Can the NHS pay for dental crowns needed because of medical causes?

Thursday, January 20th, 2011
Q.

i have crohns disease, and had twelve inches of my intestine removed last may (07). Since then because of the effect the disease had on my relationship with my husband (he couldnt cope) my marriage has broken up and im on a low income with two children. I was extremely ill and in severe pain and distress for two years before i was diagnosised and almost lost my life a couple of times. About six of my top front teeth decayed badly (probably because of vomiting a dozen times a day. Know I am looking at a four figure dental bill for the crowns that i am having put in. (Dod’nt get me wrong, I worship my dentist for having nice teeth at last, but as I was so long undiagnosid can the nhs foot the bill? thankyou

What dental treatment could level my pointy canine teeth?

Thursday, January 20th, 2011
Q.

Hi
I have two teeth in both the top and bottom sets that are slightly shaped like ‘fangs’. I would like the bottom of all four to be evened up with the rest of my teeth. Which kind of dentist would I need to see for this and how much is it likely to cost?
Thanks.

Would you recommend veneers or cosmetic braces to straighten my smile?

Thursday, January 20th, 2011
Q.

Dr. Solanki.
I am 19years old and my front left tooth is starting to get pushed forwards making my front row of teeth crooked due to there being no room. I have a sight over bite of about 1cm also. I have been to an orthodontic consultation and they advised me to have fitted metal braces for 18months but i take a lot of pride in my appearance and having braces would seriously damage my self image. Also my wisdom teeth have not come through yet. My teeth are not dis-coloured or mishaped in any way. What would your advise be about the Invisalign braces or veneers which i have also thought about?

Would an inman aligner or veneers be best to straighten my teeth?

Thursday, January 20th, 2011
Q.

My teeth aren’t that crooked, just a little bit mis-shapen here and there. i’m thinking of getting an inman aligner to sort out my bottom teeth and 6 veneers over the front top teeth. Are veneers a good long term option or would i be better just using a brace for the top teeth?

My teeth clenching and grinding is damaging my teeth, can you recommend a good dentist?

Thursday, January 20th, 2011
Q.

Dear Dr Solanki

I suffer from bruxism, and am currently unhappy with my current dentist due his lack of interest and patient care. I would be grateful if you could recommend a dentist in Manchester who you believe will have the experience in this field to help me. I believe the constant grinding/clenching is now having a severe affect on my my teeth, 2 have recently broken and my gums are often inflamed, as well as the internal mouth problems i am suffering with an aching jaw most of the time and frequent headaches. I would be grateful for any advise on this.

Best Regards

I had an implant crown fitted and the gum around it is receeding, what should I do?

Thursday, January 20th, 2011
Q.

Hello, I knocked my front tooth out when I was younger and wore a bridge (one sided) for years. Last year (aged 28) I decided to have an implant fitted instead. It was fitted and my dentist had to rebuild the gum above. Anyways it all went ok and then last Sept he fitted my new porcelain crown. Over the last 8 months my the gum surround my teeth EITHER SIDE OF the implant has become very red and has started to receed. This is gum above 2 good teeth and not above the implant. The gum above the implant has receeded a little too but I think that is cause they had to rebuild it so much in the first place. My concern is as to why the gum is receeding above my good teeth. My dentist cannot figure it out but says it has nothing to do with my implant yet before I had this fitted there was nothing wrong. What do you think? Do you think it could be to do with the crown itself? Please help as Im worried I might start losing some teeth! Thanks,
