My bottom teeth are crowding again even though i wear a retainer, what can I do?

Friday, June 24th, 2011
Q.

Hi, I was just wondering if you could help me.
About 5 years ago I had braces for both my top and bottom teeth. After having my brace removed, I had to wear a retainer until my dentist told me otherwise. However over the last 2 years, on the bottom the first 6 teeth have begun to twist and move slightly back. It’s beginning to get really noticeable, and I’m just worried that it’s going to get worse as time goes on.
I’m 18 and in full time education, and was just wondering how much it would cost or if it would cost anything to get them sorted?

Thank you.

I think I should have gone with Lingual braces instead of Invisalign, can I change treatments?

Friday, June 17th, 2011
Q.

I am a 25 yr. old male with spacing of my upper front teeth as well as an open bite developed from a tongue thrust condition. This also causes my chin to appear recessed somewhat. I have been in Invisalign treatment for about 6 months. I already had mild lip and chin strain due to the open bite. Upon wearing the aligners I felt a lot more discomfort and strain with the added thickness of the aligners over my teeth. I explained this to my orthodontist who suggested I could just wear one aligner at a time, 12hrs. a day. I have been doing this but I feel like the compensation the muscles around my mouth had to make for the aligners changed the shape and appearance of my chin and lower lip muscles causing some “rippling.” I now wish I had gone with Lingual braces which go behind the teeth, but they are not provided by this orthodontist. Is it possible to seek another orthodontist providing lingual braces and just get them done on the top teeth and continue invisalign on the bottom? I have also been looking into having a chin advancement (genioplasty) done to correct the recessed chin and hopefully relieve some of the lip strain. But could you give me any information on types of surgery that can be done to correct the open bite itself? As I have been told braces alone cannot correct the open bite. Thanks so much for your help.

My face seems to be getting thinner since I started orthodontic work, could it be the braces?

Friday, June 17th, 2011
Q.

Hello, I am 30yr old male. I have had braces for 1.5 yrs now on lower teeth with 1 extraction-second molar on my left. This was to correct and straighten my teeth. I am noticing a thinning of my face – making it look narrow. Everyone keeps saying ‘you have lost weight’ but I have not. My ortho says it cannot be braces, as only jaw surgery can change my jawline. I am very worried. Is he right? What can I do? He is moving my back teeth to cover the gap from the extraction. I would rather have an implant to make my face look fuller, (more teeth, wider smile)but he says that it will make no difference. I am very concerened. Thank you

My teeth has shifted slightly since wearing a brace, what can be done?

Friday, June 17th, 2011
Q.

hi, i was wondering that i had braces wihen i was younger but four years later i notice that they have shifted slightly, would i need to get braces again. Also my front two teeth have been extremely sensitive since i had braces and ive never been able to bite straight on, its always been at an angle. Thirdly i have this discolouration on my front tooth and i was wondering what is the best way to get rid of that mark without altering the actual tooth’s structure itself. thanks.

I don’t know which brace treatment is the best for me, what do you recommend?

Friday, June 17th, 2011
Q.

I am told I qualify for all types of braces. I am most interested in Lingual braces – realistly whats the absolute cheapest I could get these for?

I have about 2.5K max…! Should I settle for a standard brace?

Also are they as effective as other braces. I work in sales so would prefer a clear brace. So confused as if you look on the internet it quotes so many different prices.

Please help.

I am 27 and am unsure if braces or veneers are best of my condition, what do you suggest?

Monday, June 13th, 2011
Q.

Hello Dr Patel.

I am hoping that you can advise me with regard to my enquiry. I am 27 years of age and never had braces fitted as a child.

During childhood when second set/adult teeth were coming through one of my incisors erupted through roof of mouth behind my canine and was putting pressure on it and pushing it forward or outwards.

Due to this I had that tooth extracted and was advised by my dentist to have a fixed brace fitted to straighten my teeth.

Now, many years on I have realised that I should have had it done but because I didn’t I have misaligned teeth now where my 2 front incisors are offset and are actually not in the centre of my mouth but a whole tooth over to the left where the removed incisor should have been. I now have 5 teeth that are visible on top jaw instead of an even number of six (canine and incisors).

This has caused me great misery as I have not smiled with my teeth in a photo for over 10 years as they look out of line and are odd. Recently I went to visit an Orthodontist and was told that with a fixed appliance or brace I could have the 2 incisors moved to the centre of my mouth to line up with nose but in order to achieve this, the other remaining incisor that would have been paired with the extracted incisor would have to be removed also.

This essentially would cause a gap between my incisor and canine so that my 2 front teeth can be pulled into new position via brace and give me symmetry which is what I want.

My concern is that with a tooth missing (approx 8mm) is it really possible for a brace to shift that gap closed and pull my teeth to centre?

Surely due to the fact that I am 27 years of age and all adult teeth have come through and jaw bone has stopped growing that the bone is set solid and it is impossible to close a gap where a tooth has been removed?

I am getting mixed opinion and being told that a brace simply cannot achieve this and I would have to have either an implant to disguise the gap or have veneers fitted to mask the fact that my 2 front incisors are offset.

Also, I have a deep bite and was told even before tooth extraction I would have to be much patient and have a fixed metal brace on lower teeth to correct the bite and lift up teeth so that end result will be satisfactory.

What are my options and will braces fix the removed tooth and shift the teeth to create a balanced smile?

Thank you.

I would like smaller front teeth, what are the best treatments?

Monday, June 6th, 2011
Q.

Hello, now my two teeth at the front are quite large and i would like them a bit smaller and pushed back so they are in line with the rest. What would be the best way to sort this problem out? Braces or cosmetic surgery because i want them to be done straight away as wearing braces does take a lot of time. I have a cosmetic dental surgery near where i live but have not yet been to them.
I’m a student and i was wondering how much it would cost for cosmetic dental surgery? thank you for your time
