almost out with a hockey stick. I was real worried at the time obviously however I was assured it was okay. The dentist put the tooth back in and then braced it to the teeth surrounding it. It has been 3 weeks since the incident and the tooth is now turning black. I was told to keep the brace on for 5 weeks. What are my options as the other front tooth has started to move forward. I do not want a black tooth as I am a business student and I want to have a decent smile as I previously had 3 years of braces. What should I do to have the best smile?

I Think I Want To Become A Dentist, Can You Give Me Some Advice?

Wednesday, March 6th, 2013
Q.

Hi Dr, I was wondering if I should become a dentist or not. There seem to be lots of different opinions on the career and I am getting confused because of the opinions I am getting from people. At the moment I am studying GCSE’s for my sixth form however I am really confused as a child I’ve always wanted to go in IT work but now I have a lot of family members telling me to go into dental work but to be honest I am not too sure if I should be come one or not. I say this as my Maths isn’t very good but my Science is pretty strong and I enjoy it a lot especially biology and I like the idea of surgery and fixing things. So really I think that I do want to become one but I am not to sure on what to do or even think about. You are one so I thought you would give good advice. Please help me I need to talk to someone that they know what they are talking about.

The roots of my incisors are crooked and cause pain, how likely are they to fall out?

Thursday, February 14th, 2013
Q.

Hello, I went to the orthodontist 2 weeks ago and he took x-rays of my teeth as my two front central incisors cause pain when biting an apple or when any force is applied to them when chewing etc. The x-ray showed that the roots on these teeth are curved as appose to pointed and they are half the length of the roots of my lateral incisors. I also have a 7mm overbite. He phoned me up and i have a choice whether to get braces or not. Apparently there is a risk of these teeth falling out if i get braces but i do not like the look of the as the two central incisors overlap. My parents tell me that it’s not obvious but i am extremely conscious of it. I would really appreciate any statistics of the chance of them falling out etc and a second opinion as i have no idea what the repercussions could be.

Thank you so much and i look forward to hearing back from you.

My teeth are healthy but crooked and misaligned, how can I fix this?

Thursday, February 14th, 2013
Q.

Hi,

I would like to know the best method and cheapest way to fix my teeth. My two front teeth are overlapping badly, and this is causing overcrowding in my mouth. My teeth are not straight , some are crooked on my top row of teeth because of this overcrowding. Some of my teeth are slightly eroded on the bottom row due to acid erosion. My teeth are not aligned so there is discomfort when I bite and I also have some discolouring. I do not want to damage my teeth as they are at present fairly healthy but I want my teeth to be straight and the damage sorted out/ covered up. I was wondering which is the best course of treatment? How long does it last, and finally what would be the total cost of the treatments?

Thanks

My Teeth Aren’t Straight. What Should I Do?

Tuesday, January 8th, 2013
Q.

Hi Dr Andrew Moore,  I hope I have come to the right place. My teeth are slightly not straight, not severely crooked but enough for it to be noticeable. It is mainly my front tooth thats out of line and its playing on my mind a lot and I am getting really self conscious about it I suppose. I don’t particularly like to go dentist often and try and avoid it as long as possible. I tend to not smile that much. What would you recommend doing for my teeth and would you also advise on the possible cost of such a treatment. Thank you very much,  any advice would really help if you could just email me back when possible, it would be much appreciated. I look forward to your response, Thank you
