How can I prevent bad breath?

Thursday, March 18th, 2010
Q. I am suffuring from mouth smell and bad breeth plz anser me how can i get good breath,
A. hi make sure you are brushing twice aday as well as using a tongue scraper on your tongue, also make sure you are flossing and any untreated cavities within your mouth ar erepaired as these often trap bacteria. it is also advisable if you have not attended a dentist in a while to have the teeth cleaned

What would it cost to cosmetically fill tooth gaps?

Thursday, March 18th, 2010
Q. Hello, I have narrow teeth, which makes my smile very gappy I have been told by a dentist, that I need to have my teeth cosmetically filled in, could you please tell me the average cost per tooth. Many thanks,
A. hi it really all depends on how much you want the end result to be towards perfection. firstly your cost will be determined by whether you want a composite material or a porcelain. porcelain is better looking and wearing.it also depends if you are having composite bonding or veneers. composite bonding can cost upto 150 per tooth ,whereas veneers can cost betwwen 475 -600 per tooth. if you want an idea of how things will look before anything is attempted you may want a cosmetic wax up which will cost about 30- 50 per tooth

Is there any treatment for a fractured veneer?

Thursday, March 18th, 2010
Q. Hi, I had a veneer on my front tooth, and it fractured, and instead of having a new one replaced, my dentist put composite filling on my tooth, if i wanted the filling removed can it be done so that i can just have my natural tooth? Laura,
A. hi laura, your tooth will have been prepared (drilled) for the veneer so removing it will leave a sensitive surface prone to decay. in theory you can have whats left of the veneer removed and the whole thing replaced. trying to have the veneer which is usually porcelain replaced with composite is an inferior solution and not advised

Is there anyway I can get treatment for baby tooth done on NHS?

Friday, March 12th, 2010
Q. Hello, I’m 35, my upper left 1st molar is a baby tooth that is just about still hanging in. The 2nd tooth is still in my jaw and sitting in the root centre of the adjacent tooth! I’ve been advised a scan to see exactly where it is, before they decide whether the 2nd tooth needs to be removed or an implant can be safely fitted, once my baby tooth falls out. All v.expensive!! I have many bouts of sinusitis on the left side also. Is there any chance that I could get treatment paid for on the NHS? Many thanks,
A. unfortunately you are not eligibe for nhs treatment where this is concerned .

Is there a thinner material than that used for NHS upper plates?

Friday, March 12th, 2010
Q. is there anything other than the heavy product used in nhs upper plate that is not as heavy and comes thinner like a wafer thin material that is sturdy?,
A. hi unfortunately other materials that are thinner and more expensive are not available as a nhs option as the heavier/thicker product will suffice to secure and maintain your health, and your personal wishes are not good enough reasons to do this treatment on the nhs

Are braces the cause of grey damaged tooth?

Monday, March 1st, 2010
Q. My teen daughter just got her braces off and few days later front tooth turned grey with soom pain her gum was drak grey with pain. Can getting her braces off damge her tooth???,
A. hi it is possible that teeth can have the nerve inside die off during orthodontics although this happens rarely. you need an x ray and likely need a root canal on the tooth.

I am happy with results of braces but what can I do?

Tuesday, February 23rd, 2010
Q. hope all is well. i am 21 and approaching the end of my orthodontic treatment. i got my braces in a few months before my 18th birthday. i always had straight teeth and never really felt i need braces, until my dentist told me i would need them due to me having an overbite. i was told i would need to extract 2 teeth from my upper and that the gaps will close with the treatment thus reducing my overbite. (my overbite before treatment was 7mm and now it is 3mm.) now near the end of my treatment, i am not happy with the results at all. firstly, i feel my teeth are much worse of than what they used to be. i also feel that my facial structure and features have also changed. i dont like my new smile and feel my teeth have moved too far back. my lips are much bigger and my profile isnt as good as it used to be. i feel very low and depressed and have lost my confidence. i use to be very happy and full of confidence, always a smile on my face. now doctor, i dont know what to do. does orthodontic treatment really change the shape of your face and your features? (well with the treatment ive had done anyway). and if i wanted to remove the braces and allow my teeth to go back to their normal position, will my features go back to what they used to be and my teeth go back to where they were without any problems? ive spoken to my orthodontist and he’s told me that treatment does not not change any facial features and only surgery can do that. unfortunately, i dont believe him. ive also looked alot on the internet but people seem to give different answers. it would be much appreciated if you could help me and answer the above questions and give me some advice. thank you for your time doctor and look forward to hearing from you soon. kind regards,
A. hi, this is obviously affecting you a great deal and the reason you are not getting a straight answer is because the treatment provided is not clear and thus its affects cannot be determined. i would advise seeing another orthodontist and seeking a second opinion. regards safeer

Can you advise me on teeth loss due to periodontal disease?

Wednesday, February 17th, 2010
Q. I suffer from periodontal disease and have already last 2 teeth. I have bone loss as a result of the disease. My periodontist tells me that I could not have implants as I have lost too much bone and I worry that I have had too much bone loss for dentures to be a possible option. My periodontist tells me that they do not work very well for people with periodontal disease. Unfortunately this was not explained to me 20 years ago when I started treatment or I could have made the decision to have the effected teeth extracted then. My front teeth do not seem to be too badly effected, it is mainly my molars one of which is quite mobile. Can you offer me any advice, I am 52 and I feel that my face is aging prematurely because of this problem and I worry about being without teeth at what, these days, is a relatively young age.,
A. hi you should consider saving/preventive measures to keep what bone you have consider the perioprotect system.also enquire about bone augmentation procedures as even if you can get a few implants in this can help to secure a denture.

Thursday, February 11th, 2010
Q. Hi, my name is Ruksana and i had my 2 top front teeth veneers put in over 20 years ago when i was 15yrs old on the NHS , as time has gone by they hav been chipped, discoloured and may need replacing, when i approached my dentist about it , she turned round and said its cosmetic therefore i would have to pay for them, it would therefore cost me £500, is there anyway i could have it done on the NHS??,
A. hi ruksana, sadly no this qualifies as a cosmetic treatment unless the veneer was markedly damaged or had decay then it is possible to have it done on the nhs
