A. I would floss every day once is usually enough although morning and night would be great if you have the time!!

Q. Hello Dr, For the past couple of months (even in between Dentist visits) I have a feeling on my gums. Its a funny clicky, popping feeling as if air was getting under a layer of my gum and then requires for me to press down to pop it away. I hope I’m explaining myself right. I feel so frustrated since I do a lot of public speaking and I’m so afraid of loosing my teeth. My husband calls me paranoid, but what do you think I’m experiencing. At times the feeling last days. Sometimes its a little painful, mostly uncomfortable but mostly frustrating. One dentist ranked out gum disease. I brush three times a day and after i brush the feeling subsides for a while until I eat, chew gum the noise comes back. I even feel it behind my two front teeth’s upper gum. HELP!
A. It is very difficult to give you a diagnosis without seeing you, if you feel your dentist is not examining your problem please find a good dentist or periodontist (gum specialist) so you can have a full examination. It sounds like the gums may have lost some of their “attachment” to the teeth.

A. It might be worth checking with your dentist although they can take a while to come through even when the baby tooth has come out

Q. Hello I am a 17 year old and my front two teeth are forward and so they are not straight and alinged with the other teeth.Can an inman aligner fix this and push these front teeth back so my teeth would be perfectly straight? Also, would I have to remove teeth for this? Thanking you
A. It really depends on how your teeth look an Inman aligner may straighten them if not a fixed brace or invisalign may be other options.

Q. Hello, my dentist done a cap on my tooth a year ago, but it was the wrong size, it has recently started to smell and cause me some discomfort. When he put the cap in the dentist filed the tooth below, is this good practice? Also he didn’t remove the nerve in the remaing part of the tooth, sould he have? I have now been informed by my dentist that it needs to be replaced (me footing the bill!). I am about to book my appointment, and am concerned about the dentists experience, he said that he will cut the cap, that’s already on my tooth, into four, for removal. Does this sound right, because I am very concerned about the remaining part of tooth underneath. Thank you
A. It’s best to cut the crown into pieces before removing it as this protects the tooth underneath You would normally only reomve the nerve if the tooth causes pain or an infection is present

Q. I bite the inside of my cheeks alot, almost ever day since almost 10 or more yrs im 23 now.I don’t know what trigged this behavior but i cant stop. Every time im idle, i tend to do it.Even when im studying i do it the most also when im anxious. Im scared that it might lead to cancer since its a chronic habit. A. It can be because your teteh angle outwards or do not meet properly which can be corrected by orthodontics(tooth straightening). Sometimes wisdom teeth can cause this go to your dentist so your teeth and bite can be checked.

Q. I have 15 year old veneers on 8 teeth and my gums have receded to the extent that the old scraped down teeth is now visible behind the veneers and is ugly and extremely sensitive. Unfortunately I had one replaced by my dentist last year and it looks even worse, he had to shave half of it away so I could close my teeth, not a great job, and I am terrified of the dentist!! Would lumineers be the way forward for me, and how expensive are they? Thank you 
A. Lumineers are a type of very thin veneer more suitable for people who have never had treatment on their front teeth so I don’t know if they would be the best option for you. It sounds like you just need the veneers all replaced with good quality veneers made using an experienced dentist and technician.

Q. i want to have 2 possibly 3 dental implants these are to fill a gap where i had 2 back teeth extracted many years ago,the remainder of my teeth are excellent and i have only 1 filling in a back tooth on the other side of my mouth.can you fore see any problems arising,also can you advise me of the costs for the treatment. A. It is difficult to give you exact ideas without seeing you. If the space is in the bottom jaw then it really just depends on how much bone is available for the implants. If it is the top jaw it can be more complicated as there is a sinus(pocket of air) in the back of your mouth. This can mean you may need a bone grafting (adding) treatment first. Make sure you find a good cosmetic / implant dentist who can carry out these procedures. You may not need 3 implants and could even have 2 implants and have 3 teeth supported from them.

Q. Dear Dr. Moore, I have four crowns (in the front in the top rig)that are now showing a black line and so need replacing with Porcelain ones, but also my gum is quite dark and not pink. A. Hello the gum can’t really be changed but the posts might be taken out and replaced with White posts and porcelain crowns

Q. what are other options on correcting spaced teeth in front of mouth to make a nice smile?
A. It depends on how your teeth are spaced, the size of your teeth and how your teeth bite together. You may be able to orthodontics to close the gaps, you may need dental implants to fill larger spaces or cosmetic treatment to make your teeth wider to close the gaps.

Q. I’ve had cosmetic crowns placed on my 6 upper front teeth (eye tooth to eye tooth). There were multiple issues and I am having them redone. The issue that I’m faced with now is whether or not to have the back of the crown porcelain or metal. If I go with porcelain, I may need another root canal (they will have to remove more of my tooth to make the back thinner). If I go with the metal, I’m afraid that it will show when I laugh or yawn and that later it may look dark. What would you advise?
A. It is unusual to see the back of upper front crowns and metal would be stronger, if you are very worried about the apperance you may have to risk needing a root canal under the porcelain crown

Q. I am aged seventy two and I have had upper crowns and bridges for about twenty five years, now two of the teeth are crumbling inter palatally. This involves the left central incisor and the canine tooth. The remedy which has been suggested is to cut of my bridge between the central incisors, have the teeth removed on the upper left and then have implants. Until I get a new bridge I will need to wear dentures, the estimated cost for this is £9k. There will be two dentists involved in this; one says that I must stop smoking and the other dentist say that I do not need to. At present I am hoping that “cosmetic bonding” is an alternative. My questions are. Could “cosmetic bonding” prevent the offending teeth from additional crumbling? If implants are the only solution, will I need to stop smoking? Many thanks.
A. Bonding is a good temporary solution although if the teeth need to come out then it might not work that well. If you have implants stopping smoking will help improve the success rate.
