Can veneers be used to cover exposed root caused by gum recession?

Q.
Hello Dr Andrew Moore. I am sending across a question over for your attention. I hope you have the time to answer it for me: My original teeth are already quite large and long, and I have redeeing gums and exposed roots in nearly all the upper front teeth. I also have quite a gummy smile so it shows every time I smile. My question is: Once receeding gums cause has been stopped and treated, can veneers be placed to cover also the exposed root? If so, and to avoid the veneered teeth looking too long, can the original tooth be shortened prior to veneer? Thanks and I hope you have a nice day!
A.
Yes that can be done provided they will still be the correct length for smiling and talking. I recommend diagnostic provisional veneers before the final ones are made so that you have a trial run first as once the veneers are bonded they cannot be easily replaced.

Hi, I’m currently living in Edmonton Canada but i’m moving back to the UK in 2012. I am interested in getting porcelain veneers to change my smile. At the moment I think I would like veneers on my upper teeth only and would need them on my central incisors, lateral incisors and canines (6-8 teeth). Could you give me an estimate of how much that would cost? If possible I would like lumineers.

I am considering getting 4/6 porcelain veneers, however two of the teeth I’d be considering getting done are crowns. Can you let me know if I could still proceed with veneers. I look forward to hearing from you.

Im 18. I am interested in porcelain veneers. I think iwill need around 6-7. The reason for my veneers is because of the gap between my 2 front teeth. It is really bothering me and i am very unhappy.

I have problems with my bite and hope you could help me. Iused to feel pain in the teeth, and the first dentist I visited said it wasdue to a cracked upper first molar so he ground down the molar( For about0.5mm~1mm) in order to avoid the contact between the molar and the oppositetooth when I bite. However, another dentist later discovered that the painwas caused by a decayed wisdom tooth on the back. After the wisdom tooth was extracted, I no longer feel any pain. The problem is the molar which should not have been ground down was shortened and caused unbalanced bite. I began to feel very uncomfortable on the back of the eye so that my eyesightwas also affected. The zygomatic arch on one side protruded and is now moreprominent than the other side. Now I really don’t know what to do about it. I would like to know if it is still possible to restore my molar back toits orginal postion and correct the occlusion? Thank you very much

regarding my biting problem caused by my first molar on the top right which have been ground down little bit. Since the cracked molar has been ground down in China as i have said, there is still a bit gap between my molar on theright side when I close my teeth, which makes me uncomfortable and the overclosure of the right side make my jaw always lean to right side to close the gap. In addition, if i am chewing some cotton wool or other food to fillthe gap, which prevent my jaw lean to the right side, the prominent cheekbone of the right side would become smooth very obviously. I am planning to restore that little bit to the original level. Will it be possible to do some simply fillings to restore the minor bit which have been ground down on the first molar? Would you please suggest me the method that would apply to restore the minor bit of the firstmolar? How long will it take to adjust the molar after the restoration andHow much fees would be involved? I am looking forward your reply and the quotation of restoring the molar if possible. King Regards

Hi. I am planning on getting porcelain veeners for my four, crooked front teeth. However, I am a choir group singer and we do daily exercises to strenghten the vocal chords. The exercise we do most often is called “the toungetril” which give you a vibrating sensation in the teeth area. My questionis; will the vibration in the teeth caused by the tounge tril exercise, weaken the porcelain veeners after some period? I hear porcelain veeners are quite fragile and run the risk of falling off completely if one does not take care of them accordingly?

I’m currently undergoing a treatment plan to restore my upper and lower teeth with a mixture of veneers, crowns and implant supported crowns and bridge. There have been a number of ‘glitches’ over the last three and a half years which are now causing my confidence to wobble a wee bit. I truly want to have complete trust and confidence in my dentist but worry more and morethat maybe things are not as they should be. I have absolutely no wish to offend, or be disloyal in any way to my dentist, but recognise that this treatment is something which affects the rest of my life. I’m now wondering ifobtaining a second opinion to seek reassurance (hopefully) that I’m worrying needlessly would be advisable?Would such a consultation be possible? Ifso, how much would it cost? If this is not appropriate,or recommended practice, I will fully understand. Thank you.

I had veneers done around approx. 19 years ago on the NHS I’m now 38 years old and it looks like one has dropped down slightly Im not sure if it cause my gums are receding or not When I read up on these veneers it says they only last for 1 – 2 years, why then have mine latest for so long? – Also need to know if I can just have one done at a time and I remember from 19 years again I didn’t have to pay for these on the NHS but I Guess I have to now, would they ever just fall off?

They have lasted very well, they normally need replacing after 10-12 years. I guess you’ll need to pay for them but perhaps it might be able to replace just one veneer?
