I have gaps between my teeth after my brace work has been ‘completed’, what should I do?

Monday, May 23rd, 2011
Q.

Dear doctor,

I am still having my braces on but i noticed holes in where my gums were supposed to be. It looks something like Fig 11 and 13 in this website.

http://www.oralhealthjournal.com/issues/ISarticle.asp?aid=1000151498

My orthodontist said it is not going to grow back on its own. Is there a type of gum implants or treatment for my problems? Or should i ask for her to push my teeth deeper into the gumline?

THANK YOU!

Could cosmetic bonding help smooth my chipped veneer?

Monday, May 16th, 2011
Q.

I had a veneer six years ago to replace one that broke. The veneer looked very good when fitted colour etc, but immediately upon eating found that the bottom teeth hit the underside of the veneer. Returning to the dentist they then took away some of the back of the veneer, which made eating ok again.
Six months later after eating a piece of hard bread the tooth cracked at one side. Again returning to the dentist they smoothed down the tooth, it was now slightly shorter and rounder.
I did contact the dentist 2 years later who said they would replace it, as I preferred the original veneer, (unfortunately they couldnt find the original mould) but thought the same thing could happen again so I decided to leave it.
However never being entirely happy with this tooth I wondered what your thoughts were, and if cosmetic bonding to fill in the slightly chipped look and to make the tooth slightly longer would work?
The tooth next to the veneer has been aligned slightly with composite bonding that was done at the same time the original veneer was fitted by the dentist.
Thank you.

I have over crowded teeth, what would be my best options?

Thursday, May 12th, 2011
Q.

Hello Dr Verma. I hope I find you well. I have a question I would very much appreciate you answering. I am twenty years old and I have over-crowded teeth with one of my front teeth slightly overlapping the other one. A dentist here in India has advised me to get it mend with the help of veneers as I don’t want to have to undergo the orthodontic treatment. The concept is however new to me. Therefore, I am little apprehensive. Please inform me about the utility (in my case), procedure, after-care etc of the treatment and all of that other important stuff you think is of essential know how.
Thank you for your time.

I have a big gap in my front teeth, what is the best way to close it?

Thursday, May 12th, 2011
Q.

Hello, i’m 17 and have quite a big gap in my front two teeth and the teeth either side also have a slight gaps. 3years ago my dentist told me that the gaps would close naturally quite soon, but nothings happpened. I really hate smiling in photos as I hate showing my teeth. the bottom row are fine. to give a rough idea, my teeth are similar to how the 1st womans were on your portfolio and i’d like to have my teeth like hers are now. I’ve heard veneers would be good, but don’t last long and can crack easily. what would you think the cheapest ways are to fix the gap? can i permenatley get rid of the gap or will it always be there? thankyou

Help teeth driving me crazy and I get frequent tooth infections. What can be done?

Thursday, May 12th, 2011
Q.

Hi,

I have on-going problems with my teeth, resulting in fairly frequent tooth infections. I’m 27 and so far had 3 wisdom teeth extracted and 2 or 3 others due to poor prognosis.
My teeth are a horrid yellow colour, I have one false tooth which I don’t like, various ones that are chipped, breaking down and one with a hole in i. I would like to know my options on getting them sorted. I have been told by my dentist that I have weak enammel due to my asthma and for this reason wouldn’t be able to get them whitened, are veeners my only option and would I be able to get any help from the NHS?
Thanks for you time Dr Mark Hughes. I hope you find the time in your busy schedule to help me with this. Warmest regards.. 🙂

The veneers and crowns my dentist has given me are the wrong colour. What can be done?

Thursday, May 12th, 2011
Q.

Hi, I am in the middle of some cosmetic work and worried about final result. I have had an implant to lateral incisor to replace old Maryland bridge,( I never had an adult tooth here) and am having 3 veneersto the other incisors. I wasn’t happy at the fitting – the implant crown was fixed on and the veners temporarily set on – to me the colour of the veneers was obviously wrong – everything was made D2 – the colour match of the crown is perfect except that in some lights a grey shadow from the implant post shows through. And the veneers looked too yellow. the dentist and technician insisted that they were all a perfect match. I agee that the crown was a perfect match – except for the problem of the grey shadow – but the veneers were not! The dentist was quite annoyed and said this was what I had chosen. They are now going to remake everything in B2 . I am so worried about the final result – if the veneers had been the same colour as the crown I would have been happy. An additional problem is that the gum at the implant site is very high so when I smile broadly I have one obviously long tooth – my bridge had a pink margin at the top to minimize this. I am so worried abouth the next visit.

Q.

Hello, I had eight porcelain veneers fiited five years ago, although I am very happy with the result of a lovely smile, I now wish that I had had the veneers made whiter than they are at present. Please could you tell me if it possible to have my present veneers cosmetically whitened without having to have new veneers? Also how long should I expect the veneers to last before the set will have to be replaced. My worry is also the longer that they are fitted, what is the possibility that my gums will change and that the veneers will , worst case sceniario fall off, arrgh!? Please could you help. Kind Reagrds,

Q.

hi Dr Mark

i would like to ask you regarding to a problem that i have with a crown and veneer. i have just fited a crown and veneer recently but the problem have started since the day i fited them. with the veneer tooth i cant even bite at all, and if i touch it hurts like a bruise in a body. the crown one i feel a gap in the right hand side of the tooth and everytime i breath i feel pain because of that or eat smth cold or hot it hurts like a nerve. i have been several times to my dentist which thinks that everything is perfect and try to find the cause to other teeths. well for the crown one i use to have it before in crown but the dentist decided to replace it with new one for the veneer to match better. i must emphasise that when this tooth was on crown before didnt had any problem and felt like your own tooth.i m not using this teeth(crown and veneer at all) as they both are painfull and is a bigg thing for me as i cant chew nothing. could you please let me know your opinion in that!

I am 23 years old and would like cosmetic treatment for baby teeth. Is this possible?

Thursday, May 12th, 2011
Q.

Dear Doctor Sunita Verma. My question: I am a 23 years old university student from Glasgow. I have not lost my baby tooth (central incisor!!) and it doesn’t have any roots and it’s quite strong as well! But I was wondering to go through some cosmetic surgery as there’s a gap there.
I would really appreciate if you could help and write me your personal opinion on this as my dentist recommended to not to get rid of if as long as it’s strong.

Kind Regards and best wishes.
