Why has my bite suddenly changed?

Friday, February 5th, 2010
Q.
Hi, could you help me My bite became open around jan, for no apparent reason. My front teeth stopped meeting and my back molars started meeting, this led to clenching, then ear noise and now my head goes into a locked spasm, and my jaw and occupit muscles, and the only way to release this is to tap on my teeth with my nail whilst rotating my neck. The muscles seem to get hard and snappy, then sort of sticky. Every one has a different diagnosis. I can find no reference to this sort of release with teeth tapping anywhere. I can also release the spasms by tapping my head/scalp. I feel like a freak and it is affecting my health badly. I was advised that having the molars at the back reduced in size my bite could be re-aligned. I have amalgams so they would need to come out first, I am wary of this as it seems more risky than building up a bite, if it didn’t work or made matters worse…what then. I need to know what is going on and why my bite changed to begin with, and why this situation is really affecting my sense of wellbeing. any advice would be very appreciated,

Is ooze coming from sinus on gums normal?

Friday, February 5th, 2010
Q.
I have a dental implant which was fitted about two years ago. All was well until about a month and a half ago when I noticed that the gum around the implant was becoming increasingly sore. I saw my dentist who referred me to a dental surgeon (the surgeon who fitted the implant no longer works at the practise). I have a “sinus” on the gum which is constantly oozing in to my mouth and that part of the gum often throbs. I have been advised to scrub the sinus on the gum with cordysl gel and to take mouth washes. Is this normal? The surgeon reckons it is improving and antibiotics are not allowed.,

What damage has jaw knock done to me?

Friday, February 5th, 2010
Q.
Hello Dr. Glaister, I was wondering if you could help me with my jaw pain. Five days ago I was playing with my dog and when she was trying to get away from me, the top of her head hit right underneath my jaw. I was not knocked out or anything, but did have extreme pain. I was holding and rubbing my jaw all day, as well as opening and closing it, which did and still does cause pain. Mainly when I open my jaw is when it hurts. There is no clicking. I have placed a call to my dentist and awaiting a return call. Any advice as to what is going on with my jaw?,

Can you tell me if surgery has led to nerve damage?

Friday, February 5th, 2010
Q.
hi. i recently underwent surgery for the removal of a brain tumour (right side). When i awoke from surgery i noticed limited movement to one side of my jaw, movement from right to left. Also, my top and bottom teeth do not meet together on the right side. I cant open my mouth as wide as i use to. Eating solid food has become very difficult as my upper and lower teeth are bashing together on my left side. My main priority is ensuring i recover fully from the brain surgery. I realise that i may have undergone some nerve damage however it really feels like my jaw could have been knocked, perhaps during surgery, and i am wonderering whether it is possible to check and rectify this? I would be most grateful for your opinion. I am a 37 yr old healthy, fit male. Kind regards.,

Can I have gap filled with bridge through NHS?

Friday, January 22nd, 2010
Q.
Hi, I am 29 weeks pregnant and have had to have my upper 6th tooth removed today. I had the same on the other side removed a few years ago and this has really dented my confidence. I am currently seeing an NHS dentist for free treatment but am too shy to ask if I would qualify for a bridge at NHS prices as I can definitley not afford maximum price. Are you able to tell me if this could be a possibility please?,
