Do All Dentists Offer Lingual Braces And Is There Any I Can Get Through The NHS?

Wednesday, February 5th, 2014
Q.

Hi ya there, I’m 25 and I was wondering that because I’m on employment allowance support and I need a brace really bad, whether could I get it for free? I really don’t want a standard brace but if I can’t get another type of brace I would. I don’t know whether my dentist would do all kinds of different braces like Invisalign and also would the NHS help me with this? If you could be so kind and reply back to me you would really help me. Many thanks, I hope you can help me with advice.

My Overbite Is Causing My Jaw To Ache But I Can’t Afford Braces To Correct It. Is There Any Thing Else I Can Do?

Wednesday, February 5th, 2014
Q.

Hi Dr Moore. I’m looking for some advice. I’ve recently visited my local dentist because I had pain in my front teeth and my jaw aches often. The dentist said its because I have an “overbite”. Whenever my bottom teeth touch my front it causes pain. The roof of my mouth has also started being very tender when I touch it with my tongue. She said the only way to sort it out is to have braces; that will cost 1900+. I can’t afford this as I’m on benefits. What else could I do? Thank you for your time, I look forward to hearing from you.

I Would Like To Have My Veneers Removed Before I Have The Six Month Smiles Treatment. Will This Be Possible?

Thursday, January 30th, 2014
Q.

Hi there Mark,
I have had two veneers (on the teeth either side of my front teeth) for almost 15 years. They are not porcelain but are very old, stained and I have not been happy with them for a very long time. I am seriously thinking of the six month smile programme. I have my first consultation with my dentist next week. I am suddenly concerned though, would the dentist be happy to take these veneers off? My teeth were not changed in any way underneath to fit the veneers. I would just love to have them removed so that my own teeth could fitted with the brace. Is this possible?

Will My Braces Need To Be Removed Prior To My Surgery?

Thursday, January 30th, 2014
Q.

Hi, Andrew, I’ve just had the Damon braces fitted and I am due to have an operation soon which I’m being put to sleep for and staying in hospital for one night. My question is, will the hospital still do my operation with the braces on? If not, will my orthodontist remove them prior to having the operation then put them back on after it? I’m really worried about this and would be grateful if you could help me as I hope I can still have the operation and not have to wait until I have finished my full treatment with the braces as I could have them on a year or more. Thank you.

I Have Confidence Issues As I Have An Underbite And A Small Jaw. Could I Get This Sorted Through The NHS?

Thursday, January 30th, 2014
Q.

Hi, I am 21 years old and have an under-bite and also a small top jaw. I got told I could have it on the NHS but my parents were too worried about the potential side effects of having it done so they paid for my to have an upper brace to sort out my top teeth. However, my confidence is still very low and now wish I had had it done. I emailed my old orthodontists to enquire whether I can have this procedure now. They said I couldn’t have it done any more as I am over 18 but I recall my orthodontist saying I still could due to how bad my jaw(s) are. So now I am very confused, please help!

A Plastic Surgeon Told Me My Teeth Are Affecting My Profile. Is There Any Treatment I Can Have To Fix This?

Monday, January 27th, 2014
Q.

Hello Dr Moore, I hope you can help me with my problem. I have a small mouth. My two front teeth squash inwards a bit. My top teeth overlap right over my bottom teeth when closed. I think that both of these things together make my profile very severely inverted at the mouth. It also makes my nose and chin appear larger than they are. A plastic surgeon explained that there is no problem with my nose and chin but it is my teeth that is causing the imbalance.   Is this something that can be done to make my profile better?

Many thanks, I look forward to reading your reply.

My Canine Has Erupted Over The Top Of My Other Teeth. Would I Be Eligible For Braces Through The NHS As I’m A Student?

Friday, January 24th, 2014
Q.

Hello,
I am currently studying at university and I am 19. Over the past year my canine tooth has erupted out but now it is close to being in line with my other teeth, it grew over the top of my other teeth.
It is quite unsightly. My other canine tooth erupted when I was around 11 and my dentist just told to me to wait for the other one to erupt. It makes my teeth look overcrowded. My question is why did this canine tooth take so long to erupt and grow through and will I need braces and can I still get them on the NHS? How long would I have to wear them for? Thank you for your time and I look forward to your advice.

My 3rd Aligner Fitted My Teeth Poorly And I Can’t Help Thinking My Aligners Are Moving My Teeth Into The Wrong Positions. What Should I Do?

Thursday, January 23rd, 2014
Q.

I am on my last set of simpli5 aligners, when I had the 3rd aligner fitted I noticed it fitted my teeth very badly, I gradually noticed one of my front teeth started moving away from the brace, leaving a gap between the tooth and the brace, this gap remained in brace 4 and its still there in brace 5. My dentist has said if it doesn’t catch up and move forward, we will return to brace 3 then 4 then 5 again. How will the previous aligners fit if each brace has moved my teeth? I was also told at the consultation that I would have X-rays but I didn’t end up having any. He has also said I may need to purchase another set of aligners. I just can’t help thinking the aligners have got ahead of my teeth now they are in the wrong position altogether, surely when the dentist fitted each new set he would know if I was ready for the next aligner?

Do You Know How I Can Get Braces On A Low Income?

Thursday, January 23rd, 2014
Q.

Hi Dr Moore. I hope you can help. I was once referred to an orthodontist by my dentist for braces. I was told I would have the train tracks on both top and bottom, to straighten out my bottom overcrowded teeth. This was when I was under 18, stupidly I refused the treatment as I had bad confidence issues anyway and did not want my school friends to make fun of me. I’m now 29 and unemployed on benefits. I have enquired about private treatment but find it very expensive. Have you any advice on this matter? Thank you.

My Wisdom Teeth Are Forcing My Teeth Out Of Shape. Should I Have Them Removed?

Wednesday, January 22nd, 2014
Q.

Dear Dr Hughes, I’m 19 years old, and I’ve had braces when I was 11 years old up until I was about 13. Now my wisdom teeth are coming through and my teeth are being forced together and slightly starting to form out of line and shape, which is making me rather paranoid, I’d love to get a brace or something that can re-line my teeth again but am unsure about how I go about this? Also do you advise waiting for the wisdom teeth to come through fully or seek to get them removed, as you can imagine I’m in a load of pain and can’t cope much longer!

Kind Regards.
