My Mother Is In Agony After Her Treatment Abroad, Where Can I Go For Help?

Friday, June 28th, 2013
Q.

Hi Mark,
I wanted to get some advice regarding some work done to my mothers teeth.

Last summer she went abroad and had 3 implants and 6 crowns. Since coming back 4 of the crowns fell out (botched up job) She is in constant agony and is constantly crying because the crowns where not done correctly, her bottom tooth now has began to crack and chip off because the top crowns are not fitted correctly (huge gaps in between)

Going back is not and option and the NHS doesn’t cover corrective surgery (they’ve been no help regarding this). Could you please advice us on where we could go from here.

Desperately need help
Thanks

How Long Will My Plastic Crown Last?

Tuesday, May 7th, 2013
Q.

My question is about using a plastic crown as a permanent solution for a cracked tooth. I have an upper left tooth (#26) that has had a root canal and recently cracked from the surface down into the root. The dentist has said that because the root is cracked they can’t put a post in, and because of that they can’t use a porcelain crown. So far he has cemented the crack, prepared the tooth, and taken imprints to make a plastic crown. He said the plastic crown should last about 5 to 10 years. Everything I’ve read only mentions plastic crowns for very short term use. Does this sound like a reasonable treatment?

My Treatment Is Failing And Still Costing Me A Lot Of Money, What Can I Do?

Tuesday, April 2nd, 2013
Q.

Hi I have had bridge made on to 1 front and tooth next to it, also as eye tooth at the other side, it is all on one if you know what I mean, I had a partial denture before and wanted a nice smile. I was then to get 2 implants, which went in and I had terrible pain. My dentist’s father died and she went to Cyprus for a week or so. At this point she had her husband X-ray my mouth several times, there was no infection and I was given antibiotics twice still had pain, eventually the pain died down and the two implants were slipping out. The implants were put in on the 18th Dec, two years ago bone graft was also done, however I went on holiday 3 Jan when I returned I called and asked if I was supposed to see them, returned to dentist she took them out, told me maybe one would have rejected but 2 she could not understand, I was left with just the bridge on 3 teeth but she did say the teeth were secure, 2 of my teeth started to go black and I went back last may as I was getting married, my own dentist said I needed root treatment had this done on the front tooth but she could not find the canal on the other one, she did first part and went on holiday and another dentist did bleaching, was not happy with it so he did it again, now my teeth move and my dentist says I need to have a full upper denture on 6 implants after me paying £460 per tooth before, I also had all my bottom teeth done they are okay, but she says I will need to pay another £7.500 for this, can she do this, I did say I was unhappy about this but that is what I have to pay. I paid £1000 toward implant at time and contract said i would only pay £292 for bone graft if implant didn’t take and had no refund on this but paid a lot of money to her, I am so upset and do not have any more money to pay for a denture, Can she do this to me?.
Kind regards.

My Jaw Is Still Swollen Following Root Canal Treatment, Is This Normal After Two Days?

Friday, March 15th, 2013
Q.

I underwent an initial root canal treatment for a lower molar on Wednesday 6th March, the dentist also discovered an abscess which he removed.

Two weeks prior to the root canal treatment he x-rayed my tooth and proceeded to fill it, he hadn’t noticed the abscess or the dead root, that sparked my curiosity somewhat and got me thinking, how easy are these to spot? I have never had an abscess before so I didn’t know what my problem was and would have expected the dentist to spot it properly. I am grateful he rectified it though. He then had to remove the new filling and start the initial root canal procedure.

However 2 days later my jaw and glands are still extremely swollen and sore, is this normal, or at least is it to be expected?

I look forward to receiving your response.

Regards.

My Orthodontic Treatment Left Me Unhappy, Can It Be Reversed?

Wednesday, March 6th, 2013
Q.

Hello,

About 2 years ago I finished orthodontic treatment to have my congenitally missing maxillary lateral incisors replaced by my canines and had two of my bottom premolars extracted to have this done. I have since been unhappy with the results and feel like I have had a change in facial shape for the worse (however I am unsure whether this is due to the braces or not). I was wondering if there is any way to undo this treatment in the future so my teeth are where they are meant to be, to replace my missing teeth with implants and whether or not this could improve the shape of my face. I was also wondering if you could estimate how much this would cost as I assume I could not get braces on the NHS again.

