Q. Hi there, just came across your website, and as a young graduated VT, i am interested in furthering my skills and knowledge. one of the things i was looking at doing was clear step, and saw that you are a practicing practisioner. Is it really as effective and successful. if there is a choice between and inman aligner, clear step or invisalign what would you chose? i would be really grateful if you can answer these for me. best wishes
A. firstly this is purely my personal opinion gained from my personal dealings with all of the above .
the clear aligner systems such as clearstep and invisalign are similar in function but i prefer invisalign out of the two as my dealings with clearstep have been unprofessional on their part.
the inman aligner has a specific purpose mainly for anterior incisors and is effective . the lab involved with this system also provide their own clear aligner system for minor corrections
the inman and invisalign are good start points but forget clearstep

Q. I am 29 years Old. I have a gap teeth and the Right side has over grown more than the left side. I can!t Smile and it becoming a serious issue. I!m so depressed and need help.
A. it would seem that you should consider orthodontics or a smile makeover.
the easiest thing is to book a consultation with a cosmetic dentist you find convienient and run through possible solutions that fit your budget

Q. Dear Dr Butt I am a 32 year old female having been diagnosed with acute periodontal disease. I have already lost 5 teeth and Guys hospital have given a poor diagnosis. I have severe bone loss and a denture top right has been recommended for now. I was devestated when told but now having got used to the info, I realize the out come is poor. My treatment is being paid for by HC2 certificate. Can you tell me about implants and bone grafts and the cost. Any info would be greatly appreciated. I am in West London. I have everything going for me and this is a particularly grim time for me. Kind regards
A. hi,
this is quite complex as it depends on where the bone is deficient and how much is left .
the price can vary a great deal.
i can offer you a free consultation with an implantologist at one of our practices , or i can recommend avenue dental based in ealing who may be closer to you.

Q. Hi there. I have recently chipped one of my front teeth. I do not wish to get it filed down as my other front tooth is a crown, and this would only make the crown look bigger! Is it possible to have tooth bonding on this front tooth? It is a small thin chip, and only noticable up close. If so does this need to be done privately or can it be carried out on the NHS? thank you for your time
A. hi if this is purely cosmetic which it sounds like it will be a private treatment . if it is a tiny sliver bonding does not always work but is worth a go if it bothers you

Q. hi am 23 year old female, i have type 1 diabetes. i have recently noticed that i am getting a small gap in between my front two teeth, its only small but i am really self conscious am find myself looking at the mirror every hour or so. what would you recommend. thank you
A. it is common for diabetic patients to be unable to fight infection once they get it as well as a completely healthy individual.this is why there is usually a higher occurrance of gum disease . it is possible this applies to your case as a minor gum inflammation.
i would advise a good clean by a hygienist and allowing time for the gum to heal as it may only be a minor fluctuation in the tissue

Q. how old would you be when you get adult teeth?
A. adult teeth erupt in stages usually between the ages of 5-6 for the front teeth and the first molar and then in sucessive stages till the age of 12 approximately.

Q. i hv extremely sensetiv teeth i want to know if i can hv teeth whitened at dentist without using peroxide. and what is safe to use for whitening teeth on a low budget. thankyou
A. hi
any non peroxide systems will not bleach the teeth per se , but if you have a high amount of surface staining air abrasion is very effective but you will still experiance sensitivity during this procedure which takes around 20 minutes in chair and is cheaper than bleaching.

A. you need to isolate the pathology and if the tooth has already been root filled consider the place ment of an implant

I visit my dentist regularly for a clean and maintain my own daily regime, but can’t see any significant improvement. Is there a more effective treatment for this. I am 39 years of age. Thank you.

Q. I have had my lateral incisor removed 12m ago and my central incisor has a root fracture, which is slightly painful when i eat. i would like to know will my central incisor have to be removed and would an implant benefit me more than a bridge. my teeth either side are healthy. also if my central incisor is to be removed could i have my implant straight away. thanks
A. hi
if it has a root fracture then you will lose it.in the right condition you could have animplant placed at the site of the lateral incisor and bridge off it to give you back the central but you will still have to allow time for healing

Q. Hello, I have spoken to my dentist about getting cosmetic work done to my teeth, and he says I must come to him for a consultation first, so that he will be able to send me to the right dentist. I think I will need a brace on my front teeth, they are out of line, a little prominant and long and crowned some years ago. Is it right that I have to go to my dentist yet again (I saw him in January for an expensive check up), when nothing seems to have changed with my teeth? Many thanks
A. hi
either your dentist is able to do the work and he can quote you , if he cannot quote you based on the information he has you should discuss whether he is charging you for the consultation.
you are more than welcome to attend any of our practices for a free consult.
i do not understand why your dentist is talking about sending you to the appropriate dentist -this suggests he is unable to do the work.

Q. Dear doctor, I have tetracycline staining of my teeth for which I got veneers for the upper front 6 teeth (incisors & canines ect.) 4 years ago. My teeth are also big and crowded. Now its time to change the veneers as they are getting yellow. I have been told that the only way to improve my smile is crowns (not veneers)and I feel it is a bit of a drastic step to get rid of 6 normal functioning teeth and get crowns instead. What is your opinion regarding this? I am sorry to ask a difficult question especially when you have not seen my teeth. Thanks!
A. hi
like you say it is difficult to say as usually veneers do not stain that quick
there may be the option of a 3/4 coverage porcelain restoration but without examinatin i cannot confirm

Q. Hi, Ive recently been to the dentist and have always had good teeth with no pain or alignment issues. But during my last visit my dentist said that my bottom row of teeth is making contact with the inside of my top row of teeth at the front. There has been some minor wear and my dentist says over time it will get to the point where the top teeth could break. Is there any treatment that is available for me and is it at all likely that my teeth could break over time? Thank you
A. hi
at this early stage a splint to wear at night if you are grinding your teeth , or a more drastic step of building the teeth back up with white filling to restore the bite but this is not always easy
