Is a libial frenectomy necessary before placing an implant in the front upper jaw? Or is the frenectomy necessary just for the sake of fitting a partial denture, as in my case? As my local dentist performed frenectomy, saying that it was very much essential before placing an implant. I have lost a single tooth at the front upper region. Kindly provide me some information about the frenectomy procedure and whether it’s essential before placing an implant?

Thursday, October 24th, 2013I Have Crowns Coming Loose And One Is Being Held In Place With A Peg. What Can Be Done To Fix It?
Thursday, October 24th, 2013Hi, I have crowns on either side of my front teeth and the left one is loose and being held in by tooth peg which I think has maybe caused an infection as my gums are sensitive and bleed now and my right has ‘snapped’ off half way so I still have the top part remaining in my gum. Can I have these two teeth removed and put onto a pallet? My loose right crown has come out once before and was immediately loose after being put back in by a dentist hence the tooth peg. Thank you in advance for any help you can offer in advance.
I Have Confidence Issues As I Struggle With My Dentures. Do You Know If The NHS Will Provide Me With A Fixed Brace?
Thursday, October 17th, 2013I know you may have covered this before but I need to find out. I had a total clearance a while ago and I am now on my second set of full dentures. It is impossible for me to eat any real food. If it’s soft, sloppy and tasteless then that is about all I can manage without them falling out. I have used dental paste, and it’s still no good. It is making me ill. My diet is poor, my self esteem is suffering and I cannot face being in social circles because my teeth just wont stay still. I live alone and am becoming more and more isolated which is leading to serious depression, I have now been advised to consider medication by my doctor
is it possible to have a fixed bridge on the NHS? I understand that this will wipe out all of the issues I have mentioned.
Please advise me.
I Had A Crown Fitted A While Back And I Am Now Being Told They It Will Cause Infection And That I’ll Need Dentures. Surely Something Else Can Be Done?
Thursday, October 17th, 2013I had a new porcelain crown fitted to my front tooth 2 years ago, a couple of days ago part of it chipped off, been to dentist and have been told I have a severe infection in the root that the steel post attached to my crown and the whole thing needs to be extracted! I’m devastated because I am terrified of dentists, is this the only solution? They have said I will need a false denture. Surely there is another method? Whilst I am not vain I hate the thought of a denture with 1 front tooth just yet, I have no pain what so ever, no problems with it before apart from this tiny piece that as broken off which makes 1 of my front teeth a little rough and rubbing on my bottom lip, but they told me if I don’t have it done now I will end up with a bad abscess which will result in the same thing happening but obviously I will suffer more pain.
I Am Currently Suffering From Some Bone Loss, Does This Mean I Will Need Dentures As I Am 60 Years Of Age?
Friday, October 11th, 2013Hello Dr Shaffie, My question concerns my top jaw which is made up mainly of crowns and bridges that have been in added at different times over the last 20 years or so, and my dentist has told me there is getting to be a big gap between the crowns and the bone of my jaw under my gums. The bone is wearing away which seems to be the problem causing the gap. Does this mean I will have to have dentures or can something be done about this? I am now 60 years of age. Thanks, I hope you can help me with my request in due time.
My Husband Struggles To Eat Properly As His Dentures Don’t Stay Firm, Can He Have Implants To Solve This Problem?
Wednesday, October 2nd, 2013Hello Dr Patel, what I’d like to mention is about my husband who currently has no bottom teeth and a top denture, he had a bottom denture made but does not wear it as it does not stay firm when eating or talking. He has trouble eating a lot of foods, as he cannot chew it properly, eg: Salads, he cannot chew lettuce, most other foods he just sucks or mushes with his tongue, not very enjoyable for him. I have heard previously that you can get two screw in teeth and then a denture that will clip to these, hence no movement of bottom plate. Was wondering what cost would be involved and how long procedure would take? I really hope you can help us sort this out.
I’m About To Have Most Of My Teeth Out Before I Get Married And I Want To Know If Anything Else Can Be Done Other Than Dentures Or Implants?
Monday, September 30th, 2013I need most of my teeth removed as I can’t afford implants. Are there any other alternative options other than dentures or implants as I am getting married and my teeth are rotten and brown, I’m embarrassed to smile. I will have 6 remaining teeth, 2 at the top and 4 at the bottom. I have had mental health issues that prevented treatment earlier, I’m in a lot of pain and I need to feel confident and look good on my wedding day. I get lots of comments and funny looks at the moment and it knocks my confidence back down, I am desperate to have a bit of confidence back and to control my mental health and I feel a nice, healthy smile would help me achieve that.
I’ve Read That In America They Have Dentistry Schools That Do Free Implants, Is It The Same In The UK?
Friday, September 27th, 2013Hi Dr Andrew, I’m only 32 years old and I have had no teeth (full mouth) for nearly 9 years now and it’s affecting my children, as they are currently being teased at school. I have had numerous sets of dentures but my mouth/gums keep on getting infected. Do you know of any dentistry schools that do the free implants as I’ve been looking at the prices and with me being a single mother on benefits I can’t really afford the prices and it’s really affecting my confidence as I’m looking a lot older than my age and I’ve read that in America they do have dentistry schools that do offer free implants, Is it the same in the UK?
I Have Dental Implants And My Bottom Denture Rocks Up And Down In My Mouth. Is This Normal?
Tuesday, September 24th, 2013Hello Dr Shaffie. When you get dental implants I would like to know how well are they supposed to fit into your mouth? Do you know if they are they supposed to rock up and down inside your mouth? Or should they be lying flat down on to your gums? I have dental implants and my bottom denture rocks up and down in my mouth. I don’t think my dentist has got them right and it worries me to think I might do some permanent damage if I don’t get it fixed. I hope you can help me with this problem. Thank you in advance for any consideration.
