I Need My Front Teeth To Look Identical When I Receive Dental Veneers, How Can I Ensure That This Happens?

Wednesday, June 26th, 2013
Q.

Hi, I knocked my front tooth last year causing gradual discolouration. My dentist in the US has suggested bleaching from inside the tooth as well as outside as a first course of action. If this fails, then a veneer will be necessary, however it has been suggested that I have the tooth next to it done as well as they are difficult to match up. I need an expert dentist to be able to match up a front tooth. I do not want a thick, chicklet type veneer, rather something more natural. I’ve seen a lot of bad veneer jobs in my time with many of them looking extremely fake! What would you recommend?

Regards.

I Want To Replace My Dentures With A Set Of Dental Implants, Can I Get Them Through The NHS?

Wednesday, June 26th, 2013
Q.

Hello Andrew, I am 38 and unfortunately with bad living etc I have been wearing a denture on my upper set for 5 yrs. I still see myself as too young for dentures & get to the point in the day when I feel i have to take it out,but with having a partner & kids this is very difficult as I wont let them see me without it. Basically I would like to know the approx cost of an upper set of dental implants, I realise in time bone in the jaw would deteriorate & that would have to be looked at. But I just think I can’t go through the rest of my life with the irritant of my upper denture. Also what does it take to get NHS help in my situation? So I would appreciate any information you could give to me, thank you very much.

Would Veneers Reduce The Appearance Of My Overbite?

Wednesday, June 26th, 2013
Q.

Hi there, I wondered if you could help me? I have a mild overjet ( I think about 3mm) and an overbite ( only a few mm of my lower teeth show when I bite down.) I think my overbite is partly down to my front teeth being relatively long.
I do believe that I have nice teeth otherwise. They are quite straight etc and I do take good care of them.

I would like to know if I could improve this with veneers/ crowns/ overlaying veneers over my teeth. I know it wouldn’t correct it completely. I would also like to widen my smile, which I know can be helped with veneers or is there anything else you can suggest that I can maybe have a little look into? Thank you for your advice in advance.

What Does My Dentist Mean By ‘Having A Spring Fitted?’

Monday, June 24th, 2013
Q.

Dr. Andrew Moore,
My tooth has stopped growing at 3mm and my dentist said have a spring fitted? I’m quite worried about it and would like to know more about it and maybe see a picture?
Thank you. I would be so grateful if you could respond to my question as soon as possible. Just so you know my dentist has confirmed that it has stopped growing and it is an upper canine and he suggested that I have a spring of some sort fitted. I don’t actually know what he means by this but it doesn’t sound too good at all! I was wondering if you could tell me how much I am likely to pay for this kind of treatment and will it hurt? I have very sensitive teeth and gums and petrified of undergoing any pain. I hope to hear from you soon and thank you very much in advance for replying to me. Kind regards!

My Gums Have Receded Badly Due To Periodontal Disease, Is There Anything That Can Help Them Grow Back?

Monday, June 24th, 2013
Q.

Hi

I have some receding gums at the back of my mouth due to periodontitis.

Do you know of anyone using stem cells to regenerate gums as I have heard trials are taking place already to help grow back the gum area? I am desperate to receive some sort of treatment before they start looking really bad. My teeth have already begun feeling very sensitive and my gums are constantly bleeding. It’s very worrying and I’m trying to get the disease under control. I was wondering if you know of any other treatments to help with gums as I have black marks on mine which is due to probably smoking but I would like to know if they can ever go back to pink again? Anything at all? Thanks in advance.

Would A Cantilever Bridge Be A Reasonable Form Of Treatment In My Case? Or Would You Recommend Something Else?

Monday, June 24th, 2013
Q.

Dear Dr Butt, on the top left side of my mouth all the teeth after my eye tooth to the back of my mouth are missing. (they crumbled due to medication I was on for many years). Would I be able to have a cantilever bridge for those 3 -4 missing teeth? At the moment I have a dental plate but I think the clasp around my eye tooth is unsightly and I would love not to have something against my palette all the time. If you don’t think the form of treatment I have suggested is any good could you please recommend something else? Something that I could easily look into. Thank you very much for your help in advance, I’m just looking into getting it sorted as soon as possible. It’s beginning to make me feel awfully self conscious, this clasp just looks terrible. I feel like everyone is always looking at it! Thanks again, regards.

I Cannot Place Any Pressure On My Back Tooth Without Causing It Pain, Is It Infected?

Thursday, June 20th, 2013
Q.

Hi Doctor Hughes. I wondered if you could help me with something? Well, a few weeks ago I had the gap between 2 back teeth bridged to prevent food from accumulating there. I was constantly flossing to remove food .I still cannot put any pressure on back tooth without pain. I was told I have infection & have been on antibiotics for almost 20 days now. Will the pain ever go away & do you think I could still have infection or do you think that something else is going on? Thank you for any help you can offer.

I Have Been Told That I Am Unsuitable For Any Brace Treatment, Now What?

Thursday, June 20th, 2013
Q.

Hi, Dr Butt. I wondered if you could please advise me on something? I have crooked teeth but I have been told that I am unsuitable for any kind of braces or aligner as my top jaw is too narrow so there is no room for my teeth to actually straighten out. I had teeth removed as a child to make room for the rest to straighten out but this never happened and so I have been told I would need surgery. I don’t like the idea of surgery so am considering either implants or dentures as a total replacement. Will this be possible and which is best for the long term? I am in my early 30’s so want a long term solution. And something that would be cost efficient too, is there any treatment I can receive via finance options or anything of the sort that you know of? As I doubt any of the treatment I need would be available through the NHS. Thanks!
