My NHS Dentist Has Recommended Gold Crowns, What Are The Alternatives Available To Me?

Friday, August 9th, 2013
Q.

Hi I’m writing in because I am 52 and have always grinded my teeth a bit so consequently my teeth have worn down and now I have difficulty chewing without it hurting. I have also told that I also need root canal treatment on one tooth. Unfortunately the NHS have only offered me gold teeth fillings as an option but I really do not want to end up with a mouth full of gold, I just don’t think it will look very nice.I think they’ve offered gold because it’s a strong material isn’t it? And it’ll be suitable for what I need as my teeth have become rather week from the grinding over the years.Would implants be an option for this sort of complaint? I think it’s probably just 4 teeth that actually need fixing? Thanks for your time any help will be great.

My Dentist Has Recommended Air Flow, What Is This? And How Will It Improve My Veneers?

Monday, August 5th, 2013
Q.

Hi, I wondered if you could help me with an issue? I am sixty years old and have had my front teeth done with veneers which are old now. Now I’m going off the colour of them. But having recently been made redundant I can’t afford to have them replaced .I visited my Nhs dentist today and he recommended something called Air flow. Im not sure what that is. Would that help or shall I have them removed altogether? .I really don’t know what to do .As we have moved to Devon now as my old dentist who did them is in Hampshire so I can’t go back there .And I’m now really ashamed of my teeth so I hide them a lot. Can you please advise me on the matter. I don’t know who to turn to. Thank you in advance.

How Can I Have Teeth Like Marilyn Monroe?

Monday, August 5th, 2013
Q.

Hi I am desperate to have veneers but cannot afford porcelain , would composite ones be the next best thing or should i go for the snap on smile ? I really need to get my teeth sorted as I have been asked if I want to be a Marilyn Monroe look a like ! Having my teeth done would make all the difference . What do you charge for composite veneers ? I would need 6 veneers for the top teeth only and the gum line on one tooth trimming . Could you give me an estimate of cost please ? I also need them brightening up a little Thanks, any information you can give me will be extremely helpful. I want to know how much it is all likely to cost before I book a consultation. Thank you again!

My Dental Implants Have Failed After 4 Years, What Should I Do Now?

Friday, July 26th, 2013
Q.

Hi Dr Patel. I had dental implants placed around four years ago in the Upper left jaw. The back implant I have been told has now failed as the bone has unfortunately shattered around it.

When the implant was fitted I was told did not have enough bone density but the implant seemed to just merge after about six weeks.

I now need to have the three tooth dental implant bridge removed because of its instability within the gums.
Once removed and healed would it be possible to rebuild the bone with a graft? Then replace with another inplant in its place? Or would you say that it’s too long-winded? I’m not really sure what I want to do now, seems a  bit too much trouble to be worth it if you ask me! Kind regards,

How Would I Deal With My Pointed, Misaligned Teeth?

Thursday, July 25th, 2013
Q.

Hello Dr. Please please help me. My teeth have been stealing my confidence since i was a kid. My 2 upper cuspid are so pointed. Like a fang. And the left cuspid was not in proper place. my 2 lower cuspid are pointed but not that much. My teeth are stained due to coffee and im so tired of using whitening products. I want to have braces so my left upper cuspid will be pushed back. But i realize it wont solve the problem with my pointed and stained teeth. It wont vanish. Still like a vampire. I read that veneers can fix this. My 4 upper teeth in front are also not in good shape. The two in front are big. The tooth beside my left cuspid on the right is so small. Im planning to have my teeth bleach before getting veneers for my upper teeth only as ive read here but my dentist suggested to have my teeth in veneers up and down front only because if the bleached teeth will get stained again it will leave the veneers teeth white only and the rest yellow. I dont want to get veneer teeth in yellow color. But its so expensive, up and down veneer front only. What should i do? With my pointed and misaligned cuspid and stained teeth. Im willing to pay but up and down veneers are so costly and im in a really tight budget. Im so desperate to fix this problem to finally gain confidence. Please please help me. Thank you so much!

Can You Help Me With My 6th Form Project?

Wednesday, July 24th, 2013
Q.

Hello!

I am a sixth-form student and am currently studying for my A-levels. I’m hoping that one day I can become a cosmetic dentist like yourself! I was just wondering if it would it be possible for me to email you a list of questions for my Extended Project Qualification on Cosmetic Surgery as part of an email interview?

Here are some examples of the questions: 1. What inspired you to specialise in cosmetic dentistry? 2. Did you experience cases of low self-esteem from patients? 3. Have any patients ever expressed a loss of self-identity or self-perception post-surgery? 4. How would you measure self-identity? If you would rather I contacted you and asked them over the phone or through your personal e-mail then please let me know. Many thanks in advance.

Can I get cheap and fast orthodontic treatment?

Monday, July 22nd, 2013
Q.

Hello Dr Patel,

I am 19 years old and a full time student, I had braces when I was 16 for 16 months. After my treatment I had removable retainers which I had to put on for 6 months and then asked to wear every night after that. However, my bottom teeth started to move slightly and now 3 years on my front teeth have come forward a lot more and my wisdom teeth are soon to be visible. So basically I was just wondering if I could have some sort of inexpensive treatment (since I would have to pay now) where my teeth are very straight and afterwards have a fixed retainer which would keep my teeth straight always? Any suggestions? I am lacking confidence because every time I try to smile or look in the mirror or even bite together since I can feel my upper and lower teeth touch each other.

Is It Really Necessary For Me To Have My Teeth Removed?

Thursday, June 27th, 2013
Q.

I’d like to improve the appearance of my 4 upper front teeth (molars) . One of the side ones has recently been crowned ; its alignment with the other teeth could be improved upon, but one of the centre molars is protruding, therefore it’s quite difficult. The remaining 3 upper front molars are covered in veneers which have to be replaced often due to discolouration of the white fillings. The dentist did suggest that I could crown the remaining 3 front molars. I am unsure whether I want my natural teeth removed despite ongoing discolouration of white fillings/veneers. What are the options ; my teeth are quite grey in colour : A3 I think was the colour of the recent crown.

My Crown Regularly Falls Off, What Kind Of Treatment Can Replace This?

Thursday, June 27th, 2013
Q.

Hi, I wondered if you could please advise me with something? My two front teeth have two crows on them one of the crowns regularly comes off and I have to go and get it glued back on from the dentist. My dentist has advised me that the post to which it is attached is too short and hence why it keeps coming off and loosening. He has recommended I have an implant put in however this is a costly process and one which I can not afford too easily at the moment, obviously I don’t want to be toothless. Are there any alternative treatments that I would be able to go ahead with in this situation? I wouldn’t mind another implant, as I said I’m slightly worried about the cost of it all.Thank you for your help in advance.
