I Have Recently Got Over Some Gum Problems. Would Bonding Help Me Fill The Gaps Left Behind?

Monday, February 17th, 2014
Q.

Hello Dr Moore, I’ve got an aesthetic problem due to periodontics. I’ve had a lot of gum treatment now I think it is starting to get better. I maintain a regular routine with my hygienist every 3 month for a good cleaning. My front teeth look longer than the other ones and there are gaps, my dentist’s advice to me is to put composite bonding resin to fill the gaps and file the longest one, but some dentists say that composite bonding is not really good and can affect the gums and when they file the tooth it can become more sensitive. What do you think?

I’ve Lost A Lot Of Bone From Gum Disease, But Now I Have It Under Control I’d Like To Know If Anything Can Be Done To Close The Gaps In My Smile?

Thursday, February 13th, 2014
Q.

Hello Dr Moore,

I was subject to bad periodontal disease caused by smoking. The bleeding went on for a long period of time before I had it seen to but by then it was far too late, the damage was done. I have the disease under control now through regular cleaning but I’ve lost a lot of bone apparently and gum recession of around point 4. The gaps are quite noticeable but my dentist keeps saying there is nothing that can be done. I’d like to know if it’s true and that nothing can be done? Thank you for your help and advice.

I Have A Cyst Which Needs To Be Removed. If It Causes A Gap, Will The NHS Pay To Have This Fixed?

Wednesday, February 12th, 2014
Q.

My NHS dentist noticed that a couple of my front teeth appeared to be coming loose and did an X-ray. He found something on the X-ray and referred me to hospital. The consultant at hospital thought it was a cyst and arranged for a biopsy. The results of the biopsy confirmed that it was a cyst – apparently the sort that has a one in three chance of coming back (it has drained a lot since the biopsy) so I have been referred somewhere else for an operation. I may lose a couple of teeth and/or need a plate in my jaw! If after all the surgery I am left with a gap in my front lower teeth will I have to pay to have something done myself with my dentist or would the NHS sort it out because it happened as the result of an operation. I am a bit unclear as to whether I will just be left with a gap! Thank you for any advice.

My Temporary Veneers Are Way Too Bulky For My Liking. Will The Permanent Ones Be Like This?

Thursday, February 6th, 2014
Q.

Hello Dr Moore, I just got 6 temporary veneers on my front teeth, (they all had gaps) they look so fake and bulky. They look like a denture to me or a mouth piece you wear for sports. I can barely talk and forget about eating. I feel like a horse and look like one as well. They make me have a lot of saliva and my teeth look big and plastic. Will my permanent teeth look like this, my front teeth feel like I’m buck toothed and I can’t talk very well. Is this normal? I have already gone back to the dentist after one day and they said I won’t have this issue with the permanent veneers, they said it’s because I have one piece on my front teeth, I just don’t know what to believe and I’m stressed out already. What should I do?

My 3rd Aligner Fitted My Teeth Poorly And I Can’t Help Thinking My Aligners Are Moving My Teeth Into The Wrong Positions. What Should I Do?

Thursday, January 23rd, 2014
Q.

I am on my last set of simpli5 aligners, when I had the 3rd aligner fitted I noticed it fitted my teeth very badly, I gradually noticed one of my front teeth started moving away from the brace, leaving a gap between the tooth and the brace, this gap remained in brace 4 and its still there in brace 5. My dentist has said if it doesn’t catch up and move forward, we will return to brace 3 then 4 then 5 again. How will the previous aligners fit if each brace has moved my teeth? I was also told at the consultation that I would have X-rays but I didn’t end up having any. He has also said I may need to purchase another set of aligners. I just can’t help thinking the aligners have got ahead of my teeth now they are in the wrong position altogether, surely when the dentist fitted each new set he would know if I was ready for the next aligner?

A Bit Of Tooth Came Out Whilst Eating And Now Food Debris Gets Trapped In The Hole. Will The Tooth Be Okay For A Couple Of Weeks?

Monday, December 23rd, 2013
Q.

A bit of my tooth came out whilst having something to eat, towards the back of my mouth but in between two teeth. The hole is right in the middle of the teeth and not on the outside/inside etc, it doesn’t hurt (YET) but I can’t get in the dentist until after the New Year, it looks quite dark and a lot of food is getting trapped inside which I have to keep flossing it out. Is this a sign of decaying, as I only visited my dentist in August this year, surely they should of spotted early signs of decay? I also had a crown fitted and they would of looked at my teeth on different occasions, I don’t know what to do? I don’t want to be unwell for Christmas but I have to wait until after New Year.

I Have An Impacted Tooth Which Hurts The Tooth Below It. Will Braces Fix This For Me?

Friday, December 13th, 2013
Q.

Hi there,
I have a tooth growing on top of another tooth (2nd premolar). I would like to know if I would need braces to fix this. I have been searching online and have seen that most people who share my problem with their teeth have needed and been given braces. They have said it was because of the growing tooth needing to grow down straight after the already present tooth was removed, so that none of the other teeth would move. I am not sure whether the growing tooth is growing in the right position, but it appears as though it is growing but sticking out of line from the rest of the teeth. I also cannot chew properly on that side (left) of my mouth, because of my tooth pushing against the one that is growing which hurts a lot. I also would like to know how the gaps in my teeth and my two bottom central twisted incisors could also be fixed (if possible), as other people always point them out to me which effects my confidence a lot.

Thanks a lot!

I Need To Fill A Gap As It Annoys Me, How Effective Is Dental Bonding At Filling Gaps?

Wednesday, December 11th, 2013
Q.

Hi Marcus, Could you possibly tell me how much dental bonding roughly costs for filling in a gap and shaping on the front teeth? I am curious as I have a gap between my front teeth it, isn’t too big but annoys me, also the bottom of my two front teeth are starting to wear away. Is there any real point in getting bonding done or is it just a waste of time and money, what are the benefits of this treatment? Thanks, I look forward to hearing from you.

I Have An Infection In My Gum And Need My Tooth Removed. What Would The General Cost Be?

Tuesday, November 26th, 2013
Q.

Hello Dr Shaffie. I have just lost an upper post crown which I have had for around 15 years or so, the tooth had been loose, and I couldn’t get an appointment with my dentist for a whole week, I have since had an infection in the gum resulting in the need for antibiotics. I have been told by my dentist that the remaining tooth {I think it’s the root} needs to be removed. What would the general cost be to have a tooth fitted on a plate? I am at the minute undecided whether or not to just leave the gap. Thank you, your answer would really help me out as I’m unsure what to do.
