Friday, June 17th, 2011After suffering from Periodontist I need a new set of teeth. Help?
Friday, June 17th, 2011 Dear Dr Hughes
I suffer from Periodontist in the most advanced form I have lost seven teeth in the top and a lot more are loose. I did receive treatment in the newcastle dental hospital and they got it under control. They say that i have to stop smoking because it will make it worse. I see my dentist every 3 months for a scale and polish but i am not happy with the treatment i am receiving. He made me two sets of teeth in the last year and i cannot wear them. My bite does not meet. So I am know going to go to a private cosmetic dentist and wonder if you know if i can get a full set of cobalt chrome dentures made.
thank you
My teeth seem to change on a daily basis, what is the cause?
Friday, June 17th, 2011Hello Doctor,
What should I do? I have been wearing a one of the night mouth guards…but not sure if it making is better or worse. As I said before…I take pics of my teeth…certain times ok and others not so happy. Can’t really get anyone to be honest with you about your teeth…so what can I do? Thank you very much for your time
Can my broken tooth be saved?
Friday, June 17th, 2011My upper back tooth, the one just in front of my wisdom tooth has had fillings, then a root canal. A year after the root canal the front wall of the tooth (just below the gum line)broke away. The back and side walls of the tooth were still fine. My dentist suggested a crown. After working on the tooth for a while he stopped due to my gum bleeding too much. I now have a tempory material over the portion of the tooth that is left and I need to return so he can take another look at it! Do you think the tooth can be saved? If the dentist decides its not possible to fit a crown is there anything left that can be done to save the tooth? Thank you for your time doctor
I have advanced Periodontitis, are dentures my best option?
Monday, June 6th, 2011 Hi
I have advanced Periodontitis and have been told that the pockets after having treatment for three years are still 12mm + deep in some areas. The shift in my teeth is quite horrendous especially the two front teeth which now have huge gaps between them and jut out quite badly so the bite is off. Its very embarrassing for me, once a gummy woman, now a long toothy one embarrassed to smile.
My dentist has told me that I could have the two front teeth (possible the ones either side) removed and to replace them with a partial chrome plate denture. I’m wondering whether there are other alternatives and if this is the right move at this stage?
Also if going down the road of having teeth extracted, wouldn’t a bridge work the same way and isn’t this available on the NHS? Won’t having a chrome partial denture affect the cleaning of the teeth?
I know that the bone in my jaw is not in good shape, so even if I had the money, implants wouldn’t be an option.
I am left with awful jutting teeth, with huge gaps and gums which seem to be disintegrating even though I try hard every day to keep on top of my health routine. Please can you tell me what the best options are? I’m worried I may make the wrong choice and have to live with being toothless.
Thank you
I cut my gum with dental floss can it get infected?
Tuesday, May 31st, 2011I slipped whilst flossing after brushing and slightly cut into my upper gum. It only bled a little bit and I rinsed with water and corsodyl. I have recently had very slight inflammation of the gums and worried that i may have caused any long term damage by cutting the gum. ie: will anything get pushed into the cut and cause infection. I use an electric/sensitive toothbrush twice a day with corsodyl toothpaste and daily mouthwash and floss nightly.
I’m 29 and really care about my teeth as when i was younger I wasn’t so good, but now i’m on a roll and do everything I can.
Thank you for your time.
I had brace work at 10 but my front teeth stick out, what can I do?
Tuesday, May 31st, 2011Hello,
I had braces when i was 10 for 3 years! Unfortuantly they didn’t take any teeth out and now my front two teeth stick out and the gums have start to receed, i also suffer with grinding my teeth at night which has caused the back one’s much problems (i have been doing it since my grandad died when i was 15) and now my dentist wants to take one out as it’s causing me so much pain. The thing is i do not want it out as i am worried they will go even more wonky and cause me even more trouble, i can not afford braces as i am a single mum (I am working but still not alot of spare cash) is there any chance that i would be able to get some sort of insurance so i can claim for the braces or would the NHS do it for free seeing as they made the mistake in the first place? BTW i am now 24.
Thank you
X-Rays show no problems with my damaged tooth but it still hurts. What’s the deal?
Monday, May 23rd, 2011I was assaulted Just over a week ago. The gum above my two front teeth was very painful and sore after the impact. One front tooth is very tender to bite on, it is not loose or broken. I did have an x ray in the hospital and it shows no signs of any damage. The gum around the front teeth is still quite sore and have some discomfort in the front teeth that comes and goes. Do you think there is damage to to the pulp in the tooth? Can an x ray miss something?
Why are my crowns turning black at the gum?
Monday, May 23rd, 2011 Hi
About 5 years ago I had 2 crowns fitted to my 2 front teeth.
I went to the dentist yesterday as I have noticed in the last year or so that one of the crowns has developed a grey line at the top at the gum line.
I seem to recall being told before that this was often an issue with crowns as the gum recedes. However when I asked my dentist about the cause, she said that it was nothing to do with gum recession but that she thought there was a problem with the crown. She thinks it might have a crack in it which is causing bacteria to get in and rot the remaining bit of tooth underneath and hence making it go black. She suggests replacing both crowns to ensure a colour match.
Could you give me your opinion please as to the likely cause of this dark line?
Her advice would be very expensive and disappointing after only having them done 5 years ago.
Thanks
Why is the Gap in my teeth becoming wider?
Tuesday, May 10th, 2011 Hi Dr Verma,
I am very depressed with my front upper teeth. I am 37 year old, and have over the year realised that my front upper teeth have started to widen apart, and the right front upper is started to move outer leave so much gap (similar to Picture 1 from your album below). the same gap have started on the lower front. My question is how to bring them together, and how much its likely to cost me for both upper and lower. I have been to my local dentist and when asked about this all they seem to say is its all age related, my gums have started to shift up which allows the teeth to move. I do get a lot of pain in the mornings as i come to realise that my tongue has probably pushed onto them, and also if i try to bite an apple i get pain straight away, please can you advise. Many thanks
