I am 55, is that too old to receive braces?

Tuesday, November 6th, 2012
Q.

Hello there Dr Hughes. I am 55 yrs old. I always had beautiful straight teeth but now my 22 front teeth seem to have receded by the teeth beside them which have come forward so that on sometimes when I smile they look like they are missing.I also have receding gums. I would like to get my teeth nice and straight again. I don’t really want to have veneers as I have heard so many negative things about them. Do you think I am too old for orthodontic treatment as in having a brace? Do you have any other suggestions. Many thanks, I await your reply.

Is there a way I can move one of my back teeth to replace a missing front tooth?

Wednesday, October 31st, 2012
Q.

I have big problems with my teeth right now. One of my teeth is not aligned with the other, not because it really is misaligned but I lost the front one. I used to have a wisdom tooth on that part, but I had it removed because it looked very ugly. It is where the biggest and pointed tooth is and I have two of them in one part of the gum. Since I lost the front one, the only tooth left on that part is the back one. It isn’t nice to look at. Are there methods to forward that tooth? Many thanks to you for the advice in advance

I noticed a black line above my tooth and was told I have receding gums. What can I do?

Monday, October 29th, 2012
Q.

I have just paid 7,000 pounds to have my top teeth improved with bridge work and porcelain veneers. Work was finished in aug I noticed few weeks ago a black line above tooth. When the hygienist looked she said my gum line is receding. She advised me to use sonic toothbrush nd to massage my gum with gauze in a downward motion. I feel absolutely sick that I need to look at this and it is noticeable when I smile. What can I do. Many thanks

What did my dentist mean when he said my jaw could have jarred?

Tuesday, October 16th, 2012
Q.

June 30th, I tripped whilst running and fell, my teeth bore the initial impact- upper right incisor cracked and upper left incisor slightly chipped. I saw a dentist two day afterwards who filled the chipped tooth with composite and an X-ray revealed that my right incisor was cracked not only n the middle as if you we’re looking at me but also under the gum at the back of the tooth. The tooth was treated with roo canal, a reconstructive post and a temp crown. Since then I have noticed that my upper teeth seem to have retracted, loss of lip support and therefore volume and mouth appears less full. I have been told my jaw could have jarred, what does this mean? End of Aug an abscess appeared on the gum above my upper right incisor. I have since had it removed- and a bone graft so it is rely for an implant, a temp bridge currently sits in place of the missing tooth. My real concern now if with the change in my lips/ face. Loss of lip support! Philtrum appears falter and longer, bite feels different and physically I can feel a significant difference.
Can you advise if their are any solutions for me? I do not want a lip filler as that will not alter the actual structure of my mouth or the way it feels functionally? This is really distressing me and I am really looking to explore solutions.
Yours in hope.

My front, right tooth is stuck inside my gum, what can I do to get this fixed?

Friday, September 14th, 2012
Q.

hi, i have a tooth problem where my front right tooth has sunk up into the gum its about quarter in since the last 5-6 years i had to have braces in for nearly a year to try and pull it down but it did not move at all, i forgot to attend two appointments after and so they took me off their dentistry register.
so now i have not done anything about it, but i am a bit worried that it could get worse, other than that i would like to have it level with my other front tooth.
i had x rays it showed the tooth was still alive but the colour is a little greyer than the others.

Any advise would be much appreciated, thank you in advance.

What are the options for treating advanced gum disease?

Thursday, August 16th, 2012
Q.

I have advanced stage gum disease and have lost teeth due to it. I am currently seeing a dentist who has removed the 4 front lower teeth and did deep scale cleanig with bone scraping and now am wearing an interim partial. My question is, are there any other options to advanced gum disease other than tooth extraction? When is laser gum surgery still an option? And is most dentist skilled in this procedure?
I am very self conscious about my appearance and just the removal of these front teeth has weighed heavy on my when I look in the mirror without my partial in.
Thank you in advance.

I’ve been told to let my teeth fall out then I can receive dentures, what would you suggest I do?

Friday, August 10th, 2012
Q.

Hi, I wondered if you give me some advice regarding my dental matter? My gums have receded badly and where my 4 front teeth are positioned my teeth are all loose. I am considering dental implants but would this be possible as my gums have receded, what is the likely cost?
My dentist suggested that I leave the teeth until they fall out and then wait up to 6 weeks for dentures. I do not want to wait 6 weeks. They are now uncomfortable and I am having a lot trouble when eating. What else would you suggest? Thank you.

Can you recommend a dental expert in Northern England to treat my gum issues?

Monday, August 6th, 2012
Q.

Dr Hughes

Having no previous dental problems I decided to have cosmetic dentistry 2 years ago.

I have had crown lengthening procedure, 10 veneers followed by further surgery on my gum pockets.

I am left in constant discomfort from bleeding, swollen and sorte gums. My gums feel as though they do not fit around my teeth anymore and that I have too much space between the teeth where food accumulates.

I have also had severe bruxing, a jaw disc out of line and incorrect bite. All in all, a mess.

My dental hygiene is excellent. I believe that the preparation on my teeth and surgery was incorrectly carried out.

I went to great lengths to do my due diligence prior to choosing a dentist. My dentist has tried to fix the issues but seems to have exhausted is own knowledge or skills.

I have lost all faith in the dental profession.

Can you recommend an expert in the north of england to diagnose and advice a treatment plan please? Can you suggest possible causes and treatments for the gum issues?

Thank you in advance for reading this.

Yours sincerely.

I am not happy with the veneer treatment I have received, how can this be fixed?

Tuesday, July 10th, 2012
Q.

Hi,  can you please advise me with an issue? Today i had my very first veneer on my front tooth as it was badly stained due to nerve infection and also my second tooth is discoloured too which has not been veneered yet. I am not happy with it, I can still see the original grey stained colour through the veneer and its upsetting. I have already paid, do you think that my dentist will change the veneer?

As i am not happy with the veneer, and I wanted to book appointment with yourselves, how much will the veneer cost? Or Can i have the veneer whitened if that can happen? The dentist did not inform me on which type of veneer she had done. I am happy to send a picture. Thank you for your time.
