Q.

Hi Doctor Moore, I am 28 years old. i have more 4 root canals in my mouth and covered by crowns. i was not very careful about my oral health but now i have been doing flossing, cleaning properly since last year. my front teeth have not undergone any treatment yet. but a gap is generating day by day between these teeth and it looks unaesthetic. is due to flossing? i am not too old to loose my teeth. there is a gum shrinkage in these teeth. in spite of all my measures of brushing, flossing etc , there is no positivism. What should i do? i want to save my front teeth at least to preserve my smile. please help.

I have a small gap in between my two front teeth following brace treatment, will my retainer fix this?

Thursday, December 6th, 2012
Q.

Hi Doctor Moore. I had my train track braces removed a few years ago and very rarely wore my plastic removable retainers. My teeth have remained straight but I have a small gap between my front two teeth. Those could be caused by the fact I suck my thumb! I was wondering if I would need to have braces again to close the gap or if wearing my retainer again would close the gap? If I was to give up sucking my thumb would my teeth move again and close the gap? I really don’t want to go back to wearing braces again, would I maybe require a bonded retainer do you think? I can see the gap getting bigger every day and it is worrying me…Thank you for your help. Kind regards.

I think I have a crossbite and it is causing me a lot of pain when I eat, can I get this corrected through the NHS?

Thursday, December 6th, 2012
Q.

Hi Doctor Moore. My name is Steven and I’m 29 years old. My jaw seems to hang lower on the left side of my face and on that side I can not put my teeth together, therefore I have never been able to chew food on that side of my mouth. Also when viewed in the mirror, my jaw on the left side is quite markedly lower than on my right side and looks as if it is not seated correctly. Because my right hand side of the jaw is solely used, it is starting to cause pain as I cannot chew food on my other side. Is there any way I can get this corrected on the NHS? and do you have any idea as to what has caused these problems in the first place? Many thanks and kind regards!

Is there a way my teeth can be fixed within six months?

Wednesday, December 5th, 2012
Q.

Hey Dr Moore. I have a few problems with my teeth that need fixing as soon as possible. I have two front canine teeth that are like fangs, they are based more forward and higher up than all my other teeth. I also have crooked teeth on the front at the bottom. To be honest i have never really looked after my teeth and have 5 fillings already. I just wanted to know if there is a way to straighten them mainly the top two and if so can it be done in 6 months? I don’t like the dentist which is why i never go and i know for a fact my teeth need a good sorting out.

I look forward to hearing from you and hearing if this is something that can get sorted or if I have to just deal with my smile putting all my photos of me to shame!

thank you for your time.

regards,

As I’m a student I can’t afford to pay for the dental treatment I need, what should I do?

Wednesday, December 5th, 2012
Q.

Hello, I have been interested in getting dental treatment for some time.

A tooth at the front is slightly brought forward in comparison to the other one, and there is a slight gap, I have researched and visited several dentists about this whom have advised me, however as I am a student all of these costs are out of my reach.

Could you please provide me with your advice in regards to this matter as I would like to deal with this issue now rather than later.

I look forward to hearing from you

Sam

I haven’t seen a dentist for 8 years and my teeth are in a state, what should I do?

Wednesday, December 5th, 2012
Q.

Hi Dr Hughes, i have not seen a dentist for 8 years through fear, i have suffered absesses until they have burst on their own, i have lost teeth that were on stems, one of them has snapped off, i have bought tooth adhesive and stuck some of them in myself, very loose and tried to fill in gaps with the adhesive,i have exposed areas where crowns have broken off and i am just left with the decayed bit at gum level, i am finding it increasingly difficult to eat anything solid is there anything at all that can be done? do you do sedation? i am so scared of the dentist and this is why my teeth have gotten into such a bad state over the years. thank you for your time and help.

I keep needing root canals after getting dental crowns. What should I do?

Friday, November 30th, 2012
Q.

A year ago I had crowns on 5 upper front teeth replaced (solely cosmetic reasons originally). 2 of these subsequently need root canals. Just prior to this it was discovered that another 2 of these crowned teeth needed root canal re-treatment. During the last month or so, one of these (re-treated) crowns on a canine tooth has developed a \’lip\’, into which I can insert the tip of my fingernail. When I floss or use an oral irrigator I have now noticed a smell. The dentist xrayed the tooth but says there is nothing wrong with it but will replace it. I am loathe to do this due to all the recent problems I have had and yet more trauma to this tooth, & which , with every crown replacement, is fitted higher and higher up into the gum. On the other hand I don\’t want to forever have bad breath!! What would you advise? Is there any way this margin around the gumline/crown can be filled? Thank you

I’ve been experiencing gradually worsening jaw ache since getting a filling. What should I do?

Monday, November 26th, 2012
Q.

Hello. I had a dental filling done about four weeks ago and about two weeks ago I started to get and ache on that side of the jaw. It’s not an awful pain and until today (four weeks since the dental treatment) I haven’t needed pain killers. I went to the doctors two days ago and he couldn’t see anything obvious and prescribed some anti inflammatory tablets. Could this ache be related to the dental treatment? The pain is on the left side of my face and at it’s worst it feels as if the ache is spreading to left ear along the jaw.

Should my son have upper lip frenulum surgery on the NHS if possible or privately?

Monday, November 26th, 2012
Q.

Hi, My son is 8 and half. He has attached upper lip frenulum. He was referred to university hospital by dentist to have surgery 6 months ago. Hospital refused & said it’s a dental chair job or leave it until he’s 10 or older. The gap between his adult teeth has closed naturally but his dentist insists he needs op as gap will open up. The dentist is not willing to do it himself. He has referred us again to hospital but I think they will again turn us away. Do you advise us to go private and have laser surgery? How much does this cost as I was hoping the NHS would solve the problem. Any advise very much appreciated. Thanks.
