Can you tell me the difference between standard veneers and the new ultra-thin veneers?

Q.
Do thin veneers like lumineers fitted to teeth with no shaving make the teeth look thick ? Are they always preferable to standard porcelain veneers which involve shaving off more of the tooth ? Please can you advise the pros and cons of standard veneers versus the new thin veneers currently available. For long lasting, natural looking stain resistant teeth, which of the market leaders such as lumineers, mac or da Vinci do you recommend please ?
A.
These are great questions. Sometimes ultra-thin or ‘no preparation’ veneers can make the teeth look too big and bulky. this is why they are not suitable in every case and why doing a trial or prototype of the potential result is very important. In some cases preparation is required to get the best results – it really depends on your starting situation and the results you’re hoping to achieve. The other thing you have to remember is that the ‘types’ of veneers you have mentioned are actually the names of the 3 companies that produce the veneers. All porcelain veneers are made by hand so the skill of the individual dental technician or ceramist is the crucial factor , not the choice of company or laboratory. Saying that both MAC and DaVinci are generally very good but in my own practice we make the choice of lab or technician based on the individual patient and their individual needs.

The best thing to do is to go and have a consultation with some one experienced to find out what’s best for you

Kind regards
