Can you recommend places in Asia for Smile Makeover treatment?

Wednesday, February 2nd, 2011
Q.

I am have gaps, chips and discolouring of my teeth and I want to get a “smile makeover”. I have undertaken extensive research, set a budget of £3k to £5k and have earmarked a couple of practices in London where I reside.

However, I have recently located from London to Hong Kong for six months for work. I note that the price of cosmetic surgery in countries such as Thailand and Philippines are significantly cheaper than in the UK (e.g. Veneers more like £250 rather than £800). I’m now debating on getting the treatment in Asia as it would allow me to get more work done rather than five or six teeth treated.

I do have a couple of concerns:

– how do I know if it is a well regarded dentist (there are a couple on your website- do you recommend them?);
– how can I guarantee that the dentist will not be using cheaper materials that will not last as long; and
– I understand that cosmetic dentistry can be problematic, even with a good dentist. Is it possible to get insurance in case I encounter problems back in the UK and need to spend further money with UK dentist.

Advice would be greatly appreciated.

Best,

After my braces were removed there was still a gap, what can be done to close this?

Tuesday, January 25th, 2011
Q.

Dear Dr. Riten
I choose you cause you have a great smile! A dentist with a great smile its a must!
When i was 20 years old, i had a incluse canine on the palate and the 1st “milk”canine didnt fell. Unfortunatly at that time they decided to take it off instead of tracking him to the place. So i dont have my upper left canine. I made a profile with the ortondontist years later cause it could fall eventualy..so we decided to use the braces, take the “milk canine” and a pre molar on the upper right side and arrange all teeths…after 2 and a half years, it turned nicely…EXCEPT…i moved to italy, and i finished the last year with braces here….they places my “pre molar” as a canine, but it doesnt has the exact size… there was a stage where it was but now i only have the splint do to maintainance after you take the braces off…and i have a gap !!! 🙁 i went to the dentist yeasterday and he said it CANT Be done to close that gap…!!! i saw so many videos online on cosmetic dentistry, i think maybe he is not an expert??? Should i put braces again? look another dentist who can use composite to close this gap? i want to smile again….
thank you! Best regards!

I am worried my new veneer will break or fall out, what should I do?

Tuesday, January 25th, 2011
Q.

I have white fillings in the front of my teeth. However I choose to I have a one porcelain veneer put on one of my front side teeth. I went to a respectable clinic in central London. My tooth had a filling in it from previous years due to decay and was crooked. Everyone around me told me there was nothing wrong with my smile, but I went ahead and got it done. Although it looks better, I have now worked myself up into such state because I feel I didn’t need the veneer, I could have just got a white filling. I miss my oId tooth. I feel that I have put myself in a position were for the rest of my life I have to watch what i eat, have dental work done and have damaged the structure of my tooth. After I got the veneer I started reading from the internet how veneers fall off, root canals and needing crown/permanent implants after the veneer because the tooth was sanded down to thin and they could not replace it with another veneer. This made me cry. I constantly feel so depressed. I am scared that my veneer will fall out/break, and have stopped eating full meals as I have lost my appetite. This has made me lose a noticeable amount of weight.

I am considering a smile makeover but my main aim is to make my teeth look bigger. Can you recommend treatment?

Monday, October 25th, 2010
Q.
Hi Dr, I’m considering a ‘smile makeover’. My problem is that my teeth are quite small. There are no gaps or noticeable deficiencies (structure etc is fine) but very small dents and prominent fangs. Is there a way of making the teeth look bigger and would it be better to get full lumineers or a smile makover which included bonding, whitening and reshaping? Many thanks.,
