What Kind of Monthly Payment Plans are Available for Cosmetic Dentistry?

Thursday, March 26th, 2015
Q.

Hello. My teeth need completely sorting out. I am 23 and have two root canals that need doing, I think they both have an abscess on the as well. Also, my mouth is filled with metal fillings and I would love to just have white fillings. I think there is a lot of work that needs doing. They look nice when I smile but they are ruined. Do you know how much it is likely to cost, would I be able to get the work done and pay back monthly?
If you could let me know any information that would be greatly appreciated.
Thank you.

Is Surgery the Only Option for my Son’s Lower Jaw Misalignment?

Thursday, March 26th, 2015
Q.

Hello Dr Hughes.
My son is 17 years old. His front two teeth are coming outwards onto his lower lip. I know we’ve left it late, we should have had braces put on him when he was younger. My worry is the orthodontist referred him to hospital and they gave us an option for him to have surgery to align his lower jaw. I’m concerned about this surgery. Can I ask you if there is another option, just so the front two teeth can be worked on through cosmetic dentistry? I await a reply. Many thanks.

Which Treatment Will Close the Gaps in my Teeth?

Tuesday, March 24th, 2015
Q.

Hello. I’m a 17 year old girl and I have about 5 or 6 gaps on my top teeth as well as on the bottom set. I wanted to know the best treatment to solve them. Some of my teeth on the top set are weirdly shaped so I don’t think braces will solve it. In terms of size I can fit my tongue between all the gaps on the top set. Please help me, I want to become a dental therapist/hygienist and I want to have the best teeth possible. Thank you.

How Can I Replace Four Missing Teeth in a Row?

Tuesday, March 24th, 2015
Q.

I have recently lost four front teeth in a row. If I decided to go for an implant, how many would I need, and is a bridge possible with implants? I originally had a bridge on two teeth, then the one next to the bridge was removed. I recently had a plate for that, but in the meantime we found I had decay in the two teeth. Apparently the bridge wasn’t very good and was leaking so now the bridge has to be removed, plus the two teeth holding bridge and the gap I already have, which makes a loss of four teeth in a row. What is the best way forward? I cannot get used to an acrylic dental plate. Please can you give me some advice? I have booked an appointment to see a specialist.

What Treatment Can I Have as an Alternative to Braces?

Tuesday, March 24th, 2015
Q.

Dear Dr Moore,

My upper front teeth are sticking out and they make me look horrible when I laugh. At a younger age I was meant to get braces placed but it didn’t work out. I’m now 21 and I don’t want to wear braces at this point, although I wouldn’t mind getting another treatment done (if any are possible). Can you please enlighten me on what other treatment is available to stop my teeth from sticking out? Thank you.

How Can My Gum Recession be Treated?

Monday, March 23rd, 2015
Q.

Hi, I have severe gum recession and have already been told I have bone loss. I had 2 years of treatment at the hospital 7 years ago and recently have noticed a deterioration. I am also losing my bite and scared of losing my teeth. I have heard of skin grafts. Can you advise and tell me if you deal with this kind of procedure? I am scared of losing my teeth. I am 52 years of age, taking vitamin C and vitamin D supplements. I am menopausal, which someone told me could lead to recession and bone loss. Please can you help? Thank you.

Can I Get a Full Set of Veneers?

Monday, March 23rd, 2015
Q.

Hi. I currently have braces and I’m very insecure about my teeth. I wanted to know about having a full set of veneers? I just wondered if that’s possible and how much it would be. I recently had my braces fitted and had 6 teeth taken out. My front teeth have started to get gappy, and the teeth don’t seem to be closing. I hate the shape and colour too. I think they’re too small. I’ve always had bad teeth since I was little and always been picked on! I’m 18 and have braces now but I just want the problem fixed and want new teeth. Thank you.

Can I Get Financial Help for Dental Implants?

Monday, March 23rd, 2015
Q.

Hi. I am hoping you can advise me about who to approach for financial help for implants. I am 50 years of age, and have in my opinion, looked after my appearance. However, although I have been a business person in the past, I have bipolar disorder, a condition which I am not in control of nor is it any fault of my own. However, after 21 years and many, many different medications and mood stabilizers I found it impossible to work any longer due to the effects of this awful condition. As if this change of life situation was not bad enough, I then noticed my teeth deteriorating, and have recently discovered it is connected to all the medications over the years as I suffer with dry mouth as a result. I have lost 2 teeth near the front since my birthday and found this more than devastating and a worsening impact on my already low moods. I have been looking for a new dentist in my area and although I’ve just registered with one, I have no faith they have the time or compassion to understand how this is making me feel. As I do not socialise much anymore this new situation is making me feel hopeless as I have not even been leaving the house at all. Is there anyone I can get advice from with regards to NHS help for implants, since in theory medication has been the main factor of the deterioration? I now feel at 50 my life is over as I cannot bear to look in the mirror and now isolate from people completely. I hope you can understand this is far more than vanity, and more about taking away any social interactions I am able to have when my mood and anxiety levels are not so low. Thank you.

What Can I Do to Stimulate Gum and Bone Growth?

Monday, March 23rd, 2015
Q.

Hi, I have had quite a bit of gum recession and bone loss. I have glucose level issues and have had hormonal treatments in the past. This is when I seem to have lost control of my gums. I lost chunks of gum during this period. I have had my teeth dealt with by a periodontist and am still having follow up appointments.

I would like to know what I can do to stimulate gum and bone growth. Are there any supplement/medication suggestions or procedures to help, considering that my sugar levels are still a bit high?

Thank you.

What is the Procedure for Teeth Whitening?

Friday, March 20th, 2015
Q.

I am interested in having my teeth whitened. I’m a non smoker and have good oral hygiene. I have also got one crown which is 5th from my front tooth, I’m under the impression that will not change in colour, is that right? What is the procedure and the success rate? Also, is it a fixed price or is the price dependent on the discolouration? What are the options for teeth whitening, is it done over a period of time or as a one off? Thank you.
