Can the NHS Help Me With Funding for Braces?

Q.
Hi. I am 24 years old and my top teeth are a mess. They stick out and when I was younger I used to get bullied because of it. It’s made my life hell, I have tried speaking to my dentist they have referred me to different orthodontists and they want £1,900. There is no way can I afford that sort of money for braces, I’m a full time mum on income support, does the NHS not help because I am older? I am so self conscious I never take pictures with my kids because I do not smile, it really gets me down and I can’t get to communicate with other mums at my son’s nursery because I feel people stare at me.
A.
Hi, thank you for getting it touch. I’m sorry but braces aren’t available on the NHS as it is a cosmetic treatment. Many practices do now offer payment plans though. Regards, Andrew.
