My Front Teeth Are Weakening Slightly, Which Cosmetic Procedure Would Be Best?

Tuesday, March 12th, 2013
Q.

Dear Dr.,

I’m thirty years old, and my two front teeth show some signs of wear and translucency at the bottom. I’d like to strengthen them and make them a few millimetres longer. This is because I am a little fearful of any negative risks to them in the future. I couldn’t stand it if one of them started to fall out or die! Obviously I understand that this is not really a dental health issue yet so I suppose you could call it an aesthetic issue.  If veneers are not the appropriate option for this, could you advise me what would best suit and what the estimated cost might be? It might be that they don’t really need too much work at all but I would like to know what approximations you could make.  I assume that any procedure would be done by a cosmetic dentist, and not through the NHS. I live in Cambridge, near one of the Oasys dental centres.

Sincerely, thank you.

My Front Teeth Have A Gap Between Them And My Incisors Are Missing, What Are My Options?

Tuesday, March 12th, 2013
Q.

Hi Dr,

I have a gap between my two front teeth and I’m missing my incisors either side of these teeth. I am really quite concerned as it is knocking my confidence a bit seeing as though it just makes my mouth look really really gappy. What would be the best solution without being to invasive? I’ve read through the different procedures and stuff so I know what they involve and I just think that it would be good to know which one I would need and the cost of this.
My teeth are really strong so I would want them to be removed but It would be nice to smile normally one day.

Thank you.

Suffer with severe psoriasis and been informed that the tin in my fillings is causing a reaction. Can these be replaced?

Wednesday, January 2nd, 2013
Q.

Hi there. I have suffered with severe psoriasis for approx. 20 years now, and have tried pretty much every treatment from steroidal creams and lotions to UV chambers and as yet nothing has proven to be effective. A number of years ago a kineaseologist told me that the tin within the fillings in my teath we causing a reaction that is directly related to my condition, he advised that I take yellow dock capsules in order to combat this reaction, however has proved inaffective. I have several fillings and am now at the stage of desperation where I am thinking about getting all the fillings replaced. I was wandering if you could please advise me on the best approach in order to achieve this and get some idea as regard to cost. I realise that this would be largely dependant on number of fillings etc. I’m sure I could get my dental records forwarded to you as required. I would very much appreciate any advice you may be able to give me.

Is it really necessary for me to have gum grafting treatment?

Tuesday, December 11th, 2012
Q.

Hello Dr Bohara. I recently visited the dentist and she said since my gums are receding I would need gum grafting. She said bonding could not be done since the teeth would appear longer. Since these teeth are in the back of my mouth where noone can notice, I want to avoid the pain and healing of gum grafts. It has been years since I’ve seen a dentist since I had no insurance. I have no pain except from slight sensitivity where the gums have receded, otherwise nothing. It’s more of a cosmetic issue, I’ve had worse from shaving! Also, is a deep cleaning necessary since it’s been so long? I have tartar build-up on my lower front teeth. Thanks for the help!

My dentist offered me a ceramic brace but I feel a lingual brace would be better, what do you think?

Friday, December 7th, 2012
Q.

Hi I recently went to a consultation and i have and few very small gaps that i want to closed and i was also told that i have a slight over bite. She said that i need top and bottom braces. When asked if I could have the clear Invisalign brace she told me that they wouldn’t do a good job to correct my teeth but didn’t say why . She offered for me to have the ceramic brace, because of the fact I really don’t want them to show. But I think I would prefer the lingual braces instead, would they work just as good, and how much would they be also including the clear removable retainer ? Thank you for your time!

Would an onlay stop food becoming trapped in my back teeth?

Friday, December 7th, 2012
Q.

Hi, dr moore. I have a filling which spans the back 2 upper left molars. I have noticed that when I eat I get food trapped, I presumably underneath the filling, which is causing pain and it smells really bad.
My dentist told me that it is because my gum line has shrunk and the food is getting stuck between the gum and the filling.

She said replacing the filling would not necessarily stop the food becoming trapped. another dentist told me that instead I could have a dental onlay but it is much more expensive. Would an onlay stop the food being trap or will it always happen because of a shrunken gum line? I don’t know which option to go for and I need it fixing ASAP. Thank you for any help, kind regards.

Is an implant suitable for filling a gap in my bottom teeth?

Thursday, December 6th, 2012
Q.

I have a gap in bottom teeth, can I get an implant or what else do you suggest I do to solve this? I have severe receding gums I just want a nice smile. I’ve been to the dentists but the plaque builds up quicker than ever. No amount of brushing fixes this. The gap in my teeth started 10 years ago and now looks as if I’m missing a tooth. The other teeth next to the gap are starting to slope and look crooked. Please advice on what I can do and how much it would cost? Thank you

I have a hypermobile upper lip where can I get it corrected?

Thursday, December 6th, 2012
Q.

Hello Dr Hughes, I have a hypermobile upper lip, I am looking for a surgeon who can correct this with lip re-positioning but am really struggling to find a London based clinic, or any in the UK at all really. Would you be able to advise me to where I can go to get this correct with a reputable doctor. I would prefer to have it corrected at Harley Street but cannot see that it’s a correction they offer.

thanks for your help and any advice. Kind regards,

Some person in a insurance company based upon some xray makes an opinion to determine approve or deny. They have no ideal what i go through not being able to eat select foods sentivity. what do you recommend and where can i go to persue the matter .Even my dentist appealed to the insurance company stating that he highly recommend the implants.is there an agency to help my fight the insurance??
