I’ve Been Terrified Of The Dentist Ever Since I Got Work Done In My Twenties. Now I’m 55, Is The Any Hope For A New Smile?

Friday, February 7th, 2014
Q.

Dr Moore, I’ve been terrified of the dentist ever since I got work done in my twenties. I have not been since and as you can imagine my teeth are pretty bad.  I still have 5 front teeth on my top and 9 on my bottom set. The back ones are in bits literally. The teeth are worn down, is there any hope for me? My personal and social life is being affected  as I am avoiding photographs and going to social gatherings. I am 55 years old and would like a smile back before it’s to late if it isn’t already.

What Time Of Payment Schemes Are Available To Me, I’m On Minimum Wage And Require Dental Implants?

Thursday, February 6th, 2014
Q.

Hi Dr Hughes, I hope to hear your advice. I am just looking to find out some more information about tooth implants. My 2 front teeth are a complete mess, I had terrible mouth ulcers after having a lot of chemotherapy which aided in them starting to rot away. I work and I am on minimum wage, and would like to know if you provide a savings scheme where I can pay for treatment in advance by instalments before treatment is carried out, or if there’s a direct debit option to pay up after treatment. Thank you for your reply in advance.

It’s Time For Me To Consider Implants, Is It Better To Have Individual Implants Fitted Or A Group Of Four?

Thursday, February 6th, 2014
Q.

Hi, through an accident at age 11, I lost my 4 front teeth. I was fitted with a plate and that was replaced at 14. I’ve never had a minutes trouble with adapting to them and they have looked very natural. Today I had a consultation with a dentist nearby who advised me to have implants put in. He said as my gums were good with no disease and I had enough bone, implants would be no problem. I am now 54 and realise I’ve put this off for too long as the teeth on the plate have worn down so need replacing ASAP (although for 40 years he said they were remarkable, I’ve kept them very clean) anyway, could you please tell me what type of different implants there are to chose from. I’m at a loss at all the jargon! I really want to make the right decision and need help doing so. Also how much should I expect to pay for four implants. Lastly, is it better to have individual implants fitted or a group of four- if that makes sense. Many thanks.

My Dentist Has Said My Implants Have Failed Because I Smoke. Could This Really Be True?

Tuesday, February 4th, 2014
Q.

Hi Mark. I recently had 2 implants fail (upper molars) after 2 years. My dentist said this is because I smoke, is that really likely to be the cause after 2 years? I thought the main risk was in the early stages? I avoided smoking (practically) during the first 6 months. I am 46 and otherwise healthy. I would appreciate any advice on this. My dentist didn’t offer any failure plan at the time, so I will need to pay to have these done again! Thanks.

What Is The Cheapest Way To Get Implants For Someone On Jobseeker’s Allowance?

Monday, January 27th, 2014
Q.

Hello Dr Moore, I am just asking this question as I am suffering from really bad erosion and decay of the teeth, half of my teeth have fallen out due to this and it’s really taking a toll on my self confidence as it is really embarrassing. I am just wondering if long term teeth implants would be an option? I currently claim benefits which is for Jobseekers, so I have very little to spend on them. Could you please tell me the cheapest option for long term implants please? Thank you, any advice you can offer me would be greatly received.

I’m About To Lose Two Teeth. I Would Like Some Information On The Options Available To Me. What Can I Have Done?

Monday, January 27th, 2014
Q.

Hi Mark. I have got a false tooth glued to my natural tooth and now this is falling out so I will loose 2 teeth right at the front on the top row. What options do would I have to fix this. I do not want a pallet, I have one sturdy tooth left at the side of the one that which is coming out and the other side is bridged. I have private care and I am going tomorrow but I would like some expert advice so I can at least ask the dentist on what choices I have. I am 51 years old and I have looked after my teeth but I have got receding gums. I think this is where the problem lies, I am a smoker and this is probably one of the biggest causes of my problems. Thank you.

My Daughter Lost Some Teeth After Her Horse Hit Her In The Face. Can You Recommend A Good Implantologist?

Friday, January 24th, 2014
Q.

Hello Dr Moore, I’d like your advice. My daughter aged 32, has had an accident and has been hit in her mouth by her horse. Three front teeth have been knocked out leaving the roots. What can we do and who should she see to correct this for her? We live in the North West and we’re not sure what sort of dental treatment she will need or even who to contact. Should she have implants, veneers or crowns fitted? The cost is not a problem as we want her to have the best treatment. Any recommendation would be gratefully received. Thank you.

I Have Recently Had 16 Teeth Extracted. Is There Such A Thing As Attaching Dentures To Implants?

Tuesday, January 21st, 2014
Q.

Hi I have recently undergone an operation of 16 extractions on my upper set and now I have no teeth at all.
I have a denture but my appearance and mouth has totally changed. I also have an overbite and my lip looks swollen when there worn. I’m still on the same type of food I was eating during after the operation. I am only 20 years young and I would love a long term option. Are there any option that won’t break the bank financially? Is there such a thing as attaching dentures to implants? Thank you.
