My teeth are in terrible condition, what can I do?

Thursday, May 12th, 2011
Q.

I dont have any insurance, and my teeth are terrible. Its to the point where i cant even eat anymore. The pain is getting worse an I have decided that I just want them all pulled. Can I just be put to sleep an have all of my teeth pulled because I want them out?? I can do a payment plan or something. They are all falling apart piece by piece an my two front teeth have a whole in the middle of them an is getting bigger as we speak an the tooth next to it is starting to get a hole as well. I have not had regular dental appointments like I should have due to never having the money for it now they are all just breaking and it is very painfull. There are so many teeth of mine that are starting to lose the white an look almost see through, my enamel is fading I believe is what the commercials say. I just would like to have them all pulled an where dentures atleast I would be able to eat an not have pain anymore. Do you think I can find the right dentist that is in it for the work an willing to help someone that needs it? I will give anything to be put to sleep an have them all pulled.

I would like another option to denture fixative. Advise?

Thursday, May 12th, 2011
Q.

Hello Doctor
I have a 53 year old daughter with slight learning difficulties. She has
a full denture on the top and the bottom. She has great difficulty
keeping the bottom plate in place. She uses masses of fixative which
then ends up all over her face etc.., I want to know if there is any
possibility of her having a couple of implants that would then help to
hold her plate in place? I am not even sure if she could cope with
having implants or come to that if we could afford it. I am sorry I
can’t possibly make my question any longer. hope you can help

I would like a set of dentures but my thumb sucking is causing problems. What are my options?

Thursday, May 12th, 2011
Q.

For many years I was the victim of domestic violence and my teeth are now the only reminder of that awful experience that I have now come through. I have very few teeth left and know I will have to have dentures. I am 54 years old and suck my thimb a childhood habit i never grew out of.
I went to a dentist many years ago and had a part denture made and every time they tried to fit it, it didnt fit properly, I was told by the dentist that this was because the shape of my mouth was changing all the time because I suck my thumb and there was nothing they could do. I am both embarrassed and ashamed of the way I look and can see no hope of ever being happy with myself.

Not happy with my new implanted dentures. What should I do?

Thursday, May 12th, 2011
Q.

Hi Dr Tennet

I wonder if you can help me.I recently completed an upper dental implant procedure. The four implants have been very successful. However the over denture constructed for me has left me feeling depressed.I had it fitted last Monday and friends have been asking me what’s wrong with my face. There are a number of issues with the over denture. The procedure carried out was implants and bar metal work.. which of course secures the denture .To be honest it looks worse than the ordinary denture it has replaced. The front teeth are too prominent and ‘puff” the area above my top lip up…There is a very obvious gap on the curve of the denture where it meets my palate…this is causing real problems with my speech. The actual teeth are ridiculously even despite asking that this not be done. They look like a cheap denture not £8000 worth of re-constructive dentistry. I am also suffering two sore spots…I know its early days but I simply feel that the over denture is a poor fit and design. To be honest I would feel happier with my old denture back. I am not a complainer by nature but I am so unhappy with the final result.
It is only having ‘lived’ with the over denture for a week or so that I am now acutely aware of the problems. I would be so grateful for some advice…I have not contacted the dentist yet. Do you think things can be sorted out.I am a teacher and my voice is my trade…can you offer me some advice please…what should I do ?

I can’t cope with my new dentures but I still need bottom teeth sorted. Can NHS not help me?

Tuesday, May 3rd, 2011
Q.

Hello Dr Hughes. After eight months i am still unable to get used to my upper dentures. I also still need my bottom ones done. I am feeling pressure from my dentist to have the bottom set done even though i am finding i can not cope with my top set. I have lost two stone in weight and now have a new found fear of food. The best he has offered me is denture implants for my top set at a price of £3.500 but i really can not afford this, however i feel i really can not go on with these dentures, and the thought of having to have my bottom set removed petrifies me as i suffer from what you call dental phobia .. to what is an extreme level. My life is ‘hell’ so is there really no chance of help on the NHS?
