My Teeth Are Misaligned And Caused Me Pain In My Back And Neck. Why Is This?

Tuesday, July 22nd, 2014
Q.

Doc, I have a big problem my front teeth
2 teeth. They have been missing for many years and just a year ago I started to use braces to fix my problem but it really causes me problems with pain on the right side face, which is unaligned to the left. Perhaps this is because my right teeth have shifted to the left and that there is not enough room. I feel my back and neck is aching and my body seems not aligned as well as it was. Has this got anything to do with the misalignment of my teeth? I lose my balance sometimes when I walk because my right knee aches. Please help me so that I would know what to do. Thank you.

I Have A Very Round Face With Wide Cheek Bones. Is This Possible To Correct With Braces Or Would I Need To Consider Surgery?

Monday, July 21st, 2014
Q.

Hello Doctor,

I am a 23 year old female. I have a very round face. Rather my face is wider near the cheek bones.
The width of my cheek bones is more than the width of my forehead and my jaw-line. As a result when I sleep on my side, my face just rests on my cheek bones causing it to hurt.

Is there a way to reduce the width of the area around my cheek bones? And at the same time make my face longer and slimmer.

Is any of these possible with braces? Or will I have to go through some sort of surgery.

How much money should I be expecting to spend for each?

Thank you for your time.

10 Years Ago I Had A Full Brace When I Was Younger But As Soon As I Had Them Removed They Started Moving. What Are My Options?

Friday, July 18th, 2014
Q.

Hi Mark,

I am looking to get my teeth fixed, I had a full brace when I was younger but as soon as I had them removed they started moving, my dentist said they would move back. Now it’s 10 years later and I still have one front tooth that sticks out and it makes me really unhappy.

My problem has always been that I haven’t had enough space for my teeth, which is what has happened.

What are my options? I would like to have straight teeth again and hopefully avoiding a full metal brace. Thank you for your time and I look forward to your reply.

I Had A Bad Experience With Needles When I Was Young And I Haven’t Been Back Since. Are There Any Other Options For Phobia Patients?

Friday, July 18th, 2014
Q.

Hello. I have not been near a dentist for over 20 years as when I was younger had a terrible experience with a certain needle in my gum. As I remember they made a right mess from and I have never forgotten this. I know I need quite a lot of work doing being 43, but I cannot bear the thought of that needle going into my gum and I’m not sure how I would react. Are there other options out there? I do not have any issues with needles elsewhere just in my mouth, your advise would be helpful. Thanks.

I Regret Not Getting Braces When I Was Younger. I’m 19 Now And I Never Smile. What Do You Feel Is The Best Thing To Do?

Thursday, July 17th, 2014
Q.

Hi Dr Hughes. I have been self-conscious about my teeth my whole life. I refused to have braces when I was younger because I didn’t want the embarrassment of people noticing them and then noticing my teeth. Now I’m 19 years old and realise it was the biggest mistake I ever made. I never smile because of how my teeth look and it makes me really unhappy on a daily basis. What do you feel the best thing I could do is? Thanks.

I Have Left My Teeth Get In A Bad State. I Have A Bad Smell Coming For My Teeth But I’m Too Embarrassed To Go. What Should I Do?

Thursday, July 17th, 2014
Q.

Hello Mark. Unfortunately I have left my two teeth (second to last upper, and second to last lower) to rot as I have a fear of dentist but now they have started to smell badly, I need to get them both pulled out but I am too embarrassed to go to a dentist. Do you know if there is anyone who specialises in rotten teeth? I have a filling in my lower tooth but it is still in place. The situation is driving me mad. I’m not in pain but the smell is causing me not to speak to anyone as I’m in fear that other people may smell it. Please advise me on what to do.

Q.

Hello Mark. I hope you can help me out. I am looking for an fast treatment to straighten my teeth.

What is the best way to straighten overcrowded lower front teeth? What is the difference in the methods available and the cost associated with each method?

I’m looking at a fast approach with results under 3 months. I am UK born but live overseas and I’ll be returning next week for 3 weeks. Is there a way to start an intense course of treatment then complete when I return. Thank you for your time.

Is It Possible For A Veneer To Be Used Over A Molar That Has Had A Crown On It Before?

Wednesday, July 16th, 2014
Q.

Hi. I have had some very nice porcelain and metal crowns for the last 20 years on three molars that had a lack of enamel when they erupted. Two of these crowns are on opposing molars, and the upper one has had to be replaced due to a small cavity. I was told a crown of the same type wouldn’t be a problem but the new crown arrived looking like a marshmallow with huge metal patches showing through the chewing surface of it. I have had two different dentists tell me that this can’t be helped and any and all replacements would come back the same way because there isn’t enough space to accommodate a porcelain and metal crown like my original, and the only option for me is a plain metal crown. The space is less than 1/16th of an inch, and my dentist wants to avoid reshaping the tooth as it was already very short. She also doesn’t want to risk damage to the root and tooth because aside from the small cavity, it is in good condition. In such a case of a lack of space, is it possible for a veneer to be used over a molar that has had a crown on it before? If so, would it affect or be affected by a porcelain and metal crown below it?

Hi Mark. Can A Cantilever Bridge Could Successfully Fit Onto Two Implants?

Tuesday, July 15th, 2014
Q.

Hi Mark. Can a cantilever bridge be fitted onto 2 implants successfully? The 2nd tooth crown I have becomes loose constantly and screws into the implant fracture. I think this is due to forces exerted on the implants which are on the top jaw next to the front teeth as there isn’t a tooth at the back and both sides of the upper jaw that rests on a tooth on the bottom jaw so my bite rests behind the teeth at the front. Do you think an extra tooth built into a cantilever bridge should correct this?

I Have A 7mm Gap Between My Two Front Teeth As I Should Have Visited My Dentist More Often. What Treatments Can Help Me?

Tuesday, July 15th, 2014
Q.

Hi there. I used to have such lovely teeth but over time I didn’t go to see the dentist as much as I should have and now my bottom two front teeth have lost a lot of the gum in the middle and it has caused them to grow apart. Now I have a 7mm gap between. As you can imagine this is very embarrassing and has affected my confidence. Also I do not work at the minute due to depression and anxiety and so my NHS dentist says they can’t do anything for me to help the teeth look better. I feel self-conscious when I talk or smile. I was wondering what treatment I would need if I saved and paid for the work I needed and what help there is, if any, to maybe help me pay for the treatment I need. I was also wondering if you think braces would be of any help to me at all? I’d appreciate any advice you could give me.

Thank you.
