Q. Dear Sir, I am a 38yr old male with a big issue wit cavities. It’s been suggested that I remove all of my top front teet and replaced with dentures. My question is; Are there better alternatives to repairing teet with having to wear dentures?,
A. Hi Your only other alternative is
dental implants but this is not a cheap option, but very robust.

Q. i have some enamel damage to my front top teeth (the 2 middle ones and 2 either side) i have an extreme phobia of having anything done (my dentist has said they are ok for the moment but some of them have slightly changed damage from the erosion) i have one buckle filling on one of them. i would like to know roughly how much it would cost if i paid to have a general anathestic say if these teeth had to come out. i can get to the dentist but its staying in the chair as ive had a lot of bad experiences in the past (not including my present dentist) i feel as though i have developed a phobia of my teeth as i am constantly feeling and checking them convinced there is a problem. do you have any advice on what i can do to help with preventing any further erosion thanks,
A. Hi sorry I cannot help as I have no experience with general anaesthesia . I would suggest asking your presentndentist for a hospital referral

Q. i have a large gap in my two front teeth which has developed over the past ten years and when i was younger i fell and damaged one of them which has resulted in them not being straight any more what would you advise me to do ?,
A. i would advise seeing your dentist and getting an explanation on possible reasons for the deterioration and treatment options. causes could be
gum disease or tooth movement due to muscles of the mouth or
wisdom teeth etc. treatments may be orthodontics, splinting, gum treatment etc

Q. Hi Doctor. Last Nov 2010 my front upper 4 tooths has been crowned with resin/plastic. As i noticed initial 6 months there is no color change but for last three month its started changing its color to off-white & now turning to bad yellowish. Its looks so horrible. 1. Now advise me, is there any procedure to clean & back to normal color or i have to again go for a new crown. 2. Also Plz suggest the name of best crown & which will not change its color & run long life. I would appreciate if u answer in detail. Thanks,
A. Hi The resin plastic is always a cheap option and is generally used as a temporary crown, as well as prone to leakage and colour uptake from your diet. Any decent crown such a metal reinforced porcelain crown or a metal free durable crown will be more durable and resistant to colour uptake

Q. Why do people’s crowns fall off even a short time after they were put on?,
A. Crowns are only as strong as the tooth underneath.if the tooth stump underneath is very short then the crown has less to glue onto and so is prone to coming off. The common situation this occurs in is when a tooth has continuous fillings where the pt is trying to avoid having the crown and there is less and less tooth available when a crown is tried. Lastly the crown should always be glued properly

Q. hi, i am considering a career in dentistry but have a few reservations about sticking my hands in people’s mouth. did you ever feel the same way or did you know anyone who has felt similarly. if so, how was this overcome? i think i do want to be a dentist, i would be helping others and i think i would enjoy the job abd lifestyle. is ‘going in people’s mouths’ something you just get used to, or is it just irrelevant because you mostly just use the dental tools rather than go in the mouth. also, does the job ever get boring? i realise there are a variety of treatments but over time, do these become repetitive and boring. what is the most common treatment, standard check-ups, fillings etc.?? and which age group makes up the bulk of your patients. is it mostly the elderly, kids or young/old adults. please help, thanks. salam,
A. asa i would advise you do some work experience before committing as you cant get around the fact you will have to work in some pretty unpleasant mouthes. as to what the job involves depends on what you have studied postgraduate wise and what you enjoy doing within the field as inevitably you will educate your patients accordingly and they will choose treatments in accordance

Q. I went to the dentist days ago. He did an exam and said that I had a little cavity in one of my silver fillings. He said “lets take care of the cavity, and we’ll also replace the filling with porcelin. I said ok. It’s been three days and my tooth is very sensitive to hot and cold and sometime just aches. How long can I expect this to go on for? It wasn’t even bothering me when I went for the exam, now I have problems. I’m sorry I let him do anything. I should have waited until it started to hurt….if it aint broke dont fix it. Can you tell me if it should still be hurting.,
A. if there was a cavity you would have been foolish to leave it as it would have started to hurt later but would have been a deeper and bigger filling. with regards to the sensitivity you need to know if the porcelain restoration has been placed or you have a temporary whilst it is being made. cerec porcelain restorations can be made the same day. the other question is whether you were given the choice of any other material as if the restoration is small then composite which is a white but cheaper material would be just as viable. if the restoration is deep then you can experiance some sensitivity which should settle. if you are in a temporary then some sensitivity is normal but if you are in a lot of pain then return to your dentist as in some cases the nerve within the tooth can die off and lead to infection

Q. My top two middle teeth have a darker colour from half way to the bottom. They have always been like this. If I had
tooth whitening on my teeth, would these teeth end up being the same colour as the rest ?,
A. hi if they are darker due to the natural colour whitening will improve this but a slight contrast may still remain.prolonged bleaching may well even it out completely

Q. hi.i had a dental cleaning two weeks ago,day after i had my dental cleaning ,my friends were asking me what i have done to my teeth.one of my front teeth is chipped about one millimeter and about 5,6 other teeth have smaller chip.how can dental cleaning damage tooth and is there any way to fix this please.,
A. hi it is extremely unlikely that dental cleaning will damage your tooth. the likely cause of what you are describing is thin enamel at the tip of the teeth due to wear this can be easily fixed with dental bonding

Q. My son had an accident when he was 16 months old. He forced his new tooth up into the gum which had to be removed surgically. He is now 12 and his adult tooth has emerged with a brown smudge along the lengthe of the tooth. He would like a veneer – would this be the best option? However, as he is still growing would this cause a problem? Also, he is a very keen rugby player would it be worth doing whilst he is playing so much rugby. Or, could the stain be “bleached”? He is very self conscious of his tooth, especially as he is getting interested in girls.,
A. hi it is likely the intruded tooth caused trauma to the adult tooth whilst it was developing. it is unlikely that bleaching will help. if minor composite bonding may help . otherwise a veneer but due to his age this will have to be replaced once he is done growing. also a mouthguard custom made to protect the teeth for sports is advisable

Q. My son has had braces for 2 years and phase 1 has been completed (teeth have been pulled and there are no more crooked teeth). My husband and I cannot afford phase 2, which consists of correcting his slight overbite. We have opted to have his braces removed at the end of this month. Will this be detrimental to his health?,
A. hi ultimately this depends on how bad the overbite is and if there is the significant chance that as he gets older and has toothwear if the bite will lead to trauma to the tissues. many people have an increased overbite with no issues ,myself one of them

dental implants fitted instead?? thnks,
A. hi if all the veneer options have been explored, then your only other option is to consider orthodontics or implants but i cannot tel if this is suitable witout an examination
