Dear Dr Caplan, I had a bridge fitted last July on the front tooth attached to my good front left tooth. I got knocked over today by youngest son and it has become slightly lose. Will it be repairable?

A. Maybe but visit your dentist asap for an Xray to check for fracture etc

A. This seems like a question a dentist would ask.  Broadly speaking you need to assess the patients general health.  Then local factors such as bone pathology, gum health, tooth health.  Finally design needs to be considered such as path of insertion, clasping, pretreatment tooth adjustment etc

I am interested in permanent fangs. I’ve heard of two options– one where you can have your teeth sanded down to a certain point, and have veneers placed over them, and they would be like that, permanent, for 15 or so years before they needed to be replaced. And then the more expensive sort– titanium rod implants where the actual bone is modified to give VERY permanent-no-changing-your-mind-later fangs. Is there any more infortmation on these? More specifically, I’d like to know about the former, because I am interested in having it done. Are these permanent to the point where they will not fall off even eating tough things such as steak? m on, and have them until the 15 years or so is up? Can you give any more infortmation about these, and if you do them? For how much, if so, and every fifteen years, will I have to pay again? And in the event that I may want to switch over from these to the titanium rod fangs– could I? Thank you.

I had 2 caps done that I wasn’t really sure about the way they did it. That is, they joined the two teeth together, rather than making them individual caps. The first go around they were individual caps but alot of food was getting stuck in between and so they join them…I’m not sure I like that idea…two caps joined together, what do you think?

A. May be a good idea if the height of the underlying teeth is poor or the teeth are mobile

A. You will need to register with an NHS dentist to see if this can be continued on the NHS

A. Yes it can!  You may have gum disease but you may just need a brace to move your teeth into a more stable position – teeth keep on growing if they are not in a stable position

Hi, I had a brace as a child to correct two prominent front teeth. Which was done successfully, but over the years they have slowly returned to how they were. My question is would it be possible for these teeth to be replaced by implants, or is the only option the lengthy process of having another brace fitted?

A. The most likely option for you would be brace work – possibley invisalign that would be more socially acceptable
