I Have an Overbite. How Might This be Corrected?

Tuesday, September 9th, 2014
Q.

Hello Dr Gambroudes, I’m wondering if you can give me some information. I have an overbite. How long do you think it would take to be corrected, and how exactly would it be corrected? Will it be painful? On the right side of my teeth, the upper teeth are overlapping the lower ones, while the lower ones are bent inwards. I only chew food on the left side and I always feel the tip of my tongue touching my upper front teeth. The front upper teeth are extremely overlapping the lower ones, in fact they are sticking out. Can this problem be easily treated? Thank you for any advice you can give!

I Am In The Process Of Applying To Dental School. Do You Have Any Tips For Finding Work Experience In The Dental Industry?

Tuesday, September 9th, 2014
Q.

Good afternoon Dr Gambroudes. I would like your help with something. I am a recent sixth form leaver and I am currently in the process of applying to dental schools to get a dentistry qualification. I was wondering if you could give me some insight into finding any work experience within the dental field to better my chances. I would not really mind about the type of experience, but I feel that any experience within the field of dentistry would be of use to me. I am finding it hard to find this work experience and would just like some advice tips from an expert such as yourself. Thanks for your help.

Which is the Cheapest Method of Straightening Teeth?

Monday, September 8th, 2014
Q.

Hello Dr Gambroudes. When I was at school I had to wear braces for a while. I’m now 22 years old and am still not happy with my teeth. I’m depressed and sometimes I can’t come into work because of my lack of confidence. I don’t earn a great amount of money and I know braces can be expensive. What is the cheapest method of straightening my teeth? I make sure to look after my teeth very well. I have a gap between my 2 front teeth. It is mainly the top tier of my mouth that I don’t like. It just needs a good straightening, although it is not disastrous. Please get back to me. Thank you kindly.

Can I Have Dentures Without a Plate?

Monday, September 8th, 2014
Q.

Hello Dr Gambroudes. I currently have upper dentures. Would it be possible to have them without the plate? I struggle to wear them with the plate as I have a bad gag reflex so it makes me retch. The teeth are a good fit and I want to know if I could have the plate removed if they will stay in place with fixative. I only have three of my own natural teeth on my upper jaw, and can’t afford implants but am desperate to wear the dentures as I am too self conscious to smile without teeth. My daughter is getting married this year and I want to be able to smile in the photos on her wedding day. Thank you in advance.

Can a Healthy Tooth be Pulled and Replaced with an Artificial One?

Friday, September 5th, 2014
Q.

Hi,
I have completely straight teeth, except for one canine tooth that took too long to come back in after my baby teeth fell out and didn’t have enough room to come down – it is raised and protruding. I can’t afford braces and am getting married next summer. I refuse to show my teeth when I smile, especially for pictures, because of it. I asked the dentist/orthodontist about extraction but they acted like it wasn’t an option because of that being an important tooth. Can’t the tooth be pulled and a false tooth be somehow permanently placed in the space where this tooth should’ve been? It doesn’t seem right that braces could be the only option for one tooth.

Can I Get Six Month Smiles Even Though I Have a Bridge?

Friday, September 5th, 2014
Q.

Hello Dr Gambroudes, I hope this question finds you well. I got a bridge placed on the upper part of my teeth on the left hand side. But I would really like to straighten the teeth on the right hand side now so that my smile is symmetrical. Would Six Month Smiles be a good treatment for me even though I have a bridge on my upper teeth? I just really want to make my teeth straight so that I can smile in my pictures without hesitation, and Six Month Smiles looks like the perfect brace. I’ve looked at other options but it is by far my favourite. Thank you, I look forward to your response and hope you can give me some good advice.

Is There a Quick, Efficient Alternative to Braces for Closing a Gap Between Teeth?

Thursday, September 4th, 2014
Q.

Hi Dr Gambroudes, I am a 29 year old male and I have a gap between my front upper teeth, which is about 3-4 mm wide. I don’t want to have to wear braces, so is there a quick, efficient solution to fill the gap that doesn’t involve orthodontics? I’d really appreciate your help with this matter. Please inform me of the best solution for my situation, I’m really hoping there’s an effective alternative to braces. I don’t have a lot of money to spend and I’d like a fast treatment so I can get this gap filled as soon as possible. Thank you for considering my question, I look forward to reading your response.

Will Treatment for My Daughter’s Malocclusion be Available on the NHS?

Thursday, September 4th, 2014
Q.

Hello Dr Gambroudes. My daughter is twelve years of age and has a mesially inclined lower right sixth tooth and her lower right fifth tooth is impacted. We have already made an appointment with an orthodontist and will be seeing him in a few months, but in the meantime, do you have any idea if these malocclusions will fall within the NHS bracket for free treatment? And how would this problem be treated, do you think she would need a brace? Any information you have would be greatly appreciated. Many thanks in advance for taking the time to read this question and offer any advice you may have.

As A Teacher I Would Need Something Other Than Braces Treatment. Would You Recommend Tooth Trimming?

Wednesday, September 3rd, 2014
Q.

Hi there Dr Gambroudes,
I have front teeth which are, in my opinion, too big for my mouth. I feel that when I smile they stand out too much.
I’ve been to several dentists. Some recommended not doing anything at all while others recommended braces. I feel that having braces at my age (30) is out of the question. I’m a teacher by profession so having braces might also present obstructions in the way I speak in class. I had braces before but it seems that the adjustments weren’t thorough.
I’ve been reading up on dental procedure where teeth are trimmed to a smaller size. Do you think that would help with my problem?
Thanks.

My Bottom Tooth Is Slightly Further Back Than The Rest Of My Teeth. Is There Anything That Can Move This Forward?

Wednesday, September 3rd, 2014
Q.

My bottom front tooth is slightly further back than the rest of my teeth and I was wondering if there is and procedure or technique that can be used to push it forward? I would rather not have braces as it’s only one tooth that needs to move and I am very happy with the rest of my teeth; although one of my top front teeth slightly overlaps the other. My top teeth really don’t bother me as much as the bottom one. I’m 21 and would like the least painful most cost effective treatment possible. Would a spring retainer be useful in this situation?
