How long do dentures last?

Tuesday, January 4th, 2011
Q.

I currently have dentures, after many years of treatments at various dentists and continuous pain and abcesses, I gave up and opted for excision! I am happy to keep the dentures, but I was wondering how long they last, my mouth seems to still be shrinking, despite having the troublesome teeth removed 3 years ago, this is my 4th plate! many thanks

I have had a partial valplast denture fitted in the bottom roughly 2 months ago it has sunk and sits below my remaining teeth. Is there anything my dentist can do or will they have to be sent back to the lab. What will they do?

How long will it take to get used to my new bridge?

Wednesday, November 24th, 2010
Q.

Hello Doc.
Last week I had some bridge work done to replace a 2-tooth lower plate, which I’ve lived with for over 20 years, but which was becoming irritating and ill-fitting. The bridge looks fantastic, but feels very unwelcome in my mouth and I’m starting to panic that I’ve made the wrong decision by having this work done. All I can feel in my mouth is this bridge; eating has become a depressing affair, since the bridge feels like its dominating my taste buds. Will this discomfort subside? How long should I wait before deciding to have the thing removed? Please help!

A.
At least 3-6 months
