I have braces but I don’t think they are working, can I get Dental Implants?

Tuesday, February 22nd, 2011
Q.

Dear Dr Rob,

I am an 18 years old girl, and i have been wearing braces for about 18 months now. I feel like the gaps between my teeth are not closing, would you advise me to do an implant on my top front teeth to close the gaps and have a better smile.

I have been recommended treatment that would leave me with no back teeth, second opinion?

Tuesday, February 22nd, 2011
Q.

In my upper teeth, I have a noticeable gap between my two front teeth, and I am missing both lateral incisors. I also have a twisted canine on my left side.
At the moment I have an option of having a brace on the NHS. However, I have been told by my dentist that I have no wisdom teeth coming through or 2nd molars. Also, I still have both 2nd molar baby teeth, with no premolars to come through.
I have been told by the dentist, if I have a brace they will remove my baby teeth, leaving me with more gaps. They will then move my teeth forward closing all the gaps, but leaving me with no teeth towards the back of my mouth where you chew. They won’t do anything else as it is classed as cosmetic surgery.
Can you advise me on what to do? If I was to go to a private practice, do you have any idea what they would do?

Can I keep my crowns when I have the rest of my teeth fixed?

Monday, February 21st, 2011
Q.

Dear Dr Tennet,
I would like to improve my smile. I currently have 2 crowns (2 front teeth) which I had after a see-saw accident which were recently changed in Sweden (June 2009). They look great and I would like to keep them. The teeth either side of them I would like to be improved. My dentist in Sweden will not do this as it is for cosmetic purposes therefore I will need to go elsewhere. Will the new practice need to change the front 2 teeth or do you think it will be possible to leave them as I find it to be uneccessary due to cost and that I love the look of them already?
My second question is I have the option to have these improvements in either London or Portugal – from a cost / technology / qualified point of view which do you think would be the best option for me?
I appreciate you help with my questions very much.
Kindest Regards,

Is it wise to get lumineers fitted on top and bottom teeth – any alternatives?

Friday, February 18th, 2011
Q.

Hi there

I am considering having a smile makeover using lumineers; I will have 8 upper lumineers fitted and lower whitening for an excellent price.

What are your thoughts on lumineers? Do you know if the hospital group is a reputable company?

Thank you
Kind regards

My adult teeth are not growing through and I need surgery, what will happen?

Thursday, February 17th, 2011
Q.

Hi, im 14years old and went to the orthodontist today. They told me I have 7teeth missing in my mouth which have NEVER grown in! I also have a gap inbetween my two front teeth. i want braces but they said because i still have 7 baby teeth also that when they fall out there will be no teeth to grow in because on the X-RAY it showed that, so the gap would be to big to close! please help! theve told me im due to go to a hospital in 8weeks, but thats so far and what are they going to do?! PLEASE HELP!

so basically once my baby teeth have fallen out, there will be no adult teeth to grow in leaving me with too big of gaps to be closed with braces. please help!

What treatment is needed to fix a chipped tooth?

Thursday, February 17th, 2011
Q.

My friend has chipped her front tooth and is an extremely nervous patient. She previosuly had a filling there but it has fallen out, she has been left with a 3rd of her tooth (broken tooth) can you advise what she wil need to get done? She is worried she will need to have it removed etc, do you think the dentist could fill it or put a bridge in?

Many thanks

Can I have a new bridge to cover 5 missing teeth in total?

Thursday, February 17th, 2011
Q.

Hi
i have been getting a lot of pain in the root area of my front upper bridge, my dentist informs me that i may have an abscess in one of the supporting teeth of the bridge. The tooth next to it is not very substantial and so i would have to have a bridge covering 5 teeth in total, centered on the two front teeth. Is this possible and what cost should i expect.

I am not pleased with my porcelain crown, what should I do?

Wednesday, February 16th, 2011
Q.

I had a porcelain crown fitted last week to lower left 6. It required quite some filing to fit securley. This has caused a 1mm hole whereby the underlying metal filling is showing. Aesthetically this is not pleasing. I spoke to the dentist who is happy to replace with a precious metal as in thier view there is not enough tooth to sustain fitting a porcelain without having to re-file. I wonder if I am simply being fobbed off?
