Do I Need A Bigger Bridge?

Tuesday, April 2nd, 2013
Q.

I have a bridge with the front tooth missing therefore other front tooth and tooth at side of missing one being the bridge. my bridge has become loose and I have recently discovered that I have an infection in the other front tooth,i have been told i need a bigger bridge of 6 teeth which would include the 2 molars, my question is, is it necessary to grind down that amount of good teeth? The dentist said it would be because of the weight of the teeth. i have also been quoted 3,200 is this a reasonable price or should I look for another opinion?

My Teeth Are In Bad Shape As I Have Bruxism, What Private Treatments Would Be Best?

Thursday, March 28th, 2013
Q.

Good evening,

I struggle with bruxism, and have severely worn down my teeth over the years, resulting in cracks, numerous fillings and lots of discolouration. This wasn’t helped by the phobia I had for around fifteen years (but which is now considerably reduced) meaning I didn’t go to a dentist unless I was in pain.

I still grind my teeth in my sleep, although I wear a rubber mouthguard at night as instructed by my last dentist.

I hide my teeth when I smile, because they are so worn, cracked and mis-shapen. I’ve always had NHS dentists, who have said there’s no point in capping or adding veneers to my teeth as I’ll break them so quickly. I’m inclined to agree!

Is there a treatment I could consider that might actually work? I’m more than happy to go private now. I’m 32 and would like to be able to smile openly for the first time.

Kind regards.

I Have A Rare Condition, Can I Get Free NHS Treatment?

Thursday, March 28th, 2013
Q.

I was just wondering if there was a treatment i could get done on the NHS for my teeth. I have a rare condition where i have no second teeth i am now 32 years old and as you can imaging my first set of teeth are in bad shape now,i can not afford to pay the fees it would cost to get them all fixed. With having this condition i was wondering if i would be eligible for free treatment. I have many teeth missing and the ones left are causing me a lot of pain and also i’m very conscious of the way it makes me look i find it very hard to eat certain foods as again it causes me pain i would be very grateful for any information or advice you could give me on this matter.

Do You Think I Would Be Able To Get A Bridge With The Condition Of My Teeth?

Tuesday, March 26th, 2013
Q.

Hi Dr. Wondering if you could help me, this is probably fairly standard for you so shouldn’t be too hard a query. Basically, I have a tooth that I believe now needs extracting because I have lost the crown that was on it and I have just left it over quite a period of time. I not been to the dentist because, to be honesty with you I am scared of the pain and haven’t really been wanting to go through it.. One of the teeth next to it is in great condition and the other has filling, some of which has also fallen away. So now you have a little context, I was wanting to know, can I have a bridge do you think? I don’t want to have false teeth and certainly can’t afford a cosmetic crown. How much ( if I am able to have a bridge) will it cost?

Can You Help Me Plan The Best Course Of Treatment For My Weakened, Decayed Teeth?

Tuesday, March 26th, 2013
Q.

Dear Dr.,

I have several issues, my front teeth are severely decayed and broken this has just added to the other issue. I had a car accident while in the Royal Navy and have been a wheelchair user for 10+ years which means I struggle to carry and pick things up. I without really thinking about it carry stuff in my teeth or drag at a sleeve etc. with my teeth really wearing them down. Essential I’ve been left with a mouth that looks like a cemetery with lots of broken tombstone. Due to the injuries I received I’ve been on major painkillers for sometime that usually means I struggle to get any relief from normal drugs a dentist uses. My teeth have got to the point where I’m surprised when they don’t hurt.

I’ve saved some money which I don’t want to flush away with the wrong treatment.

Please help

My Personal Problems Meant That I Neglected My Teeth, How Do I Get Them Fixed?

Monday, March 25th, 2013
Q.

Hello doctor, I need some advice as I have been in a severely depressed state of mind and have just been referred back to my GP from the community mental health team. This was an ongoing situation over the last three years +
During this time and before, My teeth were neglected due to my state of mind. Just on the top row I only have 3 good / whole teeth and the rest are either missing or badly broken. My back molars top and bottom were extracted in hospital when I was 7 or 8.
To this day I dont know why.
I am too ashamed to go to a dentist and am wondering – should I go to hospital or see my own GP first. I am just starting to pick up the pieces in life and now have my heart set on being a new person and being able to smile.
I live in Kingston upon Thames, London. I am 42 and allergic to aspirin and penicillin – Just for reference.
I am eligible for NHS as I am on DLA & ESA and currently not working.
I have suffered from PERICARDITIS for about 6 years now as it is a re-occurring symptom. I am currently on simvastatins for cholestoral. Other medication includes amitryptaline, isosorbide mononitrate, co-dydramol, sertraline, zopiclone (taken rarely). Just to give an insight of my medical history. Hope to hear from you shortly.

Yours Gratefully.

Receding Gums And Bad Teeth, Which Implants Should I Go For?

Friday, March 22nd, 2013
Q.

Hi Dr, I am 62 years old and to be blunt my upper teeth have seen better days! I have receding gums and now since having researched on the internet about the ‘all on 4’ dental implants I am now becoming a bit confused as to which is the better option for me, ‘all on 4’, or the 6 implants treatment option that I have seen. This is because some say that 6 implants will support the arch better and last longer. Also I understand that the 6 implants comes with a ceramic arch with zirconia better than acrylic or do you know of any better materials in use currently for constructing the arch. If it is any help to your accuracy in answering my questions I would like to make it clear that I am looking for something that will last for a very long time and look very good.
