Q. I believe I have gum disease starting in my front bottom teeth 2 have developed a small gap and the gums are receeding. How can I prevent this from spreading. How can I get my gums healthy again. I have good dental hygene but have smoked for a long time. I am stopping smoking. Please help. Thankyou for your time
A. The first thing you should do is stop smoking and visit your dentist. He should refer you to his Hygienist, or for more serious problems to a Periodontist (Gum expert). they will clean teeth thoroughly and give you advaice on the long term care of the teeth and gums
if we can be of any help please contact me at the practice mailto:enquiry@advancedentalclinic.com

Q. had accident as child, hit face UR1/2 roots did not develop correctly, short roots. only found out 2 years ago never picked up by NHS throughout my usual 6 month vists or treated. had skin cancer scare, Dr picked up dark gums, refered me to hospital , found to have perio condition. Hospital never treated UR1/2 but treated the others. said UR1/2 did not need treating as they were ok and i could have ortho as teeth were crooked and upset me,after perio was sorted i paid for brace, teeth are now straight, perio condition sorted but UR1 and 2 are now so mobile i cant take the brace off NHS wont treat me, said i dont meet their criteria. I am taking legal advice want 2 implants UR1/2 to replace my loose mobile teeth, which may have worsened due to hospital saying they were ok to have ortho. Xray showed enough Bone. i dont smoke and have regular 3 month cleaning and also follow my usual daily brush /tippee and mouthwash regime what can i do? This is ruining my life
A. Carry on with the oral hygiene routine and maybe consult an expert in implantology

Q. I had 6 cerinate veneers put on my upper teeth 2 years ago. They were fine for the first year but since then my gums have started to pull away from my teeth. I don’t have gum disease and they don’t bleed but I have started to get noticable gaps in my front teeth which are ruining the look of my veneers. My dentist used a special tool to ensure that there were no rough edges around my veneers earlier this year but I’m afraid that most of the damage has already been done and I can only assume this recession is a result of a reaction to the bonding material or something. What can I do to ensure that my gums do not recede any further? I also have some staining along the edges of my veneers (a horrible yellow colour) I am seeing my dentist next month, will he be able to get rid of this staining and is there anything I can do at home to reduce it? Is it possible to have veneers removed and not replace them and still look respectable? My dentist only made the surface of my teeth very slightly rough before placing the veneers. Would my gum line look odd? If I decide to have my veneers replaced (I don’t really want to have to do this for financial reasons plus I have only had them two years and I had hoped they would last longer) how much would it cost at your practice? and how difficult will it be to remove the old ones? Please reply I really need advice. Thank you.
A. I can not really give you complete advice without seeing and assessing you. It sounds like the gums are getting inflammed regular trips to the hygienist may reduce this. Your dentist may be able to clean the margins to improve it. If the veneers are leaking this could also be causing the problems.

Q. im 44 and ive never had a confident smile…my top teeth are overcrowded and i have fangs….i went to a private dentist last week and he said i needed to see the hygienist a few times and then see what my options are….apparently i have gum disease and the hygienist may be able to help…my teeth feel strong but the xrays dont lie and i may not be suitable for braces….are there any other options available to me if im not allowed braces…many thanks
A.
I would need to see you at the practice to help. Because there are choices but the degree of crowding and gum problems needs to be accurately assessed.

Q. Hi Don’t know if you can help me but I literally am at my very last resort I am 27 and since having a really bad experience as a child my teeth are ok to look at but I have broken teeth my gums are bright red and all lumpy, if I tilt my head down I can see down my gums. I have terrible BAD BREATH which has caused me a lot of personal problems my partner and father of my daughter has left, I stopped going out with friends I have completely shut myself off from everyone I cant speak to customers face to face at work due to the smell I am becoming very lonely and stuck. I honestly and genuinely have bad thoughts of not living I cant see a way out I have been my dentist it took me all my time getting there as I am so scared. I am desperate for some one to help me as my 6 year old daughter dosent like to give me a kiss which breaks my heart I am single but wont meet anyone with a mouth like this. My family make nasty comments about my breath and teeth. Even standing in sopping lines and someone talks to me I have to pretend I haven’t heard them and I am very friendly and feel awful for doing this. I am so worried about this as I can not afford dental plans although I work I am also a single parent I just cant do it and I don’t know what to do I am so scared at the fact I think of worse things to solve this problem can someone help me please. Many Thanks
A. hi , listen sometimes things are not as bad as they seem, firstly it sounds as if because you have neglected your gums, you have lots of plaque and calculus fermenting around the gums causing the bad smell, the gum condition and hence the bad breathe can be dealt with very easily by seeing a hygienist on maybe a few occasions and improve your oral hygiene rountine at home, the cost of this treatment dependant on where you go should be no more than a couple of hundred pounds.
as for the rest of the teeth, once the bad breath and gums are sorted out a good dentist will advise you of the options available to improve your teeth and with relevent budgets. there is also interest free credit so if you do have a monthly budget in mind lets say £100 then the dentist may be able to work to your monthly budget. if you email back with where you live i would be if i can happy to recommend a local dentist for you.

