I have had ongoing problems with my teeth for many years

Wednesday, September 24th, 2008
Q.
Hi doctor, I have had ongoing problems with my teeth for many years, e.g. a small filling, then larger aone then crown then the post crown snapped and i had tooth extracted… i moved onto a maryland bridge as not to effect good teeth…. this has been a similar story for alot of my teeth,,,, at times my crowns have felt low…as i clench my teeth when sleeping i feel that this has put pressure on my teeth over the years and i am now left with only two teeh on my right lower side and one of those is a crown… I am now going down the implant route, overall I need maximum 4 or minimum two, however I am worried that my clenching will cause the same damage to the implants??? Also, I do really like my dentist however, I dont know whether to get a second opinion, as I feel disloyal and would I really use another dentist as I have been with my dentist for 20 years….. but do I know whether she has provided my with high quality treatment ???? My dentist used to be nhs and treatment felt rushed as she was very busy, (the practice is in the most prestigious area in the city)… Now as a private dentist it still feels rushed?? are these good signs??? I feel so vunerable right now and unconfident…. I have looked for information on what makes a good dentist but to no avail as information is very broad and non specific….please help

can you help me komal with my daughters teeth

Sunday, September 14th, 2008
Q.
Hello Komal, not too sure whether you will be able to help me or not; but here goes. My daughter has just turned 4. We have had a problem since here teeth first appeared. Mainly the 4 front top and 4 bottom. At first the dentists thought it was flourosis, so we treated her accordingly, however after extensive hospital tests it proved nothing of the sort. As we were advised to avoid flouride, we now realised she needed it more than ever. Her teeth on the face and cutting edges started to crumble. We were referred to the Orthodontics hospital in Bristol where she had white painted material intially applied, and then over later months almost like a white filling applied to the directly affected areas. The problem is that these filings fall off after a week or so and then her teeth become too painful for her to eat. We have been told that they can keep reapplying these surface fillings, however we were wondering whether there is a more permanent alternative? The last resort is to have the teeth removed with GA but the hospital do not think these teeth are bad enough to merit this. Due to the constant irritation and pain my daughter is in, is there a cosmetic solution that we can apply to these milk teeth? veneers? I can send you some images of the affected teeth if you believe this would help in your appraisal. Many Thanks in advance.

i took one molar out when I was 12

Sunday, September 14th, 2008
Q.
I took one molar out when I was 12. (now I am 19) now… the place where I took the molar out has dissapeared, (bone atrophy) and the problem is that my face is misshaped now because on one side I have all the molars and on another I have one missing. To do something about it I thought to take 3 more molars to balance the structure of my face and becuse the molars were very damaged anyway and needed to be tken out (this happened last year) now i regret taking out so many molars out and I want to now if i can have implants especially on the side where i took the molar out when i was 12. i would also like to mention that i also need orthodontic treatmeant because i have a deep overbite. what shoud i do first. thank you.

I am 33 and still have a baby tooth

Sunday, September 14th, 2008
Q.
Hello there, I am 33 and still have a baby tooth which is on the top left hand side, 2 away from my 2 front teeth. The adult tooth is above this and as far as I know sat in the correct position but has just never come down. I have started recently having a bit of tenderness in the gum and the tooth is a little painful, but nothing where I feel I have to take a painkiller. I am very worried now, as been reading that I will have to see a cosmetic dentist to either have the tooth pulled down by means of a brace and bracket contraption or have the 2 teeth removed and a false tooth fitted. Main concerns are, I am a single mum on benefits after my husband left me when my baby was born and could simply not afford to pay privately, and also at the age of 33 I am very upset at the thought of a brace. Would this procedure be done on the NHS and if so, what are the chances of me having both teeth removed and a false one in its place to avoid a brace? I have been reading that leaving the adult tooth in the gum can cause a multitude of problems the older you get and its really upsetting me and worrying me, whereas some websites suggest leaving the tooth well alone if there is nothing wrong with them as they “rarely cause problems”. Thank you very much for your time.
