I am 72 years old and would like implants rather than dentures, what is the cost?

Tuesday, November 15th, 2011
Q.

Sir
I am 72 years old fit and healthy with looks and attitude that deny my age. I have all of my teeth removed and wear dentures. Despite having three sets of new dentures in less than one year none of them fit.
Is a complete set of dental implants possible and what would be the time scale of the treatment and the approximate cost.
I am fully mobile but live in Cumbria therefore I imagine there will be considerable travelling to a centre

Regards GH

Some of my teeth have started falling out, should I get them all removed and have dentures?

Tuesday, September 6th, 2011
Q.

I am a 48 yr old woman who has MS and due to lots of steroids over the past 19 yearsI have lost some of my bone density in my gums resulting in the ‘falling out’ of teeth. I have 4 crowns at the top front of my mouth but 1 of these rods in my gum has now broken leaving me with a protruding crown. My confidence to talk has gone & I don’t smile open mouthed anymore or if I do I cover my mouth with my hands…PLEASE HELP, as my dentist says that the only solution is to remove it and put it on a plate which I have for the loss of back teeth which I have lost but the plate is not worn as I cannot eat with it in place, and it makes me lisp. I have also asked whether it is an option to have them all removed and dentures but he has said that the teeth I have left (7 top 11 bottom) are too healthy to remove.

My dentist won’t answer my mini implant questions; can you?

Wednesday, August 24th, 2011
Q.

Hello Sunita,

I was wondering if I could get mini implants to keep a partial denture in place? I’ve had my upper -UR1 & 2 plus my UL1 & 2 taken out recently and been given a plastic partial denture by my Dentist. Please don’t get me wrong, she a great dentist but she’s not very forthcoming with information when I ask her questions. I don’t know why that is but it’s why I’ve come on here to ask you instead. I need to have as much info as I can take with me on my next visit in 2wks so I can ask the right questions. I had the 4 teeth I mentioned taken out only 2wks ago and my gum is healing up very nicely she said.

I guess the questions I nned answers to are: 1. Is it possible to have mini implants done with a partial denture and what is the best type of denture used when going with mini implants?? I would be very grateful for any info you could give me on this. Price is also very important to me so if you could send me any info on the mini implants and type of partial denture used for my problem then I would be very appreciative indeed.

My 2nd question is: What are the different types of implants? I’ve heard there are a few different types used? Does it depend on how much a client is willing to spend? If that’s the case then I would also like to know how many different types of full implants there are and what each implant would cost if it’s not too much to ask.

I’m really sorry to bore you with my questions but this is something very important to me right now and I really want to get it right. I’ve complately lost all confidence in myself of late and I’m worried I won’t get it back with just a denture that moves about in my mouth. I’m not comfortable with the partial denture unless I can get those Mini Implants in to keep the denture in place longterm. It would mean a lot to me to know and understand everything I need to before going back to my dentist soon. I know I should just asl her more forcefully but it’s not my way. She tends to put me off the subject everytime I get round to asking a question. Honestly! She will not allow me to ask a whole question in her surgery. She takes over as quick as she can and rants on until I’ve forgotten what it was I wanted to say..lol Any helpful info you can send me would be gratefully received on my part. I would be eternally grateful to you..

Thankyou very much,

I have lost a tooth but do not have the finances for an implant, will a denture work just as well?

Monday, August 22nd, 2011
Q.

Hi,
A couple of days ago I had a molar removed from my bottom jaw (2nd from the back on the left) due to it being rather damaged. Having already briefly discussed options with my dentist, I am aware that a dental implant would be my best option (as the teeth on either side are perfectly healthy). However, I face the problem that I am a student so for the minute £2000+ is a little out of my price range. Having been made aware that the neighbouring teeth can move around and the tooth above may move down, I was wondering if a single denture may be sufficient as a temporary option to stop any movement occurring until financially an implant is a viable option. Also, once the molar was extracted, my dentist commented on how long and curved the roots of the tooth were. I was wondering if this may have an impact on the possibility of having an implant fitted or may pose any complications?

Can a denture be made to lessen the heavy wrinkle lines running down the sides of my mouth?

Thursday, July 28th, 2011
Q.

I have a partial bottom jaw denture with three back teeth on one side and four back teeth on the other. Would it be possible to construct a denture which helps reduce the heavy wrinkle lines running down from either side of my mouth?

I have had a lot of dental work done over the years, with all but two of my teeth capped for at least 25 years and with an upper right bridge. Two of my front capped teeth are compromised and I have to be aware of their fragility when I eat. My gums are healthy, as am I. I am 67 years of age.

After suffering from Periodontist I need a new set of teeth. Help?

Friday, June 17th, 2011
Q.

Dear Dr Hughes
I suffer from Periodontist in the most advanced form I have lost seven teeth in the top and a lot more are loose. I did receive treatment in the newcastle dental hospital and they got it under control. They say that i have to stop smoking because it will make it worse. I see my dentist every 3 months for a scale and polish but i am not happy with the treatment i am receiving. He made me two sets of teeth in the last year and i cannot wear them. My bite does not meet. So I am know going to go to a private cosmetic dentist and wonder if you know if i can get a full set of cobalt chrome dentures made.
thank you

I don’t want dentures on my top and bottom teeth, what are my options?

Tuesday, May 31st, 2011
Q.

Have dentures on top. Lower teeth are killing me, gum trouble. Broken down teeth in back. A few missing. What are my options? Do not want dentures on bottom. Can barely stand the ones on top. On the bottom I have in the front, like 4 or 5 teeth. Then on both sides, some missing, then molars on both sides are broken down and in bad shape. Lots of pain. Isn’t there a way to adhere the denture so it will stay in? Or could it be possible for me to get a partial on the left and on the right, and then do something with the few teeth I have left in front?
