Can I have cosmetic bonding to cover a darkened tooth?

Thursday, January 26th, 2012
Q.

Can I do cosmetic bonding over a tooth that is “dead”? My daughter hit me in the mouth accidentally about 10 years ago and broke my front tooth up in the root. It has since darkened and chipped. I am lookiing for an affordable way to get a nice smile that will last me a few years. I have sufered with bad teeth my whole adult life and it has effected my self-esteem. I am raising 2 teenagers now so the monwy is an issue. I have dental insurance but they do not cover cosmetic procedures. Any advice yo can give me would be helpful. Thank you.

What is the best option for my worn front teeth?

Thursday, December 22nd, 2011
Q.

I require a veneer to the top quarter of one of my front teeth. The enamel here has completely worn away. I am not presently looking for any further treatment. I have recently seen a dentist and other minor works required can wait until I can afford the cost. I cannot have the tooth whitening process as I have tried this and am allergic to it. Could you possibly offer an approximation of cost for a front tooth veneer? I am not sure if it is possible to cover just the affected top quarter of the tooth or if the whole tooth has to be covered? Thankyou

The cosmetic bonding on my front teeth has chipped, am I better off getting veneers?

Monday, November 28th, 2011
Q.

I have bonding on my front four teeth because of poor orthodontic practices. Basically they remove the enamel from my teeth requiring me to have fillings but I wanted it to look nice so I bonded the front four recently. I just had one of them chip. Its minor, just the edge but in trying to not freak out about getting it fixed, I found a lot of people saying that it is really common for them to chip and that even if I get the chip replaced (which I have to, it has left a rough edge) it wont stay very well. Is this true? Veneers are very expensive and require a lot of commitment â seeing as you completely shave off your tooth to put it on. Will bonding at all work as a long term solution? I just need some advice please.

What is the right option for my crooked, gapped teeth?

Thursday, October 6th, 2011
Q.

I would reall like your advice on what I should so about my teeth. I’m 21 years old and when I was about 10/11 I was told that eight of my baby teeth did not have adult teeth growing underneath. My front two teeth were adult teeth but have been crooked since I can remember and have had a gap. I wore fixed braces for two years which straightened them out but the subsequent retainer put strain on one of my molar teeth and subsequently had several fillings and eventually had to come out. I went back to have another retainer but my front teeth had moved apart again. I really lack confidence because of my teeth and don’t know which avenue to go down. I’m a student so money isn’t free flowing, I’m prepared to spend around £2000 on sorting it out but want to be sure I’m taking the right option. I’ve looked into comestic bonding and veneers but would really appreciate your advice on what you would recommend. Thanks

What is the best way to close the gaps at the front of my mouth?

Tuesday, June 21st, 2011
Q.

I have gaps between my two front teeth and between my right front tooth and lateral incisor, and my left lateral incisor and canine. I want to get braces to fix this. Orthodontist says my bottom jaw is too big for my top jaw, so can’t close the gap. Lateral incisors did not grow wide enough, so there is spaces. They can shave my bottom teeth vertically, push them backwards and close the top jaw teeth a little, but will need bonding on the sides of the lateral incisors to close all gaps. I am not excited about bonding on lateral incisors. I was wondering if a veneer on the canines would be sound and they could widen that tooth instead of widening the lateral incisor. Question – would that look too odd or be not strong on a canine tooth? Especially since the problem is that my lateral incisors are the problem with not being wide enough? i don’t want my teeth to look too wide or unnatural. I want a long term solution.

My teeth seem to change on a daily basis, what is the cause?

Friday, June 17th, 2011
Q.

Hello Doctor,

Just got my 2 front teeth bonded to close a gap in my front teeth. I feel like they move from day to day. Sometimes looking really buck and long…other times ok.. I can also feel the teeth on my top lip sometimes…is that a sign that they are bucking out. I have always had a little bucking…but this seems like much more…
What should I do? I have been wearing a one of the night mouth guards…but not sure if it making is better or worse. As I said before…I take pics of my teeth…certain times ok and others not so happy. Can’t really get anyone to be honest with you about your teeth…so what can I do? Thank you very much for your time

Why are my teeth eroding and what can I do?

Friday, June 17th, 2011
Q.

Hello,
I’m afraid the enamel on my front two teeth is eroding. I had braces for two years, and during this time, my teeth did not have that “clear” appearance on the bottom. Once I got my braces off, I noticed that my front two teeth were becoming clear. Since then, I have not been drinking soda and other acidic beverages. However, one of my front teeth has been chipping. Just tiny chips, but it still concerns me. Are my teeth chipping because of weak enamel? I do not eat very hard/crunchy foods, and I do not grind my teeth. I am only 15, and I take very good care of my teeth (I brush/floss twice a day, use mouthwash, etc). I do not want to get composite put onto my front two teeth because it must be replaced every few years and enamel must be removed in order for the composite to stick. I do not want to get veneers/crowns either, because they require shaving down the tooth. What should I do in order to improve the appearance of my “clear” front teeth, and perhaps strengthen the enamel?
Thanks!

My gums have become swollen after cosmetic bonding, what can I do?

Monday, June 13th, 2011
Q.

Hello Dr Moore
I had cosmetic bonding done 6 days ago to close minor gaps between the front teeth. Soon after that The gum tissue in one spot (Behind the two front teeth on the lingual side) swelled up and became painful. I went back to my dentist, he cleaned the surface where he applied the bonding material, which was painful, and gave me chlorhexidine rinse to rinse three times a day. There is some improvement but the area is still swallen and painful. My dentist said that if it does not get better he will need to do even deeper cleaning with local anesthesia. Things are not making sense to me. Why do I need deep cleaning after cosmetic bonding? What’s your opinion?
Thank you for your time

What is the best option for whitening my discoloured, sensitive teeth?

Monday, June 6th, 2011
Q.

Dear Doctor,

I have discolored teeth and would like to have this corrected. I have already tried the more widely available teeth whitening strips but my teeth became very sensitive soon after so I had to stop using them. I also developed a very thin, white vertical line down one of my front teeth and thought that the enamel had been damaged by the strips.

I feel from this experience that a professional laser whitening system would not suit me. I am reluctant to get veneers because I feel it is too invasive to natural teeth.

I have heard of cosmetic bonding and was wondering if this was an option to whiten teeth. Some sources say that bonding can only be used to correct smaller stains, but some suggest that it can be used to whiten the entire tooth.

Please could you tell me if cosmetic bonding is suitable for tooth whitening, Thank You.