Q. Good morning, I live close to Eltham and have been looking for a dentist that may be able to help me. At the age of 6 I had a terrible experience with a dentist, when the smell from the gas mask made me panic and the dentist forced me back and then he had to be removed from gagging me by my mother. I have never enjoyed dentist since and had limited visits to them until the age of around 16… I have never been since I am now 42. I suffer little with my teeth and apart from loosing a filing 2 years ago all feels fine, but they dont look fine. They need cleaning, I would like them to be as white as they could be. Will you make me have other treatments done before you will clean them? Could you also give me a guide to the cost so I can compare services? Alot of detail I know…. sorry to bug you with all this info and requests, but i am scared of dentists, I hope you understand. Many thanks….
A. hi,
we do offer seation services for nervous patients but do not offer solely cleaning services as these are not the best treatments to start with on nervous patients

Q. Hello, i am 21 and have had problems with my teeth for the last few years, my local dentist says that my oral hygene is fine but i keep getting holes in my teeth, which has resulted in an one of them being removed and several being filled. this has cost me a fotune in dental bills and its becoming painfull sometimes. is it possible to have all of my teeth removed and implants put in and if so how much would it cost?
A. There is a reason your teeth are failing. You may have weak enamel, there may be things in your diet that are contributing to the decay that is occuring in your teeth. This needs to be sorted out and if your own dentist doesn’t know what is going on then you should go and see someone else for a second opinion. I would always advise you to hold on to your own teeth if you can. There is no point in taking out healthy teeth and you probably wouldn’t find a dentist that would remove all of your teeth. Full mouth implants would cost you in excess of £40,000.
Think very carefully about your choices and seek a second opinion
Kind regards

Q. everytime i brush my teeth they bleed, and for about for the last month i have been tasting metal in my mouth.could you tell me what this could be.
A. hi many thanks for your enquiry, this sounds like a case of gingivitis(inflammation of your gums), it is usually a sign that your gums are unhealthy and need more professional attention. my advice would be to go to your dentist and have a check up but advise him or her of your bleeding gums so a full assessment can be performed. it is not a major problem as long as its seen to quickly and can be corrected with a few visits to the hygenist. hope this is helpful.

Q. hi just a few questions about some procedures im thinking of having done. firstly i was wondering how much teeth whitening is? also i was going to have my teeth whitened before but as i am a smoker and i was told not to smoke for seven days after i was put off the idea and i was wondering if the same applys with your procedure? secondly, i have a porceline coating on my two front teeth to cover up some blemishes, if i get my teeth whitened that would need replacing i think as usually these coatings can not be whitened. andi was wondering how much that would cost. and thirdly how white should i expect my teeth to go. i would be very greatful if you could get back to me on this matter
A. Teeth whitening is a very standard procedure in my practice. We use a system called Enlighten which involves home bleaching for 2 weeks followed by approx 1 hour power bleaching. Following this we recommend once a month night time bleaching to maintain your whiteness. As you smoke we cannot guarantee how long your teeth will remain whiter but if you saw the hygienist 3 monthly you should be able to maintain a good colour. The cost for this treatment is £575 . Hygienist visits at the moment are £45 per visit.
You are quite correct as far as your porcelain veneers are concerned – they would need replacing . To match these veneers to your natural teeth I charge £1200 per veneer – visit my web site and the Cerec section to see a very similar case to you where I bleached a patients teeth and placed 2 veneers on her front teeth – the veneers were completed in 1 visit using Cad/Cam Cerec dentistry techniques.

Q. Hi, I’m 23 years old. I sucked my thumb until I was 13. My top teeth were pushed out and my bottom ones were pushed in. My bottom right 1 tooth has even turned 90 degrees so it\’s perpendicular to the others! Because of this, the dentist told me I have pockets in my gums they harbour more bacteria than normal people. 3 years ago, I started suffering from gum disease. I\ve since had 4 gum infections, 2 abscesses, 3 teeth extracted and I now have another broken tooth. My gums are wearing away too. Most of my problems are due to the fact I didn’t see a dentist from the ages of 16 and 20. I\ve started going regularly again but I’m distressed at all the work that needs doing. Is there anything that can be done for me with cosmetic dentistry? I think I need braces to start with to straighten my teeth, but then I worry that they’re beyond repair because I have missing teeth. Please help me as it has had massive effects on my confidence and self esteem as I can\’t smile or even talk properly as I’m so scared of anyone seeing my teeth.
A. The important thing is that you have a full and thorough assessment of your problems and a full and frank discussion of the the pros and cons of each treatment option. It is likely that you need some form of brace work but the initial treatment should be getting your gums back to health. This usually involves multiple visits to the hygienist and a very careful home oral hygiene regime.
Dentistry nowadays has a large array of treatment options available to day to allow you to have your our teeth for your life. Diagnosis and accurate planning is the key.
