Do you think I’d be a suitable candidate for Invisalign?

Monday, August 20th, 2012
Q.

Dear Doctor,
I have an overbite (of~8mm) and my upper front teeth are not vertical, but protruding a little bit (bucked teeth). The 8 mm overbite is mainly due to the inclination of the front teeth I think. If it is vertical I believe it would be only around 4 mm.
Do you think it would be possible for me to be a candidate for ClearPath or Invisalign braces? Currently I am not living in US. So I dont know who/how to consult now. But I have some X-Ray images and some photos. Can I send these to some e-mail address, so that I can get an early feedback from you..?
I am not looking for a perfect bite. I will be more than happy, if my teeth are straight and no gaps, I feel braces are my best option. What do you think? Thank you for your time.

I had a negative experience with the dentist many years ago and my teeth are now severly decayed, what are my options?

Monday, August 20th, 2012
Q.

Hi Dr Moore, I had a negative experience with my dentist in the 70’s involving sedation and as a result have only been to the dentists once since then (im 41 now) I have several decayed teeth and am in constant pain and can only eat soft food, Im at the stage now where i’d like all my teeth extracted and dentures fitted, I’ve never been able to afford it before but now after losing my job I have a NHS tax credit exemption certificate for the first time in my life so I really need to sort this before it finally pushes me over the edge. I’d like to know if I’d be able to get this done on the NHS or will they try to talk me out of it with partial dentures? Also will they extract all the teeth in one hit as theres no way I could leave the house with no teeth. How much will this cost as I realise i’d have to pay something towards this! Thanks for your time!

I had crown treatment months ago and my tooth is very painful, what is causing this?

Monday, August 20th, 2012
Q.

I had a crown put on about a year and half ago, straight after I was in pain and had to take anti biotics. It has never really felt right since, but then the tooth next to it needed a crown, so that was done. The first one carried on hurting over the months so I asked dentist to take the crown off. He did and tried to put another one on, but it was too painful so I asked hon to leave it off for a while. The pain is shill bad burning and aching all the time. It hurts more when I lay down at night. He did another root canal on it but it has made no difference. What should I do now please as dentist says it can only be one of the teeth needing root canal, but I am in so much agony around the gum and bit of tooth that is left and it’s hurting my jaw as well I think. Thank you.

What type of brace do you think I’ll require?

Thursday, August 16th, 2012
Q.

hello just a few things that are bugging me about my teeth, i’d like your opinion. What type of brace will i need if my right tooth slightly crosses over my left? the orthodonist asked me what colour i wanted…what does he mean by this?!! i surely dont have to have removeable ones, also my bite is fine, my bottom teeth arent too straight either and i have had the moulds for both sets of teeth before, but the cosmetic surgeon only moulded my top teeth today and i have to go back in 3 weeks, what type of braces will i have do you think? and for how long? i didn’t get chance to ask what was going to happen.

My dentist suggested that I have a plate form implant, are there any alternative options for me?

Thursday, August 16th, 2012
Q.

Hello, I have recently knocked my front tooth, which is a crown and managed to damage the root! My dentist has recommend I have the tooth removed and replaced with a plate with one tooth .Is it necessary to have to have a plate? I am horrified by this suggestion and wondered if I could have a bridge instead? I have discussed an implant, but many of my friends have had all their front teeth bridged and feel it is the better option. I really don’t fancy the surgery that goes with the plate. My teeth either side of this crown are okay,I would appreciate your recommendation before I have this tooth removed. Thank you.

I have a large gap in between my two front teeth, what can I do to fix this?

Thursday, August 16th, 2012
Q.

Hi,I have a gap in my front teeth which has become very large over the last few years and I think it’s still getting bigger even now,my dentist says there’s nothing he can do with it,I find this quite upsetting because I don’t want to smile without covering my mouth, one dentist said he could put crowns on but they would look stupid because they would be too big and thick for my mouth,it’s really getting me down now. It’s really affecting my self conscious and I would like something fast acting so I can get back to normal again. Have you any suggestions please? Thank you for your time.

One of my roots is exposed due to my recent implant placement, how can I protect it from further exposure?

Thursday, August 16th, 2012
Q.

hi, I don’t know who to talk to about this so my problem is that one of my roots of one of my teeth has been exposed partially as a result of a bit of an unfortunate incident with a dental implant placement (next to it). This happened in the upper jaw tooth number 4. How can i protect the root from further exposure? Would bonding or resin be suitable? what would be other methods to protect it? As it is a side effect of the surgery I would expect the dental surgeon to cover the cost so do not have to be very tight I would imagine It is just 3 mm long exposure but it does not look very nice and i had the implant done to improve my smile

Would veneers work to hide brown stains on teeth?

Thursday, August 16th, 2012
Q.

hello doctor moore,  i need some advice from you as i am really suffering. i have brown stains on my bottom teeth and i’ve tried everything to get them away but with no success. i have a denture but only 2 teeth at the back of my teeth are clear from decay. and ive got 2 types of arthritis so my teeth look like they are fading in colour now. can you help me smile again? how much will it cost me? i am disabled due to my arthritis and house bound. i am 40 and really don’t feel like smiling cause of my teeth. i think veneers would be good for me as they would brighten my smile and make me feel happier. i don’t think i need any teeth replacing so can you advise me on the cost? thanks.

How much should I expect to pay for a single tooth implant?

Friday, August 10th, 2012
Q.

Hello, Dr Moore. I wondered if you could tell me how much would I be expected to pay for, a single dental implant? I require tooth replacement in the upper back left of my mouth, as it currently has a huge filling in it and my dentist thinks it will need replacing pretty soon. I also think I may need braces, here is the situation: My teeth are not overly misaligned but I would like a nice smile with straight teeth. I feel tooth whitening may help my teeth also and I require a new veneer of my front left tooth which will need replaced following teeth whitening. What do you think, how much all of this treatment cost me?

I thought receiving a permanent brace was a quick and cheap procedure, so why have I been quoted so much?

Friday, August 10th, 2012
Q.

Hi, I am wanting to have my top left front and the two directly next to this front one to the left straightened. I have had a consultation with my dentist who has informed me that an Inman or Invisalign type brace won’t work and that I need to have a permanent brace fitted at nearly double the cost of the other two. I have looked at pictures on the internet and some of the images that have used both the above type braces have had teeth that look severely more out of line than mine are. I wonder if you could give me some advice. I have been quoted £1,500 for an Inman and £1,900 for a Invisalign but up to £3,000 for a permanent brace. I am quite upset as I thought this was a quick and relatively affordable procedure. I am 43 and would prefer not to have the permanent brace.
