My Dentist Fitted A Crown Instead Of A Veneer, What Should I Say To Them?

Wednesday, July 17th, 2013
Q.

For the past 15 years my front teeth have had vaneers. Every 5-6 years one of them breaks and I go through the process of getting a new one. They never break at the same time and I have had no problems over this time with colour matching or shape.

Recently my front left vaneer broke and I went to my local dentist (different dentist) and she polished my tooth up ready for a new vaneer. She let me choose the colour which perfectly matched my other vaneer. I got a temp for the time being and was told to return in 2 weeks.

On the fitting day I’m sat in the dental chair and are told I’m getting a crown fitted. Not really knowing the difference she slotted it in my mouth, showing me the mirror for 3 seconds and asking if is all is well. At this point I’m like okay looks good. 15 min later I’m in the waiting room wondering why it feels so big (on the back with my tongue) Feels nothing like the back of my other vaneer. It’s huge at the back.

Okay so jump in the car and look in the mirror. WOW. It’s slightly off colour. Can’t believe it. Drive home and here I am looking in the mirror every 5 mins trying to convince myself it’s the same colour. My wife starts asking why my front teeth are different colours now, then tries to convince me it’s difficult to notice.

I’m eagerly awaiting Monday so I can call and discuss this further, but I’m wondering what kind of rights I have here to ask it be sorted.

Can You Get Lumineers Done On Teeth Which Have Been Filled?

Tuesday, June 4th, 2013
Q.

Hello there Dr Solanki. I have a slight problem that I hope you can help me with. I’m looking for some advice as to whether or not it is possible to have lumineers on filled teeth? Basically, there wasn’t a massive hole so the filling isn’t too large and I’ve been speaking to a friend who has had extensive dental work done in the past, however they seem unsure so wanted an expert opinion. Also, after doing a little independent reading around the topic it seems that staining could be an issue? I’m a little confused so would appreciate it if you could clarify. Thank you.

My Crown Keeps Falling Out, Would The Fact I Have Had Chemotherapy Have Any Bearing On This?

Thursday, May 30th, 2013
Q.

hi im in the uk, my front crown has been falling out pretty regular, went to my dentist who is going to fix the crown next to the tooth that’s on a bridge. i’d like to know whether or not this will help the crown to stop falling out? to give you a bit of context about me, i’m 55 years old, in 2006 i was diagnosed with hodgkins lymphoma. following this i had chemo and in 2006 i was cured. i’d also like to know whether or not the chemo could have any effect on my teeth? i do go for regular check ups so it’s not like i’m a stranger to the dentist. do you think that it will be a new bridge with the tooth joined on to it? look forward to hearing your response. thank you.

Would An Implant Work For My Broken Tooth?

Friday, May 24th, 2013
Q.

I have a broken off tooth, which i am told cannot be crowned because it is below the gum line, what is available treatment and cost bearing in mind the tooth next to it is crowned. If an implant is the answer will it affect the tooth next to it.Is there any other solution and can i have the rest of the teeth whitened. I live near Bath so what is the closest practice to have the treatment. Could i have the other teeth veneered and how much does it cost?

Should My Dentist Provide Me With A New Crown?

Wednesday, May 8th, 2013
Q.

My dentist has just completed an implant on a lower molar. When he cemented the PFM crown in it sat too high with the point of the tooth above hitting the middle of the crown. He ground a channel in new crown so my teeth fit together well. However this has exposed a small amount of the metal in the crown. It looks like a small metal filling. I am not too bothered about the look as it is not that visible and it otherwise fits well, but is this an ok practice and is more of the porcelain likely to chip away? He has offered to take the crown out and add a bit more enamel. Should I ask for a new crown? He is our regular family dentist and I do not want to cause fiction.

Can I book An Appointment With You?

Wednesday, May 8th, 2013
Q.

Hi there, just a general question for you. I was wondering do you do free consultations to see what work I need done with my teeth? I have a tooth missing and I would like to know if I can have a crown fitted, also I am interested in veneers for my front teeth. My teeth have been a slight concern for a while now so now I have the money I’d like to think about my options with regards to getting my teeth looking healthy and fresh. Also how long does it take to get an appointment with yourselves? I would like an appointment as soon as possible to be honest. I look forward to your reply. Thank you.

How Long Will My Plastic Crown Last?

Tuesday, May 7th, 2013
Q.

My question is about using a plastic crown as a permanent solution for a cracked tooth. I have an upper left tooth (#26) that has had a root canal and recently cracked from the surface down into the root. The dentist has said that because the root is cracked they can’t put a post in, and because of that they can’t use a porcelain crown. So far he has cemented the crack, prepared the tooth, and taken imprints to make a plastic crown. He said the plastic crown should last about 5 to 10 years. Everything I’ve read only mentions plastic crowns for very short term use. Does this sound like a reasonable treatment?

I Am Unhappy With My New Crown, Can It Be Fixed?

Monday, April 29th, 2013
Q.

I had a crown on one of my front teeth 15 days back. My tooth had got discolored & it was recommended that I get a crown. I went to my usual family doc who had done my braces earlier. But I’m very unhappy with the crown. she ground my tooth n then gave me a first crown which was a complete disaster. I asked her to replace it at any cost. She did that and it was better than the previous one but I’m not completely happy. it is protruding a bit near the fit at gums & i feel it is a little bigger & bit rounder than my adjacent tooth. The crown has a metal inside. she said that my gums would grow over the joints near the crown & it would look normal but i feel very awkward to smile 🙁 please suggest what to do. I have spoken to her about this & she says this is how one tooth crown would look & everybody who gets one tooth front cap will look the same. Please help. Thanks in advance!

Am I In Trouble After My Root Canal Procedure?

Friday, April 12th, 2013
Q.

I have just had a root-canal treatment done on my lower right molar. My dentist has made my molar tooth smooth but the upper and lower teeth do not touch each other now hence creating a little pressure on my premolar tooth (as they now easily touch each other). What should I do? And is capping necessary after root-canal? If I don’t will my filling break away?I am a non-vegetarian and I have a tooth missing near my treated tooth. This is causing me quite a bit of stress and confusion actually so I would appreciate any advice that you feel may be helpful.