Thank you,

I Had A Crown On A Twisted Tooth Now It Is Infected And Causing Pain, Should I Have Had Root Canal Treatment Beforehand?

Monday, March 4th, 2013
Q.

Hi,

My front tooth was very twisted so had some by drilling some of the tooth away and a crown, which looks much better. This was done privately as it was for cosmetic reasons. About 18months later I have had pain and infections but doesnt show up on X-rays. I have been suffering with this for about a year as the dentist just kept saying clean better as there is a pocket that food can get into. I clean thoroughly and regularly and it doesnt help and am still suffering. I was given antibiotics eventually but it didnt work at alll. I have continual pain and much discomfort when I speak. The dentist has recommended specialist root canal treatment but he said due to the very thin root he cannot do it himself. I am normaly an NHS patient so this is becoming very expensive for me. This makes me question should I have been given root canal treatment before the crown?

I would very much appreciate your help.  Thank you.

Has My Dentist Filed My Tooth Too Much?

Thursday, January 24th, 2013
Q.

Hello I recently chipped my front tooth On thurs. I went to a dentist on Friday. My chipped tooth was bonded with a white filling and then filed. I have noticed that my front teeth are now not the same length as they were previously. The newly filled tooth is a shorter length is this normal? Or Did the dentist file the tooth too much?
Now I’m conscious of my two front teeth not being level. Is there anything I can do? Can white filing be added to make the teeth the
same length ?

I take pride in my teeth and was always proud of my teeth when I smile, now because of this I feel I cannot have a confident smile as before. I would be extememly grateful if you could answer my questions and let me know what you recommend I should do. Should I go back to the dentist who was not my usual dentist but I went because I could not get an earlier appointmentwith my main dentist.

Do you think that I have gum bacteria?

Monday, January 21st, 2013
Q.

Six years ago I lost a good front tooth when a dentist accidentally split it when drilling through a veneer to replace it. I then had to have a bridge to close the gap, using my other front tooth as one of the anchors. At the time
This tooth had a small side filling and a sound root canal which had been done some 15 years earlier. The bridge cost me a lot of money to get a natural look and get the speech right. Now I am currently experiencing discomfort from this anchor tooth when biting or pushing on the top side of the bridged tooth near the gum line. There has been a
Some inflammation of the gum around this tooth for some time which I have been trying to control recently with a water pic. The dentist xrayed the tooth and there is nothing showing, there is no sign of abscess and the root canal seems sound. However the tooth itself cannot be seen for decay due to the metal plate on the back of the bridge. The dentist has given me metronidazole to see if it may be gum bacteria, but the prognosis beyond this is disturbing as he told me of other options available. He thinks I could have another root canal through the back of the bridge or remove the bridge to see the state of the tooth – either way there is a big risk of loosing this anchor tooth due to the trauma. If this were to happen how could I cosmetically reinstate the front teeth and would there be a natural looking temporary solution be available in the meantime that not only looks natural but does affect speech. Do you think the antibiotic may work to resolve such a issue?.

I’m Not Happy With My Treatment, What Should I Do?

Friday, January 18th, 2013
Q.

Please give me some advise. I had to finally have some crowns replaced and decided to have cosmetic work also. It was very important to me to keep a natural looking smile I wanted to keep my two front teeth longer and wanted at least the same white as before. my teeth were all cemented in on top and the 2 front teeth were too short. also, I thought the color looked grey – I did not like the way they looked. After complaining he redid the front 2 teeth – said they made a mistake and they were too short. I decided to go ahead and do the 6 veneers in the front bottom . I am ok with them as they seem brighter and prettier than the crowns on top. yesterday I finally had the nerve to call and talk to the dentist. He said he would get back with me once his computers were back up. I still have not heard from him. I am making myself sick and keep looking in the mirror – they just seem dull and almost grey. I have paid over 40,000 – please tell me what to do.
