A Gap In My Smile Appears To Be Getting Bigger. What Should I Do?

Monday, July 14th, 2014
Q.

Hello Mark. I have a gap in my front tooth and the ones beside it & the one beside my front tooth the gap keeps getting bigger on one side. This has become worse, especially the past few months. I am currently an NHS patient and I already got braces as a child so can’t get them again as I’m not entitled. I’m afraid that if I get a veneer added it will look bad as the tooth will appear bigger. But I can’t smile and I am very self conscious about my teeth. The gap on one side just looks so stupid. Do you know of any treatments that could help me? Thank you.

I’m 63 Years Old And I’m Looking For Advice. My Top Teeth Are In A Bad Condition. Is It A Waste Of Time To Seek Treatment Options At My Age?

Monday, July 14th, 2014
Q.

Hello Dr Hughes. I am 63 years of age and have wore a denture since I was only 12. I had my front three teeth taken out after they had discoloured after banging into a lamp post. In those days that’s what they did. Through wearing a denture all this time my other top teeth are in bad condition. I suppose at my age it is probably a waste of time doing any thing much, but emotionally I have had my fair share of misery regarding my teeth and I need to some expert advice. What you think would be the best option? Many thanks.

Could I Have A Regular NHS Dentist For My General Check-Ups And Go Private For Veneers?

Friday, July 11th, 2014
Q.

Hi there – I’m not currently a private or registered NHS patient. I’m looking to have my top front teeth either straightened or taken out and veneers put in. I also need a filling or two. My question is, is it best to register somewhere else as an NHS patient regarding fillings & then have the veneers done separately to save on cost? On the top front teeth I have a front one and an incisor which cross over slightly and the front tooth is shortened and chipped. Thanks.

I Have Advanced Periodontitis. What Are My Options Regarding A Bone Graft For Implants?

Friday, July 11th, 2014
Q.

Hi Mark. I have been told that I have advanced periodontitis. The dentist has said this is idiosyncratic and mentioned my body fighting it’s own bacteria? I know that many members of my father’s side of the family have had problems with their gums. He has also said I will gradually lose my teeth ( My bottom back 3rd molar is already loose) and would not be a suitable candidate for implants. I would like to know my options i.e bone graft etc. I am 37 year old ex-smoker.

Should My Dentist Give Me Temporary Crowns When My Teeth Are Burred? I Need Clarification.

Thursday, July 10th, 2014
Q.

Hi there. I have had four teeth on the front of my smile burred today to make them ready for my crowns to go on in ten days. Should my dentist have put temporary crowns on? Only he as just used this type of resin and shaped them into very small stumps and they don’t look very nice and I’m paying private. Is this what he should of done or should temporary crowns be used? He did say that he was going to put temporary crowns on but when he finished burring my teeth but I have been reading up on your website and it saying that I should of had temporary crowns fitted. Could you clarify this?

Could You Tell Me If My Quote For Damon Braces Is Accurate?

Thursday, July 10th, 2014
Q.

Hi Dr Hughes,

I have been quoted a total treatment cost of £6,500 to get Damon braces for my lower teeth and lingual braces for my upper teeth to address moderate to severe crowding on the upper and lower arch, with reduced posterior diameter on the upper arch and an over developed lower jaw.

As it’s difficult to get comparison prices I was wondering if this seems reasonable for London. The orthodontist thinks that I will need 10 -14 months.

Thanks, it would be great if you could help me with this.

I’m Looking For A Decent New Crown To Improve My Appearance. But Would A Dental Implant Be A Better Option?

Wednesday, July 9th, 2014
Q.

Hi Mark, I would like your advice. Some years ago I broke my front tooth and had a crown fitted. I also had root canal treatment on the tooth so there’s no nerve there. I had my original tooth ground down to a little peg for a new crown over the years on the NHS, which is nothing like my other teeth! Now I’m looking to pay for a decent new crown as I want to improve the appearance! My gum is black above the tooth, is there anyway to remove that? Would a dental implant be better for me? Thank you for your reply.

I’m Too Scared To Brush My Teeth In Case I Make Things Worse! Please Give Me Some Direction?

Wednesday, July 9th, 2014
Q.

Hello. I am a 20 year old student who hasn’t taken care of my teeth. I have now realised that if I don’t do something soon there will be nothing left. I haven’t seen a dentist in over 5 years and rarely brush due to the fear that I will now make things in my mouth even worse. I don’t know what it is but I can’t see a dentist. It’s got to the point where I have been in enough pain over the last few weeks that I have needed to take ibuprofen and sometimes paracetamol at the same time to get rid of the pain. I believe I have at least 14 bad teeth and at least 6 of them are really bad. I want to find help but I don’t know what to do. Please could you give me some direction on what to do next. Thanks.

My Teeth Have All But Been Destroyed With Fillings. How Much Would Four Implants Set Me Back?

Tuesday, July 8th, 2014
Q.

Hello Mark. I have had a bad history with my teeth so much so that my front teeth are completely destroyed and filled with fillings from one of my local dentists. I’m not happy about what he has done so I’m trying to find someone more professional who could help me with my bad teeth. I’m the kind of person who can’t smile in any photos because my tooth condition is so bad. I would like to know how much would it be for upper middle 4 teeth to be replaced with implants? Thank you for your reply.

Tuesday, July 8th, 2014
Q.

Hi Doctor! My question is that when I smile my upper gum shows and I always smile covering with my hand and I lose the confidence to smile with anyone, please kindly advise me on what the solution is? I’ve seen some of the gummy smile treatments but I wonder how much it would cost and if I wanted to have gummy smile treatment. Please kindly advise me what the procedure is and how can it be done? Thanks doctor.
Regards.
