hi there dr butt, i am 16 years of age and i had my braces taken off about a year and half ago, the result afterwards was a huge improvement, although they have moved back to there original shape, i have always worn my retainers and still do simpily because i dont want my teeth to move anymore than they already have. i just don’t get why they have moved and i don’t know what to do in order to get them back to their old position so just wondered if you could advise me please? would the Nhs offer me another treatment? or would i have to pay? i have spoken to my parents about it and all they say is that my teeth are fine, they haven’t moved blah blah but i can see that they have and it’s worrying me cos i already had to wear braces all the way through school so i don’t want to wear them through college too! hope to hear from you soon.

Wednesday, July 10th, 2013hi i wondered if you could please advise me on something? i have had braces on in the past, and my teeth after were perfect, but since having a retainer which i lost on a holiday my teeth moved, and in the front two teeth a large gap has occurred, i went back to the orthodontist and they moulded a new retainer which cost me 60 pound, for a retainer of the moved teeth which i wasn’t happy about, is there anyway of fitting a new brace on free of charge, as the price of braces are too expensive due to fact of i am only 18 and still in college. This means that I can’t receive treatment free through the NHS doesn’t it? I don’t know what to do, the retainer just completely ruined the new movement of my perfectly straight teeth! Surely my orthodontist should do something about this?Thanks for any advice!

I have a bit of top gum showing when I smile that I don’t like giving me a gummy smile. I’ve always had this gummy sort of smile and I’m fed up with it now, it makes me feel self-conscious and I just want to get rid of it! Can you please give me an estimate on getting this done and would you be available to do it the first week of August? I contacted you in the past to get a quote for a full top layer of veneers to hide my gums but this procedure is much more suitable for me I don’t think. Look forward to hearing from you. I’m A Single Mum And Looking Into Receiving Braces, How Much Am I Likely To Pay For Them?
Monday, July 1st, 2013Hello, I was just wondering if you could please advise me with something? I was supposed to have braces as a teen but I opted not to as I didn’t want to get picked on for them. I wish I had toughed it out as now I’m too embarrassed to smile. All my canine teeth are way out of line, they look like a second row of teeth. My front teeth are crooked. I long for a straight smile so I can smile in photos with my children rather than hiding from the camera. Please can you tell me what the cheapest and quickest way of achieving this would be. I’m a single mum now so funds are scarce. Any advice would be great, such as general costs of braces and how long it will take for my teeth to become straight again etc. Thank you.

Friday, June 28th, 2013hello, i have pretty straight nice teeth with abit of an overbite and a small gap between my front two teeth. im not really fussed about my overbite but i was just wondering what sort of price i would be looking at to close up my gap. as i am only 20 years old and when i was younger i couldn’t get it through the NHS or the royal marines, i was also wondering if it could be paid monthly instead of a one off cheque? i understand that some private cosmetic practices do offer financial plans so am intrigued as to how they work and in what amounts. hope you can advise me. hank you.
Would Veneers Reduce The Appearance Of My Overbite?
Wednesday, June 26th, 2013 Hi there, I wondered if you could help me? I have a mild overjet ( I think about 3mm) and an overbite ( only a few mm of my lower teeth show when I bite down.) I think my overbite is partly down to my front teeth being relatively long.
I do believe that I have nice teeth otherwise. They are quite straight etc and I do take good care of them.
I would like to know if I could improve this with veneers/ crowns/ overlaying veneers over my teeth. I know it wouldn’t correct it completely. I would also like to widen my smile, which I know can be helped with veneers or is there anything else you can suggest that I can maybe have a little look into? Thank you for your advice in advance.

Friday, June 21st, 2013hi there dr butt wondering if you can help me, i’d love it if you could, i am 33 and i have been unhappy with my teeth since i was about 6. it has got to the point now where i am in a state of depression about it. my confidence is very low and im not eating as it’s too uncomfortable to do so. as a result of this i have now lost a lot of weight and dont know what to do. i would do anything to have a perfect smile. i dont even feel as though i actually know how to smile anymore. my teeth are crooked and are discoloured and i have an overbite. please help me before i get too down. i need to start having a life. thanks for your help on this matter. look forward to hearing from you soon.
I Have Been Told That I Am Unsuitable For Any Brace Treatment, Now What?
Thursday, June 20th, 2013Hi, Dr Butt. I wondered if you could please advise me on something? I have crooked teeth but I have been told that I am unsuitable for any kind of braces or aligner as my top jaw is too narrow so there is no room for my teeth to actually straighten out. I had teeth removed as a child to make room for the rest to straighten out but this never happened and so I have been told I would need surgery. I don’t like the idea of surgery so am considering either implants or dentures as a total replacement. Will this be possible and which is best for the long term? I am in my early 30’s so want a long term solution.And something that would be cost efficient too, is there any treatment I can receive via finance options or anything of the sort that you know of? As I doubt any of the treatment I need would be available through the NHS. Thanks!
There Was A Wire Attached To My Bottom Teeth After I Received Braces, What Is This?
Friday, June 14th, 2013Hi Doctor Butt, I wondered if you could please advise me on something? I had braces when I was a teenager to straighten my teeth. When it was removed, the dentist attached a wire to the inside of my bottom teeth, which has kept them in place. I am now 27 and this wire is still there. I have moved several times since I was younger and am not currently registered with a dentist or having regular checkups. I find it quite hard to brush my bottom teeth properly and I’m worried that it is causing damage. I have such self-confidence issues and don’t know how to go about getting myself sorted! Also I’m getting married next year, and want my teeth to be nice. Is there anything you can suggest? Thank you in advance for your advice.
