Can you advise on the steps needed to improve my smile in the USA?

Monday, April 11th, 2011
Q.

Hello Dr. Glaister!
I’m hopeing you can give me some advice or direct me in the right direction to getting my dream smile! I currently am a college student at a university in Southeast Texas, and like many other full time students, and part time workers, I just honestly can not afford braces or any other cosmetic dental related care. I live on my own and have been liveing on my own for a long time, and do not currently even have dental insurance. My smile is not perfect and could use alot of work, and all i have dreamed about growing up is having a beautiful smile. I love to smile and i am working on applying to a dental program and becoming a dentist. Getting a procedure to help my confidence and making my smile catch the eye is what i am looking for and i am not sure how to go about it. Any advice?

My teeth are so bad that I will not look somebody in the eye when making conversation. I clean my teeth twice daily use the little brushes to clean in between my teeth and they still look terrible. I would like veneers but can not afford them, what do you suggest? I think about my teeth allday, everyday..

My doctor has suggest two option to create my perfect smile, a brace or root canal surgery. Which is the better option?

Thursday, April 7th, 2011
Q.

Hi
I have been having consultations with a dentits. He was going to fit several crowns and veneers with a bridge to create a perfect smile. However he has said today after taking molds that one of my teeth is too crooked and that really I need braces onit. I cant afford this and it would take years. He said the only alternative was to do a root canal kill off the tooth and put a porcelain veneer on top, he said there were risks and it was un ethical, but as I still seemed interested he would do it for me. To me any type of purely cosmetric dentistry is invasive and could be seen as unethical. Do you think it is ok to carry on with this? inorder to achieve what I set out to do or is it too much of a risk? Many thanks

What options do I have for filling in gaps between my front teeth?

Thursday, April 7th, 2011
Q.

Hi,

So I’ve got gaps between my 4 front, upper teeth. I’ve always had them, my brother and sister have them too, but they also have much smaller mouths than me so their gaps are nearly non-existent and barely noticeable.

I’ve spoken to a cosmetic dentist about closing these gaps in the past, but the cost has put me off. I’m very eager to get this sorted out as it’s killing my self confidence and stopping me from smiling.

usually Veneers would be enough to close the gaps, I would require 4, one on each of the teeth (that are too small for my mouth apparently) the problem with this is that the proportions of my teeth would be way off, giving them the appearance of being short and stubby, so to couple this procedure a gum-lift has been recommended, I have a particularly gummy smile too, so this would fit nicely. However my top and bottom teeth also dont interlock (I forget the term, sorry) this means my canines are all worn down, and because they’d be sat next to 4 perfect teeth, these too would need work so that they’d fit in with my smile properly, crowns have been suggested for this.

All this work is well and good, but the cost is coming in at around £4000, which is a little bit of a hindrance for me.

any advice you can provide would be greatly helpful and appreciated. happy to provide photographs if necessary.

Thanks

How much would it cost for removable vampire fang caps?

Thursday, April 7th, 2011

I would like vampire fang caps for my teeth, but I want to be able to take them out as well, is this possible and how much would it cost? Is there an age requirement and can you fit them to a metal wire like a retainer to hold them in so I can eat?
