i had tooth extractions and orthodontic treatment 10 years ago is it possible to open up the gaps again for dental implants?

Friday, February 1st, 2008
Q.
I had orthodontic treatment 10 years ago, and made it quite clear at the outset that I did not want extractions. The ass who treated me decided that as I was a child, and my treatment was being paid by the NHS, he would send me to have extractions anyway because my teeth were slow to move. So slow, in fact, that he had the audacity to accuse me of not wearing my headgear enough at a time when, unless I wanted to wear the wretched device to school, there were literally no more hours in the day I could be wearing it. The gaps in my upper jaw, 10 years later, are still open wide enough to insert my thumb nail. The front teeth in my bottom jaw are twisted and have worn in an odd pattern which enables then to goudge lumps from underneath my tongue if I do not pay attention while eating. I hate my teeth so much now that smiling open mouthed is something that does not happen. Ever. Would there be any way the gaps could be opened back up for dental implants, or even a bridge? I was so upset at having the teeth removed that I still have them at home. What can be done to fix my bottom jaw? Is it too late to get recourse against this man? I hate my teeth; I hate the man who did this to me; and I really hope you have some advice to offer because I literally cannot go on with my teeth in the state they are in.

Can dental implants be used if i have gum disease ?

Thursday, January 31st, 2008
Q.
I really dislike the appearance of my teeth and have for a number of years thought about having dental implants. The only problem for me is that i really dont want to wait a long time to complete the treatment as i understand it can take between 3-6 months. Also can dental implants be done if you suffer from gum disease as i believe i have that also?? Mrs S

I have bone loss but need quite a few implants the thought of dentures depresses me how much would implants cost and how long would it take?

Thursday, January 31st, 2008
Q.
Dear Dr Caplan I am 49 years old and have substantial bone loss top and bottom jaws. I have in the past been referred to the dental section of Torbay hospital and now I have my teeth strapped upper and lower. Last year I had some xrays taken and my then dentist thought that there might be enough bone for implants but I would need quite a few I think. I believe the cost would be very expensive but the thought of dentures makes me so depressed. I wondered if you might be able to give me an indication on time span and cost if that my be possible. Yours Sincerely S

One of my dental implants has fallen out what is the cause of that ?

Thursday, January 31st, 2008
Q.
I had a couple of implants, 6 and 7, inserted in one session at the beginning of 2006 after bone transplant. Since then biting on that side has not caused me any problems. However, last month the No 7 tooth became loose and, despite antibitiotics treatment, quickly fell out. What would be the likely cause of that (infection?) and can anything be done now please? Many thanks I K
