What Advice Can You Give to An Aspiring Dentist?

Thursday, April 23rd, 2015
Q.

I am currently in Year 12 at sixth form at Smestow Sports College. I have always had a passionate interest in dentistry and in particular, cosmetic dentistry and prosthodontics. Currently at A level I am studying biology, chemistry, maths and also French. I have started to look into universities for next year. Where did you study dentistry and is there any advice you can give me with regards to this career path, and also specialising? Thank you.

Would I Be Suitable for Dental Implants?

Wednesday, April 22nd, 2015
Q.

Hi. I am a women of 45 and I suffer from bad health. For the last five years I’ve suffered with my teeth and my gums are sore every day. I have spent a fortune at my own National Health Service dentist. My gums are really receded and I have had a few teeth out. I  keep asking my own dentist to take more out because the pain is that bad. I’ve payed for dentures but I can’t wear them because my gums are too sore. I’ve been looking into implants. I wonder if you can give me information or tell me the way forward? Thanks.

Can I Get a Veneer Free on the NHS?

Wednesday, April 22nd, 2015
Q.

I had root canal treatment carried out by my local NHS dentist on my front top
tooth. In time, this discoloured my tooth. I am vary aware of this and it does affect me personally when I come to smile. I cannot afford veneers but was informed by someone who had a veneer done for free on one of her front teeth.
Could I myself have this done free of charge from my dentist? I have not approached my dentist regarding this because I wanted as much information as possible regarding my options before I asked, as they say knowledge is power!

How Can My Uneven Teeth be Treated?

Wednesday, April 22nd, 2015
Q.

Hi. I’m 30 years old with uneven teeth, receding gums and lots of gaps. I’m getting really depressed over it, I don’t smile with my mouth open. I would love some advice to make me feel 100% better. It’s been troubling me for years and I would love to feel more confident. So please could you give me some advice or information on what to do? That would be gratefully appreciated and help me come out of myself again. It’s just mainly the fronts of my top and bottom teeth. Thank you.

The Enamel on My Teeth Is Wearing Away. What Can Be Done?

Wednesday, April 22nd, 2015
Q.

Hi, I have a partial denture on my top front teeth but the enamel on my bottom front teeth is wearing away. They don’t look nice and I’m afraid I’m going to lose them. Is there anything I can do to A) make them look better and B) stop myself from losing them? I go to my dentist every three months as I’m on medication that can harm your teeth, but she has never advised me that I can do anything about the problem.Thank you.

Can I Get a Crown on the NHS?

Tuesday, April 21st, 2015
Q.

I am over 65 years old and have to have a crown replaced because when it was originally put in 10 years ago, apparently it was put on the wrong way around by the dentist. My current dentist tells me now it will cost me £500.00 to replace this tooth. The tooth has given me aggravation for all these years but I thought that it was either because that was the fit or it would settle down, but I’ve not been able to chew properly for years. What would you advise? Do you think I can get this done on the national health service? Any advice would be helpful.

How Can I Stop My Front Teeth From Sticking Out?

Tuesday, April 21st, 2015
Q.

Hi, very quick question.  I’m 30 years old and my top front teeth stick out. How would I go about making these look ‘normal’ and how much would it cost?

I believe you can have invisible braces, although I’m not sure how long you would need them in for and if they actually are invisible. I’m quite happy having artificial front teeth if that is possible? It just gets to the point where everyday I feel down about it.

Thanks.

Is Periodontal Treatment Available on the NHS?

Tuesday, April 21st, 2015
Q.

My daughter, a type 1 diabetic, has been told at hospital she needs a periodontist to help cure her receding gums. She cannot afford private dental treatment as she is unemployed. She smokes too. Are there any periodontal practitioners that practice on the NHS? If not, where do we go from here? She is 30 and afraid of losing her teeth. Her gums have receded a lot, she is careful and cleans them with special brushes. If no NHS treatment is available, what else can she do? Anything she can buy to help at the chemist?

Would Veneers Be An Option for Overlapping Teeth?

Tuesday, April 21st, 2015
Q.

When I was 14 I got taken to an orthodontist after waiting four years to see one. After that they kept cancelling and delaying appointments for a whole year. When I eventually got to speak to the team they told me I shouldn’t get braces and I wouldn’t benefit from them, after five years of waiting. I’m now older and want straight teeth. I wouldn’t say they are that bad but I’m extremely conscious and want them fixed. My two front upper teeth overlap. My right one over laps the left one slightly. My upper jaw is also “too short” as the team at the orthodontist told me. I was wondering if it would be possible to have veneers for my two upper teeth and what the price would be, roughly?

Can I Get Veneers on the NHS Through a Private Dentist?

Monday, April 20th, 2015
Q.

My teeth are in quite a state. They are discoloured, one is chipped, and I was also advised I have too many teeth in my mouth. Stemming from a mental health reason, I have eaten sweets over the years and now I am paying the price. I don’t apply for jobs that require customer contact as I have a great fear that people are looking at my teeth, which makes me so depressed. I also never smile for the same reason. As I am a full time carer I will never have the money for the treatment. I was advised by my last dentist to get veneers. My question is can I get veneers on the NHS done through a private dentist? Thank you.
