I Have Four Front Teeth Missing And Would Like To Know My Denture Options As I’m Getting Married Next Year?

Friday, August 15th, 2014
Q.

Hi Dr Moore. I have had my 4 front upper teeth missing for a number of years now. I had bad teeth ever since I was a child and my 2 back teeth each side on lower(wisdom) are also missing. What options have I got as I don’t know which denture treatment I need and the costs as I’m self employed? They get me down and I need to do something about them as I want to get married in the next year and want to be able to smile. My teeth are bad and I feel ashamed to go to local dentist. Thanks.

I’m Finding It Very Comfortable To Eat With My Partial Denture, It Feels Like Not Chewing Anything. What Other options Are There?

Friday, August 8th, 2014
Q.

Hello Dr Hughes. I have just had a one tooth pallet inserted and I am finding very hard to eat. It feels as though I am not chewing anything, all I can feel is the plastic. I don’t no if this is normal and have they done it right. My gums have been bleeding a lot and just calmed down recently. What are the best things to eat for the first week?  Is a pallet the best way or is there a better option? If so which? I find this way very uncomfortable. Thank you for your time.

It’s Too Painful To Wear My Partial Denture. What Would It Cost To Have My Remaining Teeth Removed And Replaced With Dental Implants?

Thursday, August 7th, 2014
Q.

Hi Dr. Moore. I have a big problem with my teeth, they hurt all the time. My dentist has X-rayed them and checked them and there is nothing wrong with them. He took the front top ones out and this relieved the pain for a while. I have a partial denture but I can’t wear it for longer than half an hour and I certainly can’t eat with it in. The few teeth I have left are now hurting again and I wondered what it would cost me to have them all removed and implants done, I am on disability benefits so I would need a payment plan, please can you help or advise me. Thank you.

I Struggle To Keep My Dentures In As I Have Emphysema And Cough A Lot. What Can I Do To Hold Them In Place?

Wednesday, August 6th, 2014
Q.

Hi Dr Moore. I am female and aged 63. I have emphysema and I cough continuously, I have recently had my teeth out due to gum disease and have partial plate both top and bottom. I have tried to wear the dentures from May but I continually gag and end up being sick, I am lucky if I can keep them in for an hour. My dentist says he can not take any more from the top plate and if he did there would not be enough plate left to hold them in. If it’s not the gag reflex it’s the cough, please help. Thank you for your time.

Hello. My Veneers Are On Coming To Their End. Could I Get Dentures Instead? Would This Be A Better Solution?

Wednesday, July 30th, 2014
Q.

Hello Dr Hughes. I’ve had veneers for over 8 years now and my dentist said they are coming to the end. They are on the top, my bottom ones are still real.

To be honest, I regret getting these veneers. Several have come off over the years, which has been distressing. I don’t want to have to spend so much money to replace them. I want to know if there is a cheaper alternative to replacing the veneers?

Dentures? Or something like that. Can I get false teeth to just sit on top of the old ones? I don’t mind if I have to take them out to eat. There is still some of the original enamel on all my top set of teeth, from where it was filed down to fit the veneers. Thanks.

Is It Customary For A Dentist To Use A Crown As An Anchor For A Partial Denture?

Tuesday, July 22nd, 2014
Q.

Hello Marcus. My dentist attached my partial denture to a crown. When I pulled off the partial, the crown came with it! Is it customary or even prescribed to use a crown as an ‘anchor’ for a partial? If I had realized the anchor was a crown when preparing for the partial, I would have objected! My dentist maintains that the partial was a “temporary fix,” but would not respond to my question about using the crown as an anchor. He also said he would charge me to “glue the crown” back on so I can continue wearing the partial. There is so much decay now where the crown was, I doubt that the glue would hold; further, I still don’t think it’s a good solution. Is this ever a good idea? Do you have any suggestions for me? I can’t eat regular food now. Help!

Could I Have An Upper Plate Attached With No Pallet? How Is This Achieved?

Thursday, July 17th, 2014
Q.

Hello Dr Moore. I really hope you can help me. I am a long-term denture wearer, I’m a little sick and tired of it in all honesty and I’m looking for options. I saw an advert recently which mentioned that you can have an upper plate with no pallet attached. Is this true? Do you think this would involve dental implants and if so at what costs would be involved? I’m new to all this, I’ve just really had to make do and put up with it really. I look forward to hearing from you anyway. Thank you.

I’m 63 Years Old And I’m Looking For Advice. My Top Teeth Are In A Bad Condition. Is It A Waste Of Time To Seek Treatment Options At My Age?

Monday, July 14th, 2014
Q.

Hello Dr Hughes. I am 63 years of age and have wore a denture since I was only 12. I had my front three teeth taken out after they had discoloured after banging into a lamp post. In those days that’s what they did. Through wearing a denture all this time my other top teeth are in bad condition. I suppose at my age it is probably a waste of time doing any thing much, but emotionally I have had my fair share of misery regarding my teeth and I need to some expert advice. What you think would be the best option? Many thanks.

I Brush, Floss And Use Mouthwash Regularly But My Remaining Teeth Are Coming Loose. What Can I Do?

Wednesday, July 2nd, 2014
Q.

Hi Dr Moore. I worry a lot over my teeth. I brush, floss and use mouthwash regularly. I have a denture on the top and I’ve a partial denture on the bottom set but some of the teeth that are left, I seem to be losing. I also have black gums at the top of bridge on the gums. I’m looking into giving up smoking but have started to cut down. What can I do? I’m scared the teeth I have will fall out. My bottom denture is fine on its my own but the two teeth in the middle that are becoming loose. Do you have any advice for me? Thank you.

Other Than A Bridge, What Are The Best Treatment Options For A Missing Tooth?

Friday, June 27th, 2014
Q.

Hello Dr Moore, I hope you can help me out. I have one upper canine missing, I would like to know how much would it cost me to fill the gap?
I don’t like the bridge options available because I don’t want the dentist to file the tooth down next to it. Could you please tell me about any other options available and the prices/costs available? It really bugs me as it’s really noticeable whenever I try to smile. Thank you for taking the time to respond.
