Why are my composite fillings so sensitive?

Wednesday, September 26th, 2012
Q.

Hi,
Several months ago I had an amalgam filling replaced with a nice new composite one. I noticed that several weeks after the filling was replaced I began to get quite moderate sensitivity with that particular tooth, and was advised to massage the area with a toothpaste designed for sensitive teeth. This provided only minimal relief, so I stopped using it, as I thought it may actually be making thingss worse. I am interested in the enlighten tooth whitening system, however Im pretty scared that I may get some difficulties with that one particular tooth, and be in a lot of pain should I go ahead, What should I expect in terms of the sensitivity aspect of this system. Im really interested in going ahead with it, but not if Im likley to be in a lot of pain. Could you advise please.

Kind regards

I do not feel like I have been properly informed about my treatment, what should I do?

Thursday, December 15th, 2011
Q.

Recently i had a dental treatment and doctor offered me a further treatment of root canal and crown which is going to cost me £204. Two months ago same doctor checked my front tooth and done the filling on it which came off with in two months and i was told that they will redo the filling for me. Last night, i went to a same dentist for a filling and i mentioned him that my gums are bit swollen around that same tooth. He checked my tooth and done some Xrays and told me that there is same decay on the back of my teeth which is causing this swelling. He tried to remove the decay and drill it and after a while he told me that tooth is gone, its half broken. Then he showed me an xray and told me that tooth was there just becuase of big filling and no actual tooth was left. My complain is that; 1- Why didn’t he treat it properly two months ago when he done the filling. 2- Why didn’t he tell me about the consequences of my treatment. 3- Why did he try to clean the decay when he had already seen my xrays. Before starting a treatment i should have informed about that consequences. 4- During my all treatment i wasn’t informed about anything like what can be happend to my tooth in the future and i was not given any options for the treatment. 5- I have asked them for a second opinion but they said that i can’t have it becuase my treatment has already started but it hasn’t started yet. To me it feels like they want to do their job quickly without doing it properly. Just in hurry of completing all appointments in a day. As a patient it is my right to have a second opinion.

I am having extreme pain in a tooth that has just been cleaned, what should I do?

Monday, November 28th, 2011
Q.

I have extreme tooth pain after a pulpectomy/pulpotomy – I thought the pulp was cleaned out, why does my tooth still hurt so badly? It is a throbbing, aching pain, and the tooth is sensitive to to touch, biting etc., but the pain is still present without touching the tooth at all. I am waiting for a root canal to be completed, and have a temporary filling on the tooth. I had a cavity that was eating at the nerve in my tooth (which was broken in half). I had the pulpectomy/pulpotomy 4 days ago.

I am not happy with crown treatment from my private dentist, is there anything I can do?

Thursday, October 27th, 2011
Q.

I recently had a private crown fitted on one of my top front teeth. This cost me 450 pound. The dentist did not discuss with me the actual materials that would be used pior to the impession being made. I did make it clear that I did not want any darkness where the crown fitted into the gum. When the crown arrived, I was most unhappy as it was a different colour, more creamier than my other teeth, although the colour the dentist chose appeared to be correct. Also the crown was more rounded and not flat like my other teeth. But I did notice that the crown had a metal interior, which I have to be honest I did not expect. I was told many years ago by another dentist that a private crown is not made with the metal. So I am asking should a private crown be made of porcelain alone or are there occasions where the inside is still metal ?
I have had the crown fitted now but still am not totally happy wit it. It still looks creamier in certain lights. Is this because of the metal interior. Also it is wider than my other front tooth. I did ask my dentist to replace a tiny filling which was at the top of my tooth beside the crowned tooth but he drilled the whole tooth down and then the impression was taken for the crown which I believe has caused my tooth to be wider. Thie crowned tooth now feels jammed against the other front tooth and is sometimes causing some sensitivity. What do I do ?. Did I not have the correct quality of a private crown fitted ?

I have a pain in my tooth after having old metal filling replaced with a new white one.

Monday, September 19th, 2011
Q.

Hi I am running into a dental nightmare with a tooth and feeling i need some answers from someone i would trust that i am doing the right thing!
Not enough space on this box!
3 months pain and over 10 visit to dentist!
Long story short. Had old filling replaced with a white one, next day pain round the gum on eating not on bitting. went back Said food impation as the filling was made less proud for better care of the tooth and now the gum aggrivated. lots of mouth care flossing etc Progressed to filling been re shaped to previous style to stop some of the impaction, still no help to shooting pain when food hit the gum. Pain slowly got worse to traveling along my jaw and waking me up at night. Xray showed nothing. Given anitbiotics. then filling taken out and packed. Pain still in the jaw so he went for the root as could see no other possible cause! only to find 2 roots, left for a week and just had another look for Root number 3 which he cant find but now informs me i have a crack and now need a crown! But cant do a crown until he knows if i need to see a specialist for root number 3 and in the mean time i may crack my tooth and loose the whole thing!!! Is it important to find the last root or for some people is there never one???? Not sure if to pay to see specialist before my tooth splits or sit and wait for a few months as has been suggested!
My gut feeling is i had gum infection as it never has caused any pain in impaction or bitting hard and maybe antibiotics may have stopped it getting into the roots. Any addvice much appreciated!

How long should a CEREC replacement last?

Wednesday, September 14th, 2011
Q.

Hi there

Can you please advise with regard to cerec. 2 years ago I had 3 large fillings replaced with cerec (these were old fillings that were failing and in one case the tooth had cracked and broken), since then 2 have failed, one twice, they seem to simply just come loose and fall out. The first happened within a day of having it done, my dentist replaced it free of charge. The second happened about 14 months later, when I went to see my dentist he wanted to charge me to replace it, I had to do some serious negotiation to come to a reasonable figure (however I was still annoyed as I felt it should have simply be fixed at no cost to me). Now the first one that fell out and was replaced has failed again. I would be grateful of your advice with regard to how long cerec should last, why they are failing and falling out and lastly should I have to pay to have them replaced after only 2 years?

Many thanks

I have chipped the corner of my tooth, what is the most natural looking treatment for this?

Monday, September 12th, 2011
Q.

12 years ago I had an accident where I came off of my bike and chipped the corner off of my left front tooth. I had a cap placed onto the end to re-build the tooth, and for a while it looked like my natural tooth, but it has now discoloured and the line where my original tooth broke off is very visible. I am now looking into getting my tooth re-done, but don’t know what route to go down for a natural long-term finish (i.e. cap, crown, veneer or something else??), as I am already very self-conscious of my tooth.
Any suggestions would be grateful.
Thank you
