I Have A Small Crack On The Tooth Adjacent To My Filling. What Treatment Can I Expect When I Go For My Appointment?

Tuesday, May 27th, 2014
Q.

Hi Dr Moore. I hope you can help me. I have previously had a filling to my right upper second molar some years ago. It now seems that there is a small crack on the medial aspect of that filled tooth adjacent to the filling. At the moment it doesn’t cause me any problems, pain or sensitivity, etc and has been like that for a number of months. I am due to have an appointment with my Dentist, but I am wondering which treatment I am likely to expect? Many thanks. I look forward to your reply.

My Crowns Are Too Big. Could I Have Them Removed And Use Braces To Close My Gap?

Thursday, May 22nd, 2014
Q.

Hello Andrew. I had crowns fitted to my two front teeth over fifteen years ago to close a gap. Since having this done I have deeply regretted this as my front teeth look too large in comparison to the rest of my teeth. This has affected my self-confidence greatly. I have recently seen the six month smile brace and I was wondering if I had the crowns removed then replaced to leave a gap would the brace work to close the gap? Thank you in advance for your reply.

I’ve Recently Had Dental Implants. I Don’t Think One Of Them Fits Properly. Should I Get A Second Opinion?

Wednesday, May 14th, 2014
Q.

Hi Mark. I’ve recently had dental implants and on one of them which is a bridge over two implants you can see the metal implant like the crown doesn’t quite fit, it’s definitely the metal of the implant that can be seen and not the crown, there is a small gap between crown and gum.
My dentist has said that there is nothing he can do about it but reading up I’m wondering if a gingival graft would bring the gum down a bit to cover the metal implant. Is this possible or will I need a completely new bridge?
My dentist is private and I have paid a lot of money to get all of my treatment done, is it the dentist at fault if the crown doesn’t fit properly or is it down to me to pay out for more treatment?

I’ve Just Had A Fall And Shattered My Front Teeth. Could I Get Them Both Crowned So They Look Nice?

Tuesday, April 29th, 2014
Q.

Dear Andrew. I have just fallen on my face and shattered part of one of my upper front teeth. I went straight to the dentist who put a temporary cap on it and I need to go back in a few days when its settled down to see if she can save it. But my two front teeth look ugly and both seem to be sticking out a bit. Could I get them both crowned so they look nice? She thinks a white filling will do the trick but what’s best cosmetically. I would really appreciate your opinion on this. Many thanks.

I Had To Make A Complain About An Ill Fitting Plate A Dentist Gave Me. Do You Know How Much It Will Cost To Fix This?

Wednesday, April 23rd, 2014
Q.

Hello Mark. I recently had a cap on a plinth removed which was replaced by an ill fitting plate that fits uncomfortably in the roof of my mouth. This makes it hard to actually speak clearly. I have a large gap the size of two teeth at the top which is really embarrassing. Please can you supply a solution and also an approximate cost of what it would be to fix this? I have made a complaint against the dentist to the dental regulator. This was on advice from another dentist who told me it was the worst piece of dentistry he has seen. I look forward to your reply. Thank you for your time.

I Am Really Upset As I Paid £3000 For Four New Teeth And They Failed. Do You Think A Bridge Would Be A Good Option?

Wednesday, April 16th, 2014
Q.

Hello Dr Hughes. I hope you can answer my question. Last year I paid for four front porcelain crowns and I was also advised to have root canals which came to a total of £3,600. 3 months later one tooth came out when I was eating. Then, as months went on, all of them had to be cemented back in. The dentist now is replacing them with 4 teeth on a bridge. I am really most upset as 3 years ago I paid £3,000 for 4 new teeth and they failed. Do you think that a bridge a good option? Thank you for your reply.

I’m Concious Of My Smile Now That My Crowns Have Dropped. What Can I Do To Fix This?

Friday, April 11th, 2014
Q.

Dear Mark. I have 2 post crowns on the upper right 1 and 2. The 2 crowns have dropped and they are now longer than the rest of my teeth. They have been like this for a little while. As far as I know there is no reason for them to have dropped. There is no movement of the crowns they have just dropped. I am very conscious of it and try not to smile as much. Can the crowns be filed down so they are the same length as the rest of my teeth or will I have to get replacements? If so, would I need to have new posts as well? I have been to the dentist who took X-rays and he said that they are fine and ‘well stuck in’. He gave me no help what so ever, he just wanted to get the next patient in. Any information you could give me would be gratefully received. Thanks.

I’m Visiting London And My Crown Has Broken. Should I Wait I Go Back Home Or Fix It Now?

Thursday, April 10th, 2014
Q.

Hello Mark. I hope you can help me out. I’m visiting London for two weeks, but my crown on my front tooth has just cracked in half. I would like to fix it when I am back in the states, but I don’t want to risk it falling off or breaking more at the moment. Is there something I can do temporarily? Or will I need to replace the crown now, while I’m residing in London?

I would like to know my options before I have to make a decision so any help you could provide me with would be useful.

Thank you in advance for your time.

After A Gum Infection My Dentist Said My Tooth Has Five More Years Left. What Should I Do?

Wednesday, April 9th, 2014
Q.

Dear Mark. I had a root canal on my upper front tooth. This tooth had a plastic material fitted as it was half broken 10 years ago. How long do I have to wait before I can have a porcelain crown fitted on the tooth, as the gum has a visible gap and there is some significant aesthetic damage? Also the dentist left me with a gum infection to deal with and said my tooth has five more years and that I would need an implant. What is the best thing to do as I am a young and attractive and this is getting me down?
Many thanks.

Is It Possible To Have A Bonded Retainer Fitted To The Rear Of My Top Set, With One Being A Crown?

Friday, April 4th, 2014
Q.

Hi Andrew. Quick question for you – is it possible to have a permanent retainer fitted to rear of top teeth – one of which would be a crown? I feel my teeth are moving and before I go to dentist I wanted to check if this was in any way possible – I am scared to bite down on the front teeth – and it’s now affecting what I can and cannot eat? I should also point out that I have missing teeth – I basically have 10 top teeth with no gaps of which 5 are crowns. Any information would be great. Thank you for your time.
