What are prices for cosmetic bonding?

Friday, October 30th, 2009

Q. Hello, I am interested in the option of cosmetic bonding as my teeth are slightly even and discoloured. I would like to know the kind of prices that this would involve (I understand this will vary from dentist to dentist so just a rough idea would be great) Thanks

A. Thanks for your question, you are right in that the prices will vary between practices, but you should expect to pay between £80 – £150 for this treatment.
Many Thanks

Need a need cosmetic dentist in South Wales

Wednesday, October 28th, 2009

Q. Hi, I’ve been reading about teeth bonding as a possible solution to acid erosion. My front teeth have signs of what appears to be accid erosion, although my dentist said there is no problem, but my two front teeth are translucent nearly half way up. Could you please recommend a cosmetic dentist in South Wales (Newport or Cardiff) for me to arrange an appointment to further discuss my problem? Thank you.

A. hi many thanks for your email, i unfortunately do not know any dentists personally from the area i can recommend but if you do a little research i will be happy to look at the dentist for you and give you my opinion on if the dentist will look after you on a cosmetic level.

How to protect the teeth if they have front teeth bonded?

Thursday, October 22nd, 2009

Q. How do you protect your teeth if you have had the front teeth bonded? And what type of toothpaste should you use to keep your teeth from staining?

A. One way to protect your teeth would be to wear a night guard to protect them during your sleep.  Simple toothpasts form your local chemist/supermarket will do a good job to keep your teeth clean – you may want ot visit your hygienist as well!

My dentist gave veneers and crowns as option Plz help

Monday, October 19th, 2009

Q. I went to a local dentist and ask about my options for my two front teeth that are SLIGHTLY worn away on the bottom. he said he would do crowns. I said NO. BECAUSE I didn’t want so much of my teeth to be taken away. He said he would do veneers. I left the office devistated because he took my two front teeth down to miniature chicklets. He put on temps that are joined together in the center and are very tough.

I am sick over this.He is charging more for veneers than crowns. He has now choice to me but to do crowns. What can I do. I called the office and left a message to call me immediately on Monday. What is my recourse?

A. Ideally you should have discussed this before any treatment was done, sometimes cosmetic bonding can repair chipped teeth in a minimal way.  If the teeth are now prepared veneers are the better option.  Please talk to your dentist.

How long will my thin teeth bonding last

Saturday, October 17th, 2009

Q. My dentist just applied bonding to the back of my front teeth. They feel thinner and now I am worried they will break easily. Also, I worry as to how long the bonding will last. If the bonding wears off, what do you do then. I dont want caps. I dont know why he chose to do this procedure. My teeth are pretty and white. Maybe because I am 59 yrs old and perhaps he thought this would help preserve them. Is this a mistake of my life? Am I headed toward more espensive procedures?

A. This is difficult to answer as there can be many reasons for bonding teeth.  If you are concerned please contact your dentist to voice your concerns

What would be the cost for cosmetic bonding?

Monday, October 12th, 2009

Q. Hi my front teeth are perfectly together, however there is a small gap at the outer edge of them between the next teeth. I was wondering how much (roughly) would cosmetic bonding cost to make them look perfect and also how long does it roughly take? ( how many sessions?) It is something that has bothered me for ages and it affects my confidence so I am hoping to get it fixed. Also i have moved to Uxbridge area of Middlesex, so are there any dentists that you know of who could recommend to carry out the procedure, although if required i wouldn’t mind travelling into London. kind regards

A. Bonding takes one visit to do following a consultation. It would cost anything up to anout £400 deoending on the size. I do not know of anyone in this area but im sure if you search for a dentist in that area in google you will find many.

Kind regards

I had bulimia Will the yellow marks disappear by teeth whitening?

