I Used To Have Braces And My Teeth Need Straightening Again, What Can I Do?

Friday, August 2nd, 2013
Q.

Hello Dr Kalpesh Bohara I was wondering if you could help me with an issue I have had for some time, I had fixed braces put in when I 13 years old I am know 23 I got these from an NHS surgery, I wore a retainer for a year then, a fixed brace for a year. My first four top teeth have returned to the way they were before I had the fixed brace. This frustrated me no end as I now feel like all of the treatment before was a complete waste of time. My confidence has gone right down, what would be the best thing for me to do? I’m on exception at the moment due to having a baby so wouldn’t be able to afford the huge costs. Any assistance that you could provide would be helpful. Thank you.

My Curved Bite Is Causing Problems, Can You Recommend A Treatment?

Thursday, July 25th, 2013
Q.

I currently have a fixed appliance on my lingual upper incisors that I have had for at least 10 years. I also have a curved root on one of my central incisors, that seems to be pulling the rest of my incisors up wards, giving my a curved bite, and therefore I am unable to bite properly. I am looking into treatment as I have previously been unsuccessful at my dentist, and am unhappy with not having the full use of my teeth. I am unsure of what treatment I would require, could you please advise me on treatment, and if possible, where would be suitable to go for treatment in Leeds.

Regards.

I’m 17, I Cannot Get Free Braces, What Should I Do About My Gappy Teeth?

Thursday, July 25th, 2013
Q.

I’m am a 17 year old boy who lives in England. I’m a full time student. i was offered braces a fee years ago but i had never wanted braces but looking back I wish I did, my top teeth are very gappy but my bottoms ones are fine (maybe a bit crowded) but I am happy with them. My top teeth are not bent, twisted and they are all in good condition but just gapped all the way along. What i would like to know is what alternatives do I have without the look of braces. I’ve heard about Invisalign but I think it will be to expensive for me, my price range will be in the region of under £3,000. Also is there any chance of getting any treatment with the NHS? If braces were still free on the NHS I may consider them.

My Incisor Stops Me Having Braces, How Can I Resolve This Without A Crown?

Thursday, July 11th, 2013
Q.

Hi Dr Hughes. so i have a little bit protruding teeth on my two upper teeth. Back then, i visited my dentist to have more info about braces. unfortunately, i can’t have them as my upper lateral incisor doesn’t have the same size. the one on the left side is slightly smaller than the right side. he said that i can have braces if i agree to get the smaller tooth crown.so, i really have to make sure that, can i have my braces on without having any crowns or bonding etc? because for some reason, don’t ask me why, i really disagree with the idea of having any crowns or bonding on my tooth.

Would Braces Work To Close My Gap And Eliminate My Overlap?

Thursday, July 11th, 2013
Q.

Would you close a gap due to extraction with an implant or braces. My front teeth slightly overlap, and as I have lost a tooth 6th from the front, I thought braces could pull the teeth back and close the gap, with bringing the 8th tooth forward slightly. I thought this could kill two birds with one stone, as I would lose the overlapping at the front, and also fill the gap. I spoke to my dentist and he won’t advise me on the best way, and I need a professional to tell me the best way forward please. The tooth was extracted quite a few years ago, so I would need a bone graft if I were to have an implant, My dentist has said that if I were to have braces, my centre line would be off, and he would either need to extract a tooth on the other side, or shave the front teeth. He also said he couldn’t be sure but he thinks I will get a black triangle between my front teeth once the overlapping is corrected. I really don’t know which is the best option. If I go with the implant, I will still have the crossed over teeth but the gap will be filled. If I go with the braces, both problems could be sorted, but there is much more interference with healthy teeth, ie getting teeth shaved and maybe another tooth extraction.

What would you think would be the best way forward?

Is There A Surgical Alternative To Braces?

Friday, June 21st, 2013
Q.

Hi,

Im 16 years old and i still have two of my milk teeth (canines), I have gaps in all of my top teeth apart from the front two. My two adult canines have now come through my gum and are slightly covering the top of my two milk teeth canines because the adult teeth have no where else to go. My dentist has said i need a brace however it is really knocking my confidence that all of my friends have had their brace on and off and have perfect teeth and i am very aware my teeth are still not very nice. The tooth to the right of my two front teeth is pushed back from when it came down whilst a baby tooth was still there. I was wondering if there was a quick way, maybe surgery? In which i could have my milk teeth removed and adult teeth pulled down. Also a quicker way of bringing the pushed back tooth forwards?

Should I My Tooth Be Realigned To The Central Line Of My Face?

Friday, June 21st, 2013
Q.

I am 16 years old student residing in Saudi Arabia.
It has been 1yr and 3 months
since i got my braces. I had extraction of 3 teeth ,1 incisor in the upper left jaw and the 2 incisors in the lower jaw.

After filling the gaps, the dentist now says that my front tooth is not in alignment with the central line of my face. He suggests shifting the teeth again. As far as i know, it was in alignment before i got my braces.

My question is, is it necessary that i should get my tooth aligned to the central line of my face??
Will it make any difference if i don’t get it done??

Another thing that keeps bugging me is whether after getting out my braces my right will be straightened for the rest of my life because i have heard many people saying that the teeth returns to its original position after getting off the braces.

Would You Suggest The Usage Of Both The Essix And A Bonded Retainer?

Thursday, June 13th, 2013
Q.

I had the metal braces for about 3 years and a half (crowded teeth and over jet/bite problem) then I wore my Hawley’s regularly for 2 years (24/7 and even while eating!)but my teeth shifted (lower canine and front teeth) so I had to go again with braces but this time with the Invisilign system and it worked pretty well for 5 months or so then my doctor suggested I get the permanent or bonded retainers because he is fearing that my teeth may shift AGAIN but I want the Essix one to keep the new 3D position of teeth intact or unchanged .I do not what to choose. could you help? And do you suggest bonded and essix together at the same time? Is that possible?

The Bracket On My Brace Has Come Away Should I Be Really Worried?

Tuesday, June 11th, 2013
Q.

I have just had a metal brace fitted & less than 2 hours after fitting, I felt a small twang & on looking noticed that the bracket fixed to the one tooth that I have a porcelain veneer on (top tooth next to the main front tooth) but, had come away.

At the initial consultation, the orthodontist did say that he wasn’t sure whether the bracket would stick to the veneer or that the veneer might be damaged. I told him that the veneer was in fact 15 years old & I wouldn’t be too upset if I had to have it replaced. My orthodontist is closed on a Tuesday (tomorrow) & I don’t want to worry about this – can you advise?
