I have had full upper arch restoration done in Budapest

Wednesday, March 11th, 2009
Q.
I have had full upper arch restoration done in Budapest (no implants). She also extracted 5 lower arch teeth, leaving me with LL7 LR7 as anchors hopefully, then 2 or 3 remaining teeth (2 crowned already) including LL2 and LR2. So I have that central gap. Unfortunately she made the temporary dental plate BEFORE extractions and it is a bad fit; I have been able to adjust it quite a lot myself by filing with my pedicure kit! (NOT rocket science) and it didn’t really require the metal sides as the only difference it made was discomfort! I am really unable to eat with this present as it stands too “PROUD” and my tongue gets lacerated. I was very happy with the restoration work on the upper arch however. My question is mainly, is it still cost effective to return in 8 weeks or so to complete this treatment as I am definitely going to need an interim made in the meantime. Will a dentist here be able to adjust the current temporary? What is the general cost of a partial plate with 8 units on it? I would want the permanent one made in conjunction with crowns to my existing teeth, meaning 7 crowns in addition. The cost of the upper crowns and bridges, 5 extractions, 3 posts, temporary plate was aro

the whole appearance of my dentures have changed

Tuesday, March 10th, 2009
Q.
Please, please, please can you advise and help me. I have been undergoing a course of treatment for new partial top and bottom dentures since November 2006 and am no nearer to completing the treatment. I don’t feel I can smile any more and I don’t know how much longer I can go on. My husband and I were planning to renew our wedding vows in June 2007, when he returned from a tour of duty in Iraq with the British Army. My dentist suggested Valplas dentures, the first set of which were a very poor fit and I was unable to wear. I then lost another tooth and ended up having a tooth added to my 10 year old dentures, having them repaired and strengthened and having to wear them to renew our wedding vows. When my gum had healed, I started again on a course of treatment to replace my upper dentures. They are Valplast dentures again and from trying the wax set in to having the final set the whole appearance changed and the texture of the palate leaves my tongue constantly sore. The teeth on this set are shorter than my 10 year old set and they slant inwards, leaving my smile looking dark and toothless. I am a Denplan patient, and during this time my dentist became ill. Last year I tried to change to another dentist, but they wouldn’t take me on their register until I had finished my current course of treatment. I went back to my old dentist and the appointments continued to be cancelled. Unfortunately I haven’t kept a record of the number, but I guess I have had, during this course of treatment, in excess of 50 appointments and approximately half of those have been cancelled. My dentist has now retired and his practice has been taken over by another dentist, who has resumed my treatment, but I find him very harsh and rough and after my last two visits find I am getting frightened at the thought of my next visit. I still haven’t got a new set of top dentures that can give me my smile back and haven’t even started on my bottom dentures. My husband is now serving in Sierra Leone and I would love to be able to smile when he comes home. Please could you tell me how much new upper and lower partial dentures would cost and also how long it would take to make and fit them (I think it will be cosmetic dentures that I need and not the ones with implants as I have had (I am sorry I am not sure how to spell this) apasectomies on about 6 of my top front teeth. I now have only three teeth at the top, two at the very back and one at the front/side, and seven at the bottom – one at the back and the rest at the front. My husband has been away most of the time last year and this and should be coming back at the end of July and I would love to be able to smile when he comes home. I really hope you will be able to help me. Please can you reply as soon as possible as I am desperate to know if I can start to put things right in time for my husband coming home.

my denture is uncomfortable are there any advanced materials available

Monday, March 9th, 2009
Q.
I am 60 and have been wearing a partial denture for about 18 months. (4 teeth, upper left jaw). I found the “immediate” plastic denture uncomfortable and had it replaced by a more expensive denture with metal fixings and brace – but I find it even worse. It looks great, but I find it constantly irritating; and my lips get dry and sore. Are there any advanced materials or techniques that might help me come to terms with wearing a denture? I have investigated the possibility of implants, but I would need extensive bone grafting as I lost two of the teeth many years ago.

i was on steroids for a number of years this has led to teeth loss

Thursday, March 5th, 2009
Q.
Dr Andrew, about 4/5 years ago i was diagnosed with retro peritonial fibrosis, i was then put on a heavy course of steroids for for a number of years, this led to my teeth loss as i was prone to a lot of infection, my dentist rather than saving any teeth just used to pull them out, i always remember, i have a couple of solid teeth, he had to break them off to get them out, so now i have dentures, the same has happened to my lower jaw, although i,m off the steroids, i only have three lower teeth, the dentures i have are useless as they are loose and bottem ones no good,How can i get them to make a good set of dentures as the ones i have are always loose and so thick, also could i have any chance on NHS implant treatment even as a practice patient, i am 44 years old, or can they make a slim set of dentures, i like that picture of your patient with one tooth, and then fully restored set, any advice would be helpful. kind regards
