Is my dentist right in recommending that I have my tooth removed?

Dear Dr Hughes,
I have had a root canal filling and a crown put on one of my teeth (upper side) about 10 years ago. It had given me no trouble till about 2 months ago when I bit on some hard nuts and I got a dental abscess. I had severe pain and swelling of the face. With antibiotics it cleared up and I have had no problems since then, but my dentitst says I should remove it. I am hesitant as it is not giving me any trouble and I don’t intend to bite anything that hard ever again. Also I have never had a tooth removed before. Please advise if it needs to be removed. thanks,

What recommendations can you give to re-close the gap between my front teeth?

I crown my four front teeth to close gap between my front teeth, but now after 10 years, the crown starts giving problems it has receded and the gap has reappeared, what is the best thing to do: do composite bonding, redo crowning, make veneer, use invisible banding. My crowns are metal infused, it looks faky, got dark line emerging on the edge. if i were to redo the crown how many days it will take? what are the procedures?

I am unhappy with my current crowns and am looking to replace them, how much do veneers cost?

I am looking to have front front teeth crowned/veneered and also the rest whitened. I currently have to crowns in the front which im not really happy with. They seem to be slightly slopping and also one is more promenant than the other. To the left of the front crown i have a tooth thats be repaied due to a chip but again im really not happy with the appearance. I would like a cost roughly how much treatment will cost? Also if i could access some pictures of work you have carried out and also the process of procedures if i was to go ahead.

can you help
my boyfriend needs dental work done. he had two false teeth placed due to a fall as a teenager and now they are bad he needs two replaced but also the rest of the top set he would like either veneers to match or crowns. i need to know the difference between veneers and crowns and difference in cost also.
he may need some white fillings and the rest of the teeth whitened to match. alot of work, any idea of what this would cost and could you break it all down pricewise for me please? that would be great thank you for your time doctor moore

How noticeable do you think a non-porcelain crown will be?

Hello Mark, I have just had a consultation with my dentist for porcelain crowns and found the price to be way out of my reach. However he gave me an alternative cheaper price for non porcelain ones but said i will have a black line at the top of these crowns between the crown and the gum. My crown has darkened, should I have it replaced or have a veneer put over it?

I have a crown that the tooth under the crown has darkened. This is a front tooth and in this case the gums are receding somewhat. Can a crown have a venere placed on it vice having the crown replaced when it appears to have darkened? There has been no pain resulting from this and as yet no discomfort at all. The crown is spmething over 40 years old. If the crown must be replaced can you please describe the procedure and possible complications?

Do I really need to have my tooth removed when it doesn’t actually hurt?

My crown has fallen out and after visiting a dentist I was told that my root filling is not all the way to the end of the root.
The root filling and crown were fited about 20 years ago. I have had no pain from the tooth. The dentist tried to drill out the old root filling but told me it was not possible to do so as the ‘cement’ is too hard to drill through.
She doesnt want to put a new crown on top. (Actually I also still have the old crown which she also doesnt want to stick back in). Instead she has recomended that I have a bridge, but I am not keen on damaging healthy teeth on either side.
I am totally confused and considering a second opinion when I came accross this website.
Is it so bad to have a root filling not to the end. I have not ever had any pain from this tooth since the crown was fitted all those years ago.
What can you recomend?

Will my gold crown affect my chance of achieving a ‘Hollywood Smile?’

Hi Mark

If i am honest I dont actually NEED veneers, my teeth are very healthy and of a good standard, However I am in the performance industry and there is always room for perfection.
However, I do have a solid white gold cap on my left canine which I wish to have replaced to… At the time i was told that this had been cemented on and will be permanent as my tooth had been filed down in order to complete this.
Tell me, will this effect me from getting the hollywood smile I am looking for and if not, what processes do I need to go through to obtain the perfect look?

My crowned tooth is causing me a lot of pain, what could this be?

I was woken up on friday night, with really sharp throbbing pains in my tooth, molar, which was crowned about 6 months ago, I have been taking painkillers for 2 days but is no good, pain is still there and is strong, do you think i have an infection in my crown?what could this be? I have not had any root treatment for this tooth. I have had another crown on a different tooth, but that has not given me any problems, I havent made an dentist appointment yet should I make one? Will using a home whitening kit when wearing veneers loosen them?

Dear Mr Patel, I have six porcelein veneers fitted four on top centre and two lower centre. When whitening with home kit could this potentially loosen my porcelein veneers. The reason I ask it may be purely co-incidental but recently I have had two of them fall out within a month of each other they were fitted in 2000. I am considering having crowns fitted the next time one of my veneers breaks or falls out would it be a more benefical way in the long term I was advised if I keep getting my veneers replaced my original tooth with shorten and I may eventually end up with not having enough tooth for the veneer to stick onto.