Sunday, October 11th, 2009

Q. Hello I had bulimia in the past and my teeth are heavily damaged, the front teeth especially have lost enamel and left ugly yellow marks that brings down my confidence. I am considering teeth whitening. Would this make the yellow marks disappear? Thank you for your time

A. I have treated a number of bullimic patients and if all the enamel has been removed the teeth will not whiten,  better option is bonded fillings or porcelain veneers or crowns.

I m 18 can I have treatment for my teeth at NHS?

Sunday, October 11th, 2009

Q. Dear Dr. Patel, At the age of around 12 I chipped my front tooth after a fall leaving less than half of my front tooth behind. I had a filling applied to this, but the tooth has gradually darkened over time. I’ve heard that this is due to internal bleeding within the tooth. Yesterday, this filling fell out and I am yet again left with half a tooth. The tooth in question is a few shades darker than my other front tooth and it looks very bad. I’m an 18 year old on a gap year, with no money at all. Would the NHS be able to help with my problem because it really looks awful? Thank you

A. You should be able to get NHS treatment you might need a root canal treatment and maybe a crown, or a bonded filling and internal tooth whitening.

How long I need to wait to replace bonding after whitening?

Sunday, October 11th, 2009

Q. I have bonding, approx. 12 years old, on my two front teeth which are stained yellow. I am going to do an at-home whitening system. Do I need to wait 2 weeks after I’ve totally completed the whitening before I have the bonding replaced ? Thus, do I need to wait in order for my teeth to fully absorb & change color to the final “whiteness” in order to accurately match the bonding to the new white? Also, I’ve been told that I cannot do the ZOOM in office whitening because I have extremely sensitive teeth. Is this true as well?

A. Zoom is not advised for extremely sensitive teeth.
You should wait a week after finishing the whitneing before replacing the bonding to give them time to settle.

What are the options besides braces for closing the gap?

Saturday, October 10th, 2009

Q. I’m 15 years old, and have a gap between my two front teeth. Lots of my friends have recieved braces, but I was never offered, and I heard something about once your 16, you have to pay for them. I wondered what my options – besides braces – were for closing the gap, within a resonable price range.

A. If you have enough functional justification for NHS braces its free till 18 or 19 if your in full time education.
Simple ways to close gaps at 15 are bonding tooth coloured filling (  cosmetic bonding ) to do a Diastema closure.
Once your gum shape stabilises ( aound 18-21yrs old ) Veneers are a googd option for diastema / gapclosure.
if you pay private fees expecty around £100 per tooth, but as the gap is usually closed from both sides £200 per gap. AN NHS dentist might do a simplified procedure for free.

What is the better option for rebonding?

Thursday, September 24th, 2009

Q. I have booked an appointment with you to get some advice about what to do with my old bonding on the front of my two front teeth.I think I would want them rebonded as it has lasted me 20 years its now looking old and worn and I think it needs improving.(Its to close the gap diastema)Reading this website it advises to go to a dentist who is really artistic in this area of cosmetic dentistry. When you click on the website to see which dentist does it in my area yours doesnt come up so I am not sure if you really offer this. Also If you do I was wondering whether you use hfo enamel plus material as I am told it is really strong. The reason why I am asking lots of questions is because I am quite scared of getting it redone and I want to improve the look of my teeth.please can you let me know so I have time to cancel the appointment if I need to. Thankyou.

A. Hi

We do carry out cosmetic bonding. It is what I would class as routine dentistry. We do not use HFO. We use gradia, which I feel give better results. We carry out this type of pocedure on a daily basis.

I hope this helps.

I have chipped my front teeth is it possible to have tooth bonding?

Friday, September 11th, 2009

Q. Hi there. I have recently chipped one of my front teeth. I do not wish to get it filed down as my other front tooth is a crown, and this would only make the crown look bigger! Is it possible to have tooth bonding on this front tooth? It is a small thin chip, and only noticable up close. If so does this need to be done privately or can it be carried out on the NHS? thank you for your time

A. hi if this is purely cosmetic which it sounds like it will be a private treatment . if it is a tiny sliver bonding does not always work but is worth a go if it bothers you
