Is it possible to have implants where I had 2 of my teeth extracted?

Q. i want to have 2 possibly 3 dental implants these are to fill a gap where i had 2 back teeth extracted many years ago,the remainder of my teeth are excellent and i have only 1 filling in a back tooth on the other side of my mouth.can you fore see any problems arising,also can you advise me of the costs for the treatment. Thank you,

A. It is difficult to give you exact ideas without seeing you. If the space is in the bottom jaw then it really just depends on how much bone is available for the implants. If it is the top jaw it can be more complicated as there is a sinus(pocket of air) in the back of your mouth. This can mean you may need a bone grafting (adding) treatment first. Make sure you find a good cosmetic / implant dentist who can carry out these procedures. You may not need 3 implants and could even have 2 implants and have 3 teeth supported from them.

Can I have implants if I have bone loss?

Q. I have bone loss, non smoker all my life and no medical conditions. I am awaiting 3 top front teeth extrations (have been waiting 2 years), one hanging on by a small thread! hopefully I will be measured for a small plate. Taking daily pain relief and limited in what I can eat and very embarassing talking to patients myself as, I have a fractured tooth and it has dropped. Am I able to have implants if I have bone loss? was offered by dental hospital to have teeth splinted, but was told not a pretty sight, what do you think? Kind Regards

A. It sounds like implants might be the best option although you’ll need x-rays and an assessment to decide if you’ll a suitable candidate. Let me know if you’d like me to take a look.

How does diabetics influence implant surgery?

Q. Hello I am type 2 diabetic ( controlled at present with diet and excercise regime ) I have lost teeth to upper left 3no and 2no to lower right. I am considering implant replacements . Would my diabetes compromise implant surgery . Also if positive what type of implant system is the best ?

A. Uncontrolled Diabetes is a contraindication to surgery and does adversley affect the predictability of dental implants. care should be taken if you lost your teeth due to gum problems.
Most of the main systems have “Bioactive” sufaces like Osseospeed (ASTRAtech) SLA active (straumann) and Nobelbiocare, Biomet etc, I mainly use Astratech dental implants because it is proven to maintain the surrounding bone in later years.

I have been misleaded on the cost of implants

Q. Hi Due to gum disease I lost all of my teeth last year. I would like to know how much it would cost to have full upper and lower implants. i have been quoted from the ridiculous £40,000.00 to the even more ridiculous £6,000.00 (some difference) this is a procedure i will definately be having as soon as possible. Can you please let me know what the correct cost would be? Many thenks

A. Its very difficult to give you a quote without seeing you and assessing the amount of bone you have, how many implants you need and how many teeth to finish things off. As a guide, assuming you will need some bone rebuilding we would charge in the region of £12-15,000 per jaw for 12 fixed teeth held with 8 implants.
let me know if you would like me to take a look and give you a better idea of the costs involved

Is one day implant recommended considering bone loss?

Q. Dr. andrew i am 18 yrs old and i lost my right front tooth at age 7 at a car accident.I need to implant a tooth , i visited a dentist once and he said that i would need to implant bone and gum. I wanted to know if you could tell me if he is right and if i am a good candidate for the one day implant if not how long will the WHOLE precedure last (weeks,monthes). thank you for your attention .

A. I can’t really tell you without a thorough assessment and x-ray whether you would be suitable for an immediately loaded implant or whther the bone needs rebuilding first. As a guess if the tooth was lost 11 years ago i would assume the bone needs rebuilding 1st then the implant placed at a later date. this type of treatment usually takes 6-9 months to complete

Will crown lengthening procedure affect in having an implant?

Q. I had a crown on my front incisor, next to big tooth, and the tooth broke at gum level. I have had a root filling and a post put in with a temporary crown. My dentist wants to do a crown lengthening procedure and fit a new crown. Is this the best solution and will it affect my being able to have an implant if there was a problem with the tooth in the future as I understand they remove some bone? Thanks

A. As long as there is enough bone left after the crown lengthening an implant will still be OK.

A. Unfortunately implants are mainly provided on a private basis. Only in certain circumstances are they provided at nhs hospitals i.e cancer or trauma.

A. hi michelle, there are many practices including mine which offer payment plans interest free and low interest. the cost for fixed teeth per arch to replace a denture ranges from about £10000, to £15000. the best thing would be to book a free consultation think about how much you could afford monthly and we will discuss the right plan of action for your budget. hope this is helpful.

I would like to know if it is possible to have a tooth implant fitted under the following circumstances: My permanent lateral incisors were removed when I was a child (roughly 6yrs old) before they could grow after an accident which fractured my jaw. I have had dentures, bridges and now have one crown fitted on one side and nothing on the other. I am now 37 yrs old.

I m interested in permanent fangs which one is better option veneers or implants?

Q. I am interested in permanent fangs. I’ve heard of two options– one where you can have your teeth sanded down to a certain point, and have veneers placed over them, and they would be like that, permanent, for 15 or so years before they needed to be replaced. And then the more expensive sort– titanium rod implants where the actual bone is modified to give VERY permanent-no-changing-your-mind-later fangs. Is there any more infortmation on these? More specifically, I’d like to know about the former, because I am interested in having it done. Are these permanent to the point where they will not fall off even eating tough things such as steak? To sleep with the

m on, and have them until the 15 years or so is up? Can you give any more infortmation about these, and if you do them? For how much, if so, and every fifteen years, will I have to pay again? And in the event that I may want to switch over from these to the titanium rod fangs– could I? Thank you.
