Hello Andrew, I hope you can help. After completion of a dental bridge treatment, the wire which was connected to the false tooth went inside the gum after a few days. I started feeling pain occasionally. The dentist who performed the bridge said that this is normal but prescribed antibiotics and painkillers if pain persists and also advised to use fluoride toothpaste. Does the metal wire ever go inside the gum after few days? Have you heard of this before? Please advise me on my future course of action. Thank you.

I Had An Abscess Under A Crown And I Had The Tooth Removed. Ever Since I’ve Had A Throbbing Sensation. Any Idea What This Could Be?
Friday, June 20th, 2014I had a abscess under a crown in April. I had to have the tooth out and a denture put in straight away. Ever since I’ve had pain throbbing at some point through the day and night, I went back 3 times and was given antibiotics but I’m still having trouble. I went and had a temporary bridge fitted because I was going on holiday. I had aching and throbbing all week while I was away. I come back and was booked in for the permanent bridge to be fitted, but I told my dentist I was still having pain and they said it was coming from a cracked tooth behind which I have to have filled next month. He then went a head and fitted the bridge. I still wake up with this throbbing and aching, I’m taking ibuprofen every 5 to 6 hours which kills the pain, but this isn’t right. Any ideas what could be causing this?
I Have An Abscess But Can’t See My Dentist. Should I Take The Antibiotics He Gave Me?
Monday, April 7th, 2014Hi Andrew. I went to the dentist yesterday because I thought the tooth whitening I was doing had caused me some irritation. The dentist found a small abscess in the front tooth and dressed it. This was a surprise to me as it was not so painful. He gave me antibiotics but said to try not to take them. Should I take them as it is now very painful and is around the nose area again and worse than before. It is worrying me but the dentist is closed over the weekend. I hope you can advise me. Thank you.
I Have Yellow Teeth From Childhood Antibiotics. Would Whitening Work To Get Rid Of This?
Wednesday, February 19th, 2014Hi Mark, I have always had yellow teeth from the moment they come through the gums, some dentist said it was down to a certain anti- biotic. If I tried to have them whitened, would it work or would I be wasting my money? Apart from the yellow problem my teeth don’t look too bad, so what would you recommend? It’s been an embarrassment to me all my life. When I was a child my teacher used to ask me if I’d cleaned my teeth, which gave me a complex at such a young age. I am 44 now and I still don’t smile with my mouth open. I look forward to any advice you can give. Thank you.
My Teeth Have Become Yellow From Antibiotic Staining. What Would Be The Best Form Of Whitening Treatment For This?
Friday, January 31st, 2014 Hi Andrew. I’m 47 and have always had natural cream toned teeth. But, I’m now feeling quite embarrassed whenever I smile as they are now rather yellow. My dentist and my son’s orthodontist technician think that I may have antibiotic staining. (I did have various antibiotics in my teens for acne treatment) and that bleaching by the orthodontist may not have any effect or leave me with lines of discolouration.
Would laser whitening be more effective? Thank you.
I Am Worried By The Pain Caused After My Root Canal Treatment. Is The Diagnosis I Have Received, Correct?
Friday, January 24th, 2014Hello Mark. I had a root canal treatment over a series of 3 appointments, as I was told that the tooth was inflamed & difficult to numb the area properly. I was in a lot of pain after with the temporary filling, which felt very bulky. I explained this & my dentist put the permanent filling in & gave me antibiotics in case of infection. The pain has settled but is still there intermittently and I was hooked on Nurofen for an entire week after. The pain now feels as if in it’s in my jaw & face & comes back after eating. I am a grinder & so it maybe this? I got a 2nd opinion last week & this dentist took X-rays & checked my jaw movement – he says the tooth is fine & likely to be jaw muscle damage & that I need a soft bite guard or maybe try physio & get referred by my original dentist. When the pain comes, it’s pretty bad – does this sound like an accurate diagnosis? It sounds feasible from what I have read, but am still worried & taking pain killers so much can’t be good long term. Thanks for your help.
I Had A Root Canal Done 10 Weeks Ago And I’ve Had To Go Back So Many Times. I Don’t Know What To Do?
Wednesday, December 18th, 2013I hope you can help me. I had root canal done on my front tooth 10 weeks ago now, I’ve been back so many times, the tooth has been filled so many times the bottom of my tooth is see through. The other day I was given a mouthwash by the filling and it is looking sore and 24 hours later I’m still in pain. I have had three lots of antibiotics before they started filing the tooth and so much filing has been done that my mouth does not feel the same. The tooth hurts so much, I don’t know what to do any more, some times my ears hurt. When the root canal was having it proper filling put it, I was told I would not need to be numbed up as it was all dead, when something was put into the hole I nearly hit the roof, I never felt so much pain which lasted for a couple of minutes, Is this right what they are doing?
I’ve Had Severe Pain In My Wisdom Tooth For Three Days But My Dentist’s Isn’t Open. What Can I Do?
Monday, December 2nd, 2013I don’t know what to do Dr Hughes. I have had a severe pain in my wisdom tooth for 3 days now, it is making it very hard to get to sleep and its now keeping me awake at night. It’s more painful when trying to eat or drink anything and when eating my tooth keeps breaking away. I have tried painkillers and there not touching the pain. I noticed today that my tooth is growing through the gum but is breaking once it comes through the gum, Half of the tooth is missing and the other half still remains in the gum. I’m in agony and it’s giving me pain all the way down the right side of my face and teeth. What can I do as my dentist isn’t open?
I Had An Infection After A Temporary Filling And Now I’m Told The Only Option Is A Denture. What Would You Say I Should Do?
Tuesday, November 12th, 2013I had a broken tooth that wasn’t painful or any trouble until my dentist decided to give it temporary filling whilst doing a couple of other fillings that were necessary, following this I have been in agony as it got infected. I went back and they gave me antibiotics which I have almost finished the course but am still in the same amount of pain. they have said they will just need to take it out and the only option of filling the gap they have given is dentures which is traumatising for me to even think about as I’m only 23 they have said no to bridges because both the teeth either side to the broken one are healthy. I never asked them to do anything to that tooth and now I’m in so much pain and upset with the tooth. they haven’t been very nice as they caused this and now are trying to force dentures upon me and keep saying I have no other options. I am absolutely distraught over this and I desperately want some help?
