I’ve Had Braces In For Over A Year Now And Nothing Seems To Have Changed, Is This Normal?

Monday, June 17th, 2013
Q.

Hi, please help I have braces and I have had them for just over a year. My orthodontist says I am not far off and should have around 5 months left, although I can see that there are just a few things left to do, every time my orthodontist makes a change (e.g re positions a bracket to move a tooth) if seems to affect a different tooth and so I end up with another tooth that’s moved that was fine before. Is this normal? I am so fed up. Every time I go back there’s always something else that needs adjusting. I really didn’t think the process would take so long as my teeth didn’t look so bad in the first place. I start university in September so would love to have them off by then but I can’t see it happening. Any advice would be great, thank you so much for your time. Kind regards.

There Was A Wire Attached To My Bottom Teeth After I Received Braces, What Is This?

Friday, June 14th, 2013
Q.

Hi Doctor Butt, I wondered if you could please advise me on something? I had braces when I was a teenager to straighten my teeth. When it was removed, the dentist attached a wire to the inside of my bottom teeth, which has kept them in place. I am now 27 and this wire is still there. I have moved several times since I was younger and am not currently registered with a dentist or having regular checkups. I find it quite hard to brush my bottom teeth properly and I’m worried that it is causing damage. I have such self-confidence issues and don’t know how to go about getting myself sorted! Also I’m getting married next year, and want my teeth to be nice. Is there anything you can suggest? Thank you in advance for your advice.

I Have Two Extra Canine Teeth, How Do I Go About Getting These Removed?

Friday, June 14th, 2013
Q.

Hi, I have still got baby teeth which didn’t come out as a child and as a result I have two extra canine teeth. I am aware the baby teeth are not going to last long-term but unsure of what procedure I would need to either bring the adult canines into position/ remove and replace with ? An alternative. Would brace treatment have to be involved in order to move the canines into position? I feel this would be the best solution as it is less invasive than tooth removal. Also I believe it would cost a substantial amount but have no idea what the approximate cost would be. I really don’t know how to go about receiving treatment for this. Can you please shed some light? Any help greatly appreciated, thank you for your time.

I’m Considering Veneers Because I Don’t Want My Teeth Shaving Down, How Much Should I Expect To Pay For This Treatment?

Friday, June 14th, 2013
Q.

Hello, I am considering some cosmetic dental work. When I was young I broke my 2 front teeth and so I already have 2 veneers, I don’t want my teeth ground down so I am considering lumineers. How much on average do these cost and how do I go about finding a local dentist that can perform this kind of work?
The reason I want this done is because my teeth are quite stained, I have recently had teeth whitening but have not received the desired shade of white. Are there any other treatments you can recommend?

What Choices Are Available To Me, Regarding A Cracked Tooth?

Friday, June 14th, 2013
Q.

Hi Doctor Patel. I wondered if you could help me? Unfortunately, I have cracked one of my teeth (bottom row, right at the back). The crack is across the top of the tooth but it is not causing me any pain at the moment. I know if I don’t get it seen to it could become infected or it may even die.  I have made a dentist appointment but I wanted to know what choices should be available to me? I would like to know because I know cosmetic work can be quite costly. So I need to know how much money I am likely to be paying. I also work, so it would be great to know how many appointments I’ll have to make in order to have this problem fixed. Thank you for your time.

Will My Sensitivity To Gluten Impact Upon The Success Rates Of Dental Implant Treatment?

Thursday, June 13th, 2013
Q.

Hi Doctor Moore, I am scheduled for a titanium implant. The doctor I see for gluten sensitivity strongly advises against it based on her own experience and research about after effects, e.g., infection and electrical conductivity with old metal fillings. She had the implant removed as it seriously affected her health and had a Maryland bridge put in place. The tooth I need replaced is the second right of front which I am concerned would look grey with the metal attachments. However, my three remaining front teeth are crowns as it is. What is your position on this issue? Is there a link between gluten sensitivity and dental implant success? Do you think this should be an issue I may have to take up with my own dentist? I’m not sure what to think about receiving the treatment now…Thank you for your help.

Would You Suggest The Usage Of Both The Essix And A Bonded Retainer?

Thursday, June 13th, 2013
Q.

I had the metal braces for about 3 years and a half (crowded teeth and over jet/bite problem) then I wore my Hawley’s regularly for 2 years (24/7 and even while eating!)but my teeth shifted (lower canine and front teeth) so I had to go again with braces but this time with the Invisilign system and it worked pretty well for 5 months or so then my doctor suggested I get the permanent or bonded retainers because he is fearing that my teeth may shift AGAIN but I want the Essix one to keep the new 3D position of teeth intact or unchanged .I do not what to choose. could you help? And do you suggest bonded and essix together at the same time? Is that possible?

Is It Okay To Place Braces Over A Maryland Bridge?

Thursday, June 13th, 2013
Q.

Hi, I wondered if you could help me? when i was 12 i had braces to open
up a space. This space had to be opened up in order to compensate for my
missing lateral incisors which had to be replaced with dental implants. Now i
am 18 and have been told there is not enough space in the roots to place the
actual dental implant and I have been advised to have even more orthodontic
treatment, i am just wondering if the braces can be placed over the maryland
bridge i currently have and also how long it would take to open up roughly 4mm
of space for dental implants to be placed? This work is taking forever, I just want it finished!! I feel like my whole life is on hold…Anyway, thank you very much for in advance.
